The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1235: Nice Dance
Chapter 1235: Nice Dance
With one hand on her hip and one hand under her chin, Nainai slowly turned around to look at the “giant” on the bed. The young man had opened his eyes at some point and was gazing quietly at her.
“Ughhhh!”
“Why-why-why didn’t you say anything when you woke up?!”
“How-how-how dare you peek at this Empress’ dance! That isn’t supposed to be danced by this Empress, but this Empress’ backup dancer...”
...
The little person jumped up and down on the nightstand, buzzing and humming like a mosquito as her mouth opened and closed. Gao Yang couldn’t tell what she was saying.
He believed he should give her a response, though, or it would be rude. He said in a soft, weak voice, “Nice dance, Nainai.”
Nainai jumped off the nightstand and returned to her original size. Her face was flushed, and her head might as well be smoking. “You saw! You saw everything! This Empress commanded you to forget it all...”
She stopped and finally realized, “Wait, you’re awake?! You-you-you woke up!”
Gao Yang blinked at her. “Did I...wake up at a bad time?”
Nainai rushed out of the door like a gust of wind.
...
Single dorm room, Snake Room.
Light spilled from the bathroom to the dim room. Vapor rose and fogged up the matted glass. A tall, slim figure could be vaguely made out on the other side, taking a shower.
Ding. The microwave finished reheating food.
The water stopped trickling. The door opened, allowing the vapor to flood out. Qing Ling, wrapped in a towel, walked to the kitchen counter while toweling her hair with his head tilted.
She wrapped the towel around her hair and opened the microwave, taking the seafood sandwich out. She took a reverent bite with his eyes closed, chewing slowly, her damp heel slightly lifted from the floor.
This was the moment in a day Qing Ling most enjoyed.
The awakeners returned to the Millennium Tower after the Battle of the Curtain Call.
Once she woke up from her coma, Qing Ling had been training every day and rarely left the building. When she wasn’t training, she was watching over the unconscious Gao Yang in the ward—it was Vermilion Bird’s order that they should take shifts making sure that he was watched twenty-four-seven.
Late at night, Qing Ling had finished today’s training and returned to her room with sweat covering her body and exhaustion leadening her steps. She took a hot shower, then ate to resupply her energy.
The first bite of food after training not only woke her tastebuds, but also filled her stomach with a reassuring heaviness. Her love for the feeling of absorbing, filling, and growing bordered on obsession.
She swallowed her first bite of the sandwich with devotion. When she reached for the milk, bam! Someone barged into her room.
Qing Ling turned and frowned slightly at the visitor.
“Gao Yang...Gao Yang’s awake!” One Stone said between gasps.
Qing Ling stilled, her grip clenching around the sandwich. “Where’s Nainai?”
She remembered that Nainai was on shift tonight.
“She told me to tell you before running away,” One Stone said.
...
Bam! Nainai knocked the door to the laboratory open.
Holding a tablet, Dr. Jia was calibrating data before a new machine. He didn’t even turn around. “I don’t have time. Can’t you see that I’m busy...”
“Mortal!” Nainai charged at Dr. Jia. “This Empress is requisitioning your Talent!”
“Huh?” Dr. Jia had gotten many an unreasonable request, but this was a first. “My Talent? Which?”
“Memory Tailor!”
“For what?”
“Gao Yang saw what he must not see...”
“What? Gao Yang’s up?!” Dr. Jia rushed out, ecstatic.
“Hey...stop! This Empress orders you to stop!” Nainai chased after him.
“Stop! Stop!” Parry trailed after them.
A minute later, Dr. Jia, Nainai, and Parry chased each other to the door to the special ward. One Stone, Quiet Book, Sun Hu, and Tang Xiaocong were already there.
“Gao Yang’s awake?” Dr. Jia hurried out.
One Stone nodded. “Yeah.”
“Hurry!” Dr. Jia rushed to the door. “I’m getting some vital energy!”
He had long wanted to get more of Divine Scion’s vital energy, but Vermilion Bird was adamant in rejecting him. Gao Yang had remained in a deep coma even after the three months period. To be safe, she couldn’t let Dr. Jia have his way.
Now that Gao Yang was awake, Dr. Jia couldn’t wait a second longer.
“What are you, a tyrant?” One Stone scoffed in exasperation. “Captain’s just woken up. Qing Ling’s inside. Give them some time.”
“But...”
“No but!” One Stone insisted. “I just called Sister Xia. She said, and I quote, ‘I can relate to your concern of Captain, but other than Qing Ling, none of you are bothering him. He’ll seek us out once he’s ready.’”
“Ugh, fine,” Dr. Jia grumbled with frustration.
“Wait, this Empress...this Empress must see him...” Nainai had copied Dr. Jia’s Memory Tailor.
“No!” One Stone did not relent. She shooed them away. “Go. Go back to whatever you were up to!”
“Sister One Stone, I won’t enter. I’m just gonna listen from outside the door.” Tang Xiaocong smiled mischievously, about to press her ear to the door.
“Shoo, stop making trouble!” One Stone steered her away.
Soon, the hallway quieted.
After making sure that no one was around, One Stone pressed her face to the door.
