Chapter 968: THE FINAL BATTLE (34)

It was a bliss.

Cane watched Iris breastfed their firstborn, while he held their second son. The little ones only a day old, but they could tell which one that was the most active spirit that Iris had seen.

Their firstborn woke up a few times last night, making a baby noise, which woke Cane and Iris up, while the second one would sleep through the night and only wake up when he was hungry, but after that he would fall asleep again.

Like right now, their firstborn was breastfeeding to Iris, while making a few noises, he also had opened his eyes and it was not a surprise when they saw a pair of golden eyes that stared back at them, while the second born was content to be able to sleep with full stomach.

Cane stared at Iris, who was cooing the baby, while the baby made noises, as if to respond to her. It felt like a dream, something that he didn’t even dare to imagine a year ago.

He didn’t even think that one day he would feel this happiness again. The peacefulness, despite the chaotic world out there. He wanted to shield his little family with everything he had.

However, both of them knew, sooner than later, they would need to face the calamity that awaited them out there, but for now, they wanted to enjoy their moment with their new family members.

"Who is that?" Iris asked, she frowned when she heard a little bit commotion out there. Hanna and Aliana just returned after they visited her this morning, because there were a lot of thing they needed to take care of, after all tomorrow a few ships would dock in the harbor and the shifters attempted to flee from this continent.

"Lou," Cane replied, he stood up and walked toward the door with the baby in his arms, only to see Lou was having a ridiculous argumentation with Zale.

Apparently, the merchant wanted to enter the room, but Zale and the other warriors didn’t allow him.

"I want to congratulate her, what’s the matter? It’s not like I am an enemy," Lou said incredulously. "I am her chosen protector, if there was someone, who needed to be here, it should be me."

Lou stopped his rambling when he saw Cane with the baby.

"Don’t make a ruckus here, there is a sleeping baby," Cane said coldly at Lou, all the warriors quieted down because they didn’t want to wake up the little one, even when they guarded the door, they would walk slowly.

"Let me see this cute baby!" Lou said enthusiastically.

"You don’t like little child, Lou," Cane reminded him, which made Lou’s smile vanished in an instant.

"Well, people changed." He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, was not really convincing if he said that he liked a baby now. But, Lou stretched out his arms, asking to carry the baby. "Don’t you want me to check the baby? I am not a healer, but I am close to it. You must have not yet found a healer, right?"

Cane narrowed his eyes. He trusted Lou with his judgment, but he didn’t really trust him to hand over his baby. No, he didn’t really trust anyone with his babies.

"Oh, come on, what if something happened that you two didn’t know? Didn’t she expose to a lot of black magic when she was pregnant with the babies?" Lou frowned to see the distrust in Cane’s eyes.

"If it is black magic, Iris will be more than capable to handle it."

Okay, he got the point.

"What if this related to a health issue?"

In the end, Cane handed over the baby to Lou, but his son started to make uncomfortable face. The way Lou held him must be too stiff. It didn’t take long before the baby was crying.

Seeing this, Cane immediately snatched his baby from Lou, but the merchant told him to wait until he finished it first.

"Okay, he is as health as a horse!"

Cane frowned. This was not the first time Lou made a comment to compare his son with horse and it started to get on his nerves.

However, the little one took the matter into his own little hand, as he peed on Lou.

The merchant didn’t realize it, but then he felt something wet and warm in front of his body and when he realized it, he freaked out.

Cane immediately took his baby, a smirk rose on the corner of his lips. "Good job," he said softly, kissing his little nose, while Lou grumbled.

"This is the first time, someone peed on me!" He growled, while the other warriors laughed at him, Zale was actually double down, as his stomach felt so hurt, as he laughed heartily.

"You should be honor." Cane then turned around and entered the room, locking the door behind him.

"What honor!?"

Iris tilted her head, she heard the commotion, but couldn’t make what they were saying. "What happened? Did Lou cause trouble?"

"It’s okay, our baby has handled him."

"Hm?" Iris frowned, but when she wanted to ask further, Cane already went into the bathroom and cleaned the baby. After Cane held him again, he fell asleep. Even when he washed him, he was still sleeping, only pursed his lips and snuggled against his chest, as his father dried him.

Meanwhile, the baby in Iris’s arms still made baby noises, opened his eyes a few times and looked his surrounded curiously.

Later that night, the two of them would be woken up by their firstborn, because he was hungry and this one thing that Cane couldn’t help Iris with. He suggested to find someone to help her to breastfeed their babies, but Iris refused the idea. She loved her time when she breastfed the babies. She felt the connection with them, something that she couldn’t explain.

And then the day where the ships docked at the harbor came, but before that, early this morning there was a blizzard and you could see the red smoke that came closer toward this pack.

It was not their intention to have any contact with the elders, but they had to put aside their dispute and had an urgent meeting with them.

Iris and Cane had to leave their babies for the first time. They appointed Aliana and Hanna to take care of them and with the two of them, Joel and Finn.

More so, they wouldn’t be too far, the meeting was held only the room next to where the babies stayed.

Cane was worried because Iris just gave birth, but her recovery was incredulous, she was already able to walk the next day she gave birth and now she looked almost normal. Cane stayed by her side the whole time, as they sat on their chair, facing the people from the Holy Kingdom, which consisted only the three elders.

Abby was there too, she gave her baby to Arella, who stayed with Aliana and Hanna, but she sat down at the opposite from the three elders, showing which side she had chosen now.

Elder Rose looked a little bit hurt and sad to see this, but she masked her emotion so well.
