The Greatest Mecha-Chapter 68: Eyes Beyond The Clouds
Chapter 68: Eyes Beyond The Clouds
Sól ended the transmission and sighed, she sat cross-legged on her bed which was a fluffy white cloud. Her room was massive enough and white in colour, the curtains were silver in colour. There was an indoor library of a small proportion, gadgets and amenities which she had procured over the years. The room was well kept with nothing out of place, there were two massive gaming pods at a corner of the room, a small worktable by the small indoor library, the worktable was made of a substance called polished wood. Its origins from things called trees.
Sól had heard that they were organic which was strange to her, she had only seen trees in the books she read but the concept of life growing from one tiny seed was ludicrous. In that era metal was the most profound element known and used but the Seraphyne used wood to show that they had dominance. They were also one of the only known classes of people who used real books to study, in an era where technology and data could be found online the idea of knowledge in physical form had long since been extinguished.
Only distinguished people of great prospect to humanity still used books, some in secret. What made these books so interesting was the information they held within which at most times was priceless, these books though seeming ordinary were coated in a firewall that prevented them from being scanned by any comm device or scanner to be uploaded or stored in any digital format. This ensured that the knowledge in these books could only exist in its physical form and in the mind of whoever had read them. In a world where there were hackers and pirates the holy blood implemented such a method to prevent the spread or leak of information.
Sól brushed back her fluffy white hair and massaged her temples lightly, she did nothing for a few seconds before sighing and saying, "You did it again Sól, why did you have to piss me off Damian?" She spoke to herself which was a habit of hers since she did not have anyone to talk to besides her pet cat who was sleeping heavily in her lap. She smiled and caressed its white angelic fur, it purred at her and rolled around. "I did it again, Sylphie."
Sól was annoyed by Damian’s request, she hated how he would at times ask dumb requests of someone of her IQ, it was suffering at times to even listen to them. But she had to remind herself the reason why she became close to him, she wanted to understand how people of the outside world portrayed life, being who she was she never got to experience the true world. She doubted any Seraphyne had stepped out of their comfort zone in over a hundred years unless it was for a diplomatic reason which was very rare, she did not want to live and die in her much cherished and flamboyant home. She wanted to experience the outside world through the eyes of another.
And from what she saw in Damian, aside from his comically fun self, he showed that the world was very dumb and unreasonable. He got excited about vague and sometimes useless things. While the holy bloods’ form of amusement sometimes came from artistic geniuses which was a bore to her. She would rather listen to her dumb friend than look at a wall of ink and lines for hours.
But after years of getting closer to Damian the fear in his eyes never once vanished only but reduced to an extent. But maybe she thought people from the outside world were dumb and idiotic or maybe people of her class were too smart and advanced to comprehend their type of humour, to compare their standards of life. She grew up at what was called the pinnacle of human existence and Damian grew up in the world, the real world. Of course their views would be different, and this caused a gap between them. A gap she desperately tried to fix by trying to bring herself down to his level as best as she could even if it was more tasking on her mental prowess. It was hell.
"What do you think Sylphie, did I overdo it this time?" She asked the sleeping cat. Why was she so interested in the world in the first place?
The answer was simple, she did not want to die just by living in one part of the world her whole life. She could not call Damian to apologise since she was clearly in the right and she had never once apologised for anything in her life, her pride would not allow it.
So she did what she always did whenever she was stressed, she walked over to her gaming pod to have a quick game. The pod she walked up to was one of two and was her favourite, it was a waste, a huge black ball that hovered over the ground, around it were purple vines and leaves coiled around like a living forest. As she approached it the aesthetics came to life and the vines started to unwrap around the orb and reach out to her. They wrapped around her and pulled her closer to the pod itself, the pod sensed her presence causing it to crack open like an egg being scrambled. When she was inside, a cool wind blew over her body refreshing her and killing any and all germs or bacteria on her.
Within the pod was a dark chair covered in fur, the insides lit up with purple vines displayed around the interior of the mech and they were animated and moving. She sat down comfortably, her mind still unsettled. She was still disturbed as to why Damian would ask such a request from her.
"Why ask me to test it, he surely has friends to help him with it. I might have been too harsh on him but still he crossed a line." She continued to argue with herself.
It took a moment for her to recall her error. "No, I was the one who was wrong to speak out of turn. I said I would not look down on others, I asked him to relate to me like a friend and not as a holy blood yet I turned back into the depravity my brothers have fallen to."
She stared at the screen that fizzled in and out of existence before her face for a while before coming to a decision. "Damian was trying to be friendly, I might as well check out the mech. See if there’s a reason behind it."
She logged into the game and her account titled, "THE WHITE CAT". She had only recently just begun her own mech training but she was more intrigued in mechs as a subject than in the use of combat, her family did not really care about piloting mechs since they were not soldiers so she had to train in secret. They saw mech piloting as a fool’s profession, but she had fallen in love with what she did.
She searched up the Disciple, his account seemed bland, no introduction about himself or his work, no profile picture just his works speaking for him. He did not even have a gaming history, Sól hoped she would not regret this as she looked at his works, she directed her eyes to his newest work and tapped on it.
The projection of the knight mech appeared before her, she did not seem impressed. She looked at the specifications and sighed again,
Mech name - The Percival
Weight Class - Light Medium
Variant Name - Opis Magnum Reborn
Original Design - Opis Magnum V.3.7
Mech Designer - The Disciple
Original Manufacturer - Vax Industries
Sól decided to look at the mech’s role in battle, its specifications said something about it being a rusher or defender or perhaps a heavy hitter but she was not impressed. She was sure there could be better mechs in the market but she at least wanted to try it out even if it was against her will and give Damian feedback if she felt like it.
She purchased the mech for a price of 450000 credits, she had seen the specifications now it was time for a test run. Her mind got projected into a virtual battle room where she could see the two other mechs she owned which were of platinum standard. She walked up to the Percival and looked at it, for a strange reason it gave off a very faint aura similar to that of her other mechs, she hopped into the mech’s back, its armour swallowing her whole.
Her body shook slightly which was a new experience for her and a voice sounded.
"Link-up system at 100%," the mech’s AI voice spoke.
"At least an AI interface was added this time," she said softly.
She proceeded to do a test run of the mech in the training room for a few minutes, the strange feeling she felt still lingered but she ruled it out as a bug. Not wanting to wait much she decided to hop into a match, since her rank in the game was elite she could enter a more diverse match, the squad battle. "Let’s see what this mech can really do."
