The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 299: Father and Son (1)
Chapter 299: Father and Son (1)
Arren was more emotional this time around after he returned with memories of his past life. Then, he had never seen his father again before he died in his alpha’s arms, and if he had not escaped this time around, the same thing would only be repeated.
He didn’t dare imagine how his father would react, and Arren was too afraid to ask Spade about what happened to his father when he left the world much earlier than him.
For all the things that he wasn’t ready to hear, his father’s situation was one of them. The reason was because he knew he might not take it easily.
And so, while he was in his father’s arms, Arren embraced his father so tight as though he were back again in the cradle and needed his dad to coax him to sleep.
"I’m sorry," Arren sniffed. His tear gland had been overused in the past few days, but what could he do about it?
He needed to cry to vent the deepest emotions inside of him that had been buried for years.
His father’s hand patted him on the back and shook his head.
"Why are you apologizing?" His voice was also hoarse, and even without looking at him, Arren knew that his father was also crying like he was.
"I’ve made you worried again. I’m sorry. I can never keep my promise."
"No." His father kissed Arren’s head and comforted his son. "As long as you’re back and safe."
The two only hugged themselves and savored the emotional reunion. After they calmed down, they were only facing each other on the bed, although the two had not let go of their hands.
Arren observed his father and worriedly asked about his condition.
The Duke smiled much more genuinely; his eyes still revealed that he cried.
"I’m much better now; don’t worry, son." He reassured Arren, which made Arren feel sad again that his father was always assuring him, even if he was already so worried.
After looking intently at his father, Arren finally decided to also tell his father his secret. Other than Spade, his father was the one he trusted with his whole heart, and he thought that his father also deserved to know the truth and his secret.
"Dad, can you listen to me? I have something I want to tell you."
His tone carried a seriousness that was even rare for the Duke to hear from his son. The Duke instinctively nodded and patted his son’s hand to tell him he would be listening.
And so, Arren began to tell his father about his transmigration and about his previous life.
Although he also minced his words on some sensitive topics that might trigger his father’s anger, this was useless since even if he didn’t mention specific names or divulge what happened in his later years, his father could guess something about it.
His father also didn’t ask about those sensitive matters, even though his expression obviously darkened while listening to his son before it quickly changed to one of distress.
The Duke seemed not to be surprised by what he was hearing from his son, not only because he trusted his son so much but also because the reason for Arren’s actions when he was younger was finally being answered.
Once he was done, Arren lifted his head and looked at his father, since at some point when he was revealing his secrets, he could only look at their hands as though scared to see his father’s expression.
"Son." The Duke squeezed Arren’s hand and then embraced him again as he whispered. "You’re strong, son. You really are, and I’m so proud of you."
Even to this moment, Arren continued to be strong despite the suffering he endured in his past life. They were never going to be just memories but would forever be etched in Arren’s mind.
As a father, what was so painful was seeing his son hurt but continuing to stay strong so as not to cause others’ worries. More than that, he couldn’t do anything at all.
"I’m sorry..." This time, it was the Duke who apologized to his son.
However, Arren immediately shook his head and shut his eyes, letting himself be comfortable in his father’s arms.
"I’m fine, dad." Arren paused, and then he smiled weakly before saying his honest thoughts, "I’m going to be fine."
And that was true. Arren was determined to recover, and he was waiting... waiting for the day to see the root of the disaster fall on the pedestal he created for himself.
It was beyond revenge... Arren wanted justice, not only for him but for every one of their victims.
And if the Duke had sensed the shift in his son’s mood, he pretended he didn’t notice. His mind has the same thoughts, after all.
While Arren and Spade were having a father-son talk, Spade also walked into his omega father’s room. When he went inside, he couldn’t help but halt in step while he stood in front of the door.
A second after entering the room, Spade met Mother Empress Liviera’s eyes. The empress was leaning on the bed as he looked at Spade with his usual calm expression.
If not for the gauze in his head, no one might even suspect that he had only woken up from his coma. Even the bruises and wounds on his face were about to fade, not leaving any kind of scar.
Liviera had the bearing of an empress through and through.
For a moment, both of them stared at each other; neither of them shattered silence. In contrast to Arren and Duke Evan’s reunion, there wasn’t any emotional air that rose or some kind of sentiment from being a part of it for so long.
Spade and Liviera’s relationship wasn’t that harmonious, and they grew a bit distant after the late emperor’s death. And not to mention that before this, the two had a fight, and Liviera didn’t even want to meet Spade.
Aside from when Spade had seen his unconscious omega father, this would be their first time seeing each other again in weeks.
"Royal Mother." After a while, it was Spade who greeted him first.
Just as Spade thought that his omega father would ignore him, Liviera nodded and motioned to the seat beside him with his eyes.
Spade clenched his fist slightly, and he exhaled somehow with relief before approaching the bed.
