Chapter 995: BONUS Chapter: THE CHILDREN

"Zaya... Zaya..."

"Stop calling her name. How can she sleep if you kept calling her?"

"But, she has been sleeping all day."

"Shouldn’t you two be in bed now?" Cane crossed his arms, as the two little boys in front of him startled with the presence of their father. They were too engrossed with their little baby sister, thus they didn’t notice their father’s presence.

Cane almost smiled to see how his boys’ expression when they were being caught red handed to sneak around in the middle of the night.

Their blue eyes shone brightly in this dimly lit room, while behind them, inside her crib, their baby sister was giggling, as if she knew that her brother got into a trouble.

Iris just gave birth to their daughter five months ago and this bundle of joy was truly a blessing in their life and her two older brothers adored her so much.

This was not the first time for Zander and Zenith sneaked around and came to Zaya’s nursery room, which was the room next to Cane and Iris’s room, the same nursery room that they used for Zander and Zenith.

"So, what is your excuse now?" Cane walked toward the crib and checked on Zaya, she babbled and moved her little arms and legs when she saw him, the sight would be able to melt the hardest rock.

"Zan dragged me to go with him," Zenith said.

"You used that excuse before." Cane ruffled Zenith’s hair. "Moreover, you can refuse him if you didn’t want."

"Dad, you know how persistence Zan is."

Meanwhile, Zander put on an innocent face, he blinked his big blue eyes at Cane like a puppy. "Daddy, I missed Zaya. I know she is awake, so I came to play with her until she fell asleep again."

"You are aware that you have training tomorrow morning, right?" Cane showed them stern expression which made them avoided his eyes. "I heard from Joel and Finn both of you didn’t pay attention to the training at all."

"I paid attention to the training. I won a fight against Zen!" Zander complained.

"Only because your brother is too sleepy to fight you."

Zenith was about to yawn, but he pressed his lips when he heard what his father said. Cane could only shake his head. Joel and Finn couldn’t stop them and weirdly enough, the two of them went out of their bedrooms at the same time, which was amazing.

If it happened one time, it must be a coincidence, but it happened all the time.

"How can you do that?" Cane asked an explanation from them.

"Zan called me," Zenith replied. He crept to the crib and nudged Zaya’s cheek, as the baby giggled. "Zan kept calling me, until I couldn’t sleep."

"He knocked on your door?" Cane frowned. Joel or Finn must have stopped them to make such noise.

"No. He called me in here." Zenith tapped his forehead. "His voice is in my head." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Cane was surprised to hear that. It was well known that most of the Howling Wolf pack lost their ability to mindlink, but from Zenith and Zander’s explanation, Cane could tell, without doubt that what happened between them was indeed mind link.

"Was that bad thing?" Zander asked, after he told his father how he discovered this ability for the first time, but he could only use it on Zenith. Probably, because they were twin?

Cane would talk about this to Iris the next day, but unfortunately he forgot, until the discovery dragged to another week and then months.

Zaya was eight months old now and she was a happy baby, but you would be able to notice one thing about her, that she didn’t like someone touched her hair, she would become fussy if they tried to tie her hair or put an accessory on her head. She would take it off.

"Anneer..." Zaya babbled.

"Hear that! Hear that! She said my name!" Zander was bouncing up and down when he heard that, he went to Joel and Finn to let them know about it, also to Ezgar, Rye and Zale.

Zenith frowned. "Say Zenith."

Iris giggled and bent her body slightly, while Zaya in her arms stretched out her arms toward Zenith, laughed happily to see her brother. The little one even twisted her body, she wanted to be carried by him.

Zenith kissed her cheek. "I am dirty. I will play with you after my training, okay?"

Just like usual, Iris came to see her sons training with Zaya, she also brought food for them to eat together and currently, Cane was the one, who trained the twins and the two boys had been complaining nonstop whenever it was their father, because Cane could be harsh in his training, since Joel and Finn would often slack off with them.

"Ufhh... no... no..." Zaya stretched out her arms, wanted Zenith to pick her up and this time, he relented and carried her for a while before he went back to the training with Cane.

Once the training was done, Zander and Zenith went to see their baby sister after they cleaned up themselves, who was now with Grilla, while Cane and Iris had some discussion inside the strategy room.

"I have been wanting to tell you about this, but I kept forgetting to bring up the topic." Cane took off his clothes, because of how dirty it was.

"What is it?" Iris came with a new set of clothes and helped Cane to wipe his body, there was no one there with them.

"I think Zander and Zenith can do mindlink."

Iris raised her brows. "What made you think that way?"

Cane started to recall what the twin told him that night around three months ago and he was sure that they were mindlinking each other and they still did it until now.

"What happened back then must only affect the people, who came in contact with the hazard, but it didn’t affect their children." That was Cane’s theory.

"I think you are right about that." Iris thought about that. She had not yet touched the subject about mindlink and probably completely forgot about it, because there was no different for them and currently the situation was very peaceful. "I will look into it."

Cane turned around and kissed the tip of her nose. "You don’t need to stress yourself about it. The warriors have lived this way and they have come into term with it. It’s good that the next generation could have this ability back.

"Hm." Iris nodded. However, she had another concern. "How long have you learned about this?"

"Three months or so."

Worriedness flitted Iris’s eyes. She also heard from Ethan and Jace, also Redmond that Cane would forget a few things here and there. Lou was the one, who pointed it out first, but Iris brushed it off as something normal, since they had a lot of things to handle.

"It’s nothing like that," Cane said, he hugged his mate. He knew what was in her mind and he didn’t like to see her being worried. "I am only being reckless because it has been very peaceful and joyful in the last few years, so I slacked off." Hence, he became a little bit forgetful.

Iris hugged Cane tighter, she was still not convinced with that.

Years ago, she used air magic stone on Cane after she lost the lycan to prevent him from having the same fate like Haco.

But, Cane absorbed the air magic stone and this stunned Iris. In this case, you could say that the air magic stone had disappeared from this realm, but Iris couldn’t care less about it.

"It’s not like that." Cane kissed her cheek.

"You need to promise me to tell me everything if you felt something is off with your body, okay?" Iris lifted her head to look at him straight in his eyes.

"Promise." Cane nodded.

"Cane... I don’t know what I am going to do without you." Iris rested her head against his chest. "Please, take this matter seriously."

Cane chuckled. "You are overthinking." He caressed her back. "I am here, where should I go when my family is here?"

Iris didn’t respond to that, but suddenly the door was opened and Zenith burst inside the room, but he halted when he saw his mother and father.

"Mommy, are you crying?" Zenith frowned. "Mommy, what happened?"

Iris smiled to her son. "Nothing. Mommy is not crying." She looked cheerful again and this made Zenith relaxed. "What happened? You know that you should knock on the door, right?"

"I am sorry," Zenith said, but he was too excited to tell them that Zaya finally called his name. "Come here! Come here! You need to hear it too!"

It was not often to see Zenith was excited about something.

The little boy took his mother and father’s hand and guided them out of the strategy room. Grilla greeted them and gave Zaya to Cane. The little baby giggled to see her father, as she kept babbling incoherently.

Zaya gave Cane a kiss on his cheek and you could tell that she would have her father wrapped around her little fingers.

Zaya had blue eyes like Iris and with her auburn hair, needless to say, she was really a mini version of her and no one would be able to say otherwise.

She was a sweet baby, but a few years later, under the influence of her brothers you would see how mischievous she could be.

And sometime, their children could give Iris and Cane a heart attack.
