Chapter 281: This Life And The Next... We’re Together (1)

Arren spent his birthday with his father, as usual. And yet, he was not exactly satisfied. Perhaps it was due to his having expectations for this birthday. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

He thought at least Spade would greet him, but his birthday ended, and he had not heard anything from the alpha. He felt disappointed. After all, Arren was under the impression that their relationship might be ambiguous, but it was going in that inevitable direction in the end.

Of course, he didn’t let his mood affect his father, so he celebrated his birthday without thinking about anything else; only after he got home did he sulk about it.

The next day, as he didn’t have class, Arren decided to rest at home. Truly, he was still slightly mad that Spade had not greeted him, but he was hoping he would come like he usually did. To his dismay, Spade was also nowhere to be seen.

He frowned heavily and cursed Spade in his mind for being so heartless and clueless about his feelings. When it was afternoon, someone came into the mansion.

It wasn’t Spade, though, but Levin.

"Eh? What are you doing here?"Arren’s voice was slightly higher as he was not in a good mood. Even if he had also rarely seen Levin during the past year, there was no awkwardness between them.

Since their relationship was neither too good nor too bad to begin with.

As usual, there was a grin on his face, but there was something more particular this time as he looked at Arren.

"I’m here in His Majesty’s order to fetch you," Levin answered, emphasizing the title.

Arren frowned. "Spade did?" He was honestly confused and even quite shocked that he didn’t notice how he called Spade’s sole name in front of others.

Levin’s eyes slightly widened at this, but he pretended as though he had not noticed it; he only nodded as an answer.

"Why?" Arren asked, wanting to know the reason.

Inwardly, though he was having a fit once more, you didn’t greet me yesterday, and now you want me to visit you?

Levin shrugged helplessly. How would he know? Of course, he actually had a clue, but he wouldn’t tell Arren that.

"I don’t know. I’m only ordered to fetch you, that’s all."

Arren observed Levin’s expression, seemingly unconvinced. However, as he had not seen anything wrong with the alpha’s behavior, he slightly dismissed his doubts.

He fell into deep thought. He was still not in a good mood and was sulking for Spade’s zero presence on his birthday, but now that he was actively approaching him, Arren couldn’t find himself to refute this invitation.

Not only that, he was also curious about the reason why Spade had wanted Arren to visit him instead of the other way around, which became the norm for a few months.

"Okay, I’ll... Tell my father first."

Of course, his father permitted him immediately after telling him it was Spade’s summons. Still, Arren really thought his father was distracted earlier. Yet seeing him try to act so normal, Arren was forced to drop the topic and leave with Levin.

It didn’t take long for them to arrive at the palace, the place with which he had grown familiar for years, but suddenly, after not visiting it for a year, he was strangely nervous to set foot on the palace grounds again.

At each step, Arren couldn’t help but reminisce about the past, those days when he didn’t have a lot of problems and only wanted to visit the person he admired.

Slowly, he began to have conflicting thoughts. The direction they were heading was extremely familiar to him. How could he not? He walked through these hallways so many times that he couldn’t count them anymore.

The direction towards the particular garden deeper in the palace. At some point, Arren had not even noticed when Levin had left him and had stopped guiding him. He was the only one walking to one of the most remarkable places for him.

His heart had already started beating so fast that he could only hear it in his ears, and the solemn surroundings had emphasized it even more. He was both nervous and had some anticipation.

After all, he did miss this place.

The familiar sight of the garden finally greeted him a few minutes later. After all these years, it still appeared like a lone paradise on the wide ground. However, from a small garden back then, its appearance has now grown significantly larger, and it now occupies most of the space.

The various flowers were blooming, making this sight livelier and more refreshing for the onlookers. Arren felt as though he had not visited this place for years as he slowly walked to the entrance of the garden.

With the thumping of his heart, Arren had forced himself not to think of anything else but only seconds later, he was forced to halt in his steps. His eyes were instinctively glued to someone.

Someone stood at the entrance of the garden as though waiting for him. Arren seemed to fall directly into an illusion for a few seconds. He just couldn’t believe this scenario, no matter how rich his imagination was.

With a few steps of distance between them, their eyes met. No one spoke for a while; they only looked at each other for a few seconds. The setting and the atmosphere seemed to intensify the burning emotions within them.

It was to the point that it couldn’t be suppressed anymore. When was the right time? Was there really a right time for everything?

"You’re here." The alpha, Spade, was the one who shattered the silence first.

"Yes, I’m here," Arren answered.

No one took the initiative to shorten those few steps of distance, though, as they stood straight in their place as they continued to stare at each other.

Spade had also thought of this question. Would he wait for the right time? And then the question stifled him. It could be now or a few more years from now. There seemed to be no correct answer for it.

And he came to a realization. That ’right time’ could really be when the parties involved were ready to cross that boundary. There was no magical destiny or anything; it was up to them entirely.

And so... Spade stopped reasoning for himself.

He took a step towards Arren, but he still maintained enough space between them. It would only take two steps from Arren, and their distance would really be nonexistent.

"Arren... Can you listen to what I want to say?"
