Chapter 1020: SIDE STORY (WILL): THE BABY

In Will’s eyes, Hanna was very perfect. Even if people said that everyone had their own flaw, but for him, Hanna had none.

She was so bright and radiant. Her smile was blinding and the sight of her alone could warm his cold heart.

Will felt like he was going crazy that he actually fell harder for her in each passing day. Their nights were peaceful, but most of them would be passionate.

Hanna was very patient with her and whenever she was around, his main focus would be her. Will would unconsciously look for her in the crowd of people and only when his eyes found her, he could be relaxed again.

He didn’t think it was possible, but now whenever Will remembered the past, he would always see her. The time during his slavery faded in the background. Hanna was all he remembered.

Her kindness, her smile, her voice, her touch, everything...

And now, Will was going insane when he found Hanna was sick. A shifter shouldn’t be sick easily, if it happened, it must be something serious and Will had been on edge when he took her to Penny, the royal healer.

"So, what happened?" Will asked. His brows furrowed, as if the frown would be permanent.

"She is fine," Penny said with a chuckle.

"How can she be fine when she has been feeling off since two days ago?!" Will didn’t usually raise his voice, but he did when he saw Penny didn’t take his mate’s health seriously, she even chuckled?

Hanna placed her hand on his arm to calm him down, but Penny didn’t take it to heart, since she knew how protective men around the king were when it came to their mate. The king was the ultimate example of how devoted a man to their woman.

"Don’t you notice something is off?" Penny asked, she seemed to have a lot of time in her hand to tease the agitated Will. "Don’t you find something different about her?"

Will was not happy with this riddle, but he indeed noticed something was a slightly different with Hanna, but not in a bad way. He noticed a little thing that changed about her, but what stood out the most was her scent.

"Her scent is sweeter..." he said absentmindedly, which made Hanna blushed.

"I don’t think my scent changed," she said.

However, Penny agreed with Will. "Yes, most of the time, a woman shifter would have a change of scent whenever they were pregnant," she said it casually, as if she was talking about the weather.

Penny enjoyed the sight of Hanna and Will when her words started to sunk in. She then burst into a laughter when she walked over and hugged her.

"Congratulation!"

Will snapped from his reverie when he heard Penny congratulated Hanna. He looked dumbfounded and probably this was not the best reaction that he had because he was silent for so long in which worried Hanna.

"Are you, okay?" Hanna asked. He shook his hand and Will only nodded. He stared at her flat stomach. No one would notice that she was pregnant if they saw her right now.

If the queen was in the capital city, she would have noticed her pregnancy right away, since she had a way to recognize it early.

"I am fine."

Hanna looked worried and Penny looked confused, because she thought Will would burst into tears, or even laughed so hard, but his lack of reaction made the two women concern.

In the end, Hanna excused herself and Will, as they returned to their house, where she sat him down, because she was not sure why Will was being like this.

"Are you, okay?" Hanna asked, she sat down next to him and caressed his head like usual.

"I am fine."

It was the same sentence.

Hanna bit her lip, she didn’t want to ask about this because she dreaded the answer, but she really needed to know.

"Don’t you... feel happy about our baby?"

Will finally lifted his head and looked at her in the eyes. "Do you think... I can be a good father?" he asked in small voice, he looked genuinely scared.

You could say that Will was one of the best warriors, he was there with the alpha during the war and had gone through countless battles and even more adversity, but right he was scared to think that he was going to be a father.

On the other hand, Hanna was actually glad that was the reason why Will was being very quiet. She was thinking the worse.

"Of course, Will." Hanna kissed his forehead. "We will be a good parent for our child."

"Will our child like me?"

"Our child will love you."

Will lowered his head and then got off on his knees as he rested his head on her lap. He cried silently. He didn’t know why he reacted this way, but the news overwhelmed him with a lot of emotions, but mostly it was fear.

Somehow, the first thing that kicked in his mind when he learned Hanna was pregnant was all the scary stories that people told him about labor, especially Redmond’s.

Redmond had told him about the story when he was there during Sofia’s labor with Rye. It didn’t also help with the fact that many people always said a woman was on the brink of death when they gave birth to their baby.

The thought of losing Sofia or even knowing she was in pain didn’t settle well with him.

But because of that, Will turned to be even more protective of her. He didn’t let her do anything, not even lifting a plate. He literally waited on hand and foot.

"Will, I am pregnant, not sick." Hanna was speechless when Will said that he actually made a request to the king that he wanted to stay at home with her for at least, a year until Hanna gave birth to their baby.

The thought of asking the king for such request was already so wild, but the king actually granted it. That was insane!

The queen came two days ago the moment she learned about her pregnancy. Lately, they didn’t see each other often, especially when Hanna was no longer stayed in the palace.

"No. They said the early pregnancy is the risky one," Will said. He didn’t want Hanna be in pain and even more if something bad happened to her and the baby.

All of them saw how devastated the queen was when she lost her twin. Will would be doomed, if he had to see Hanna was in that position.

Will shook his head internally. His intrusive thoughts kept bothering him.

"Will, you need to relax, or else, you will not enjoy this moment," Hanna said softly, but this time, Will was very tensed. He would wake up in the middle of the night if Hanna was as much as moved her body when she slept.

And when Hanna took a nap and didn’t move, he would come closer and pressed his ear to her chest or put his finger under her nose.

Hanna was afraid Will would go crazy even before their baby was born. She talked to Aliana about her concern and Jace finally had a talk with Will.

Redmond, Lou and Ethan also talked to him, but to be honest, the merchant was not helping at all. He came with more scary stories about when the woman was giving birth, which resulted Hanna kicked him out of their house.

"Careful, careful..." Will helped Hanna to sit down when she started showing, which made it very real for him and by this point, Hanna could only enjoy her time to be a human vegetable, because Will didn’t allow her to do anything, especially now when he was at home all the time.

"Come here," Hanna said, she patted the seat next to her and put his hand over her stomach. Will sat down next to her carefully and look at her with questioning look. "Can you feel that?"

At first, Will didn’t know what to feel, he barely touched her stomach, afraid that he put too much pressure on her, but then he felt the movement.

"Ah!"

Hanna chuckled to see his reaction and then laughed when he actively searched for their baby movement again.

"I think our baby loved to hear your voice," Hanna said. "Why don’t you sing for our baby?"

Hanna knew that Will had a good voice, but he didn’t like to sing, unless she pestered him about it and he only did it reluctantly.

Now, Hanna wanted to see if he would sing for their baby.

Will furrowed his brows, but then he started to hum.

This was the moment, where Hanna knew that Will would do anything, everything for her and their baby.

"Oh, the baby is moving!" Will said. He widened his eyes in surprised and then started to actually sing for the baby.

"See? I told you, the baby loves your voice."

With that, Will would sing for Hanna when she fell asleep and sang for their baby whenever he had a chance.

"What is it? He retired from being a warrior and is now a singer?" Lou came with Ethan to talk about a few things with Will, but noticed this new habit of his.

"At least, he has a good voice." Ethan shrugged his shoulders.

Lou rolled his eyes. "The baby will have him wrap around their fingers."

"Yeah, I think Will, Redmond and Cane could be in one group now," Ethan stated.
