Chapter 308: Family Dinner

What were the odds that the emperor would give a deep bow to someone? Of course, it wasn’t that it was impossible in the empire, but it was rare.

And once they did, that could only mean one thing: he respected the person, and it represented his sincere feelings.

The Duke was extremely satisfied at this, and as he shifted his gaze at his son, there was now a faint moistness in the corner of his eyes.

"Dad..." Arren let go of Spade’s hand for a second and embraced his father. "I’m so happy... really!" He whispered, filled with his deep emotions, not concealing the happiness in his voice.

The Duke nodded and shut his eyes while hugging his son tightly.

After the slightly funny but also emotional reveal, Arren was obviously very hyper, and he had a lot of energy in his body that he wanted to release.

Arren turned to Spade, his fiancee; he almost let out a giggle at that thought.

"Let’s have a small dinner at least."

He didn’t care much, even if it wasn’t grand, but at least celebrating it within their family was still necessary.

Of course, Spade agreed readily. He called for someone in the kitchen and told them to prepare for their dinner.

While that was being prepared, the two bid goodbye to the Duke for a bit to visit someone who also deserved to know this news personally from them.

"Congratulations, son... and to you too, Arren." Mother Empress Liviera’s smile obviously reached his gentle eyes and even squeezed Arren’s hand.

They were now inside the empress’ room, and Liviera didn’t have the gauze on his head anymore, and his condition seemed much better than before. Arren had also visited him after they returned, and he had to admit that he was more comfortable around the empress nowadays.

Then Liviera joked, "Now, you can call me Royal Mother."

Arren was slightly surprised; his cheeks heated up, and he tried to call the empress that. And yet he was too embarrassed for some unknown reason! And so he looked pitifully at Spade, calling for his help.

Spade shook his head while smiling, and he put his arm around Arren’s shoulder.

"Royal Mother, Arren can call you that when he’s ready."

Liviera looked at them and laughed; it could also be noticed that his expression was lighter.

"I’m not pressuring you, don’t worry, Arren. But... Start practicing now, okay?"

On the contrary, Arren was pressured instead. He exhaled inwardly and decided to practice that seriously from now on.

They didn’t continue talking about that matter but also about the small dinner, of which Liviera was also a part. He agreed without hesitation, and the two left him as well to prepare themselves.

As it was only a small dinner at most, which only included their parents at most. This was still a significant affair for all of them, as it could be considered their first family meeting after the official engagement.

The preparation wasn’t long, and there wasn’t any need for excessive details either, as both parties were not bothered by it.

The dining room they used was the simplest one, which they often used when dining with the empress before. The table was prepared to appear as a solemn dinner, but there wasn’t any candlelight either.

Arren sat next to Spade, while opposite them were their parents.

At first, Arren noticed that his father was slightly uncomfortable since, even if he already ate with Spade and the empress before, they were in formal settings, and now that they were all on equal footing, he was the one who wasn’t used to it the most.

He then reached out and patted his father’s hand, showing him that it was fine. Gradually, thanks to Spade and Liviera casually treating him like a family would, the Duke also eased his tense nervousness and was adapting to it.

The dinner was only centered on Arren and Spade, and they didn’t talk about anything else. They all seemed to forget all about the problems and set them aside for the time being.

The stars were the soon-to-be-married mates, Arren and Spade. The dinner went smoothly, and the harmony between the two sides was better than expected. They end the small dinner with a snap of the photo of them.

Spade had not released any statements regarding the engagement, even though a lot of press were now clamoring outside of the palace, but they were forced to behave themselves so that even being hungry for a scoop, no one dared sneak in. Otherwise, if they were all suspected of being spies, wasn’t that not only bad luck but a tragedy for them?

The palace was now enclosed, and the forces around it only showed one thing: they must not be provoked!

After all they went through and are still going through, they wanted a small part of it to be private. Arren had also silently agreed with his decision. While they decided to stop thinking about the impending chaos and celebrate their free time, they didn’t want to fully close their minds to it either.

Still, as the engagement was known to everyone because of that loud bell, they couldn’t not release a statement about it.

The engagement was already trending on the internet, with people also talking about it.

The photo of them at the dinner were posted on the official social media accounts of the royal family, and that already served as confirmation without any further statements. novelbuddy.cσ๓

Other than that photo, the palace was silent, and there weren’t any calls for press conferences as well. So, it didn’t really make the media or the citizens satisfied and instead made them hungry for gossip, but they couldn’t do anything at all.

The positive thing about this news was that it completely overshadowed the growing unrest among the public from all the recent news about the war and the terrorist organization.

The marriage of any celebrity, much less of that the emperor would no doubt be the trending topic for everyone. It was even more of a happy occasion for the empire as the emperor was finally having his empress after his years on the throne.

The negative and sad news was alleviated slightly, and for a period of time, the people were excited to gossip amongst themselves.
