That Time My Anime Life Got Cursed by Outer Gods-Chapter 96 - 95: You Are a Fool
Chapter 96 - 95: You Are a Fool
With the momentum of his strike, Shiro Sakamaki knocked out several people in quick succession. The aftermath left the so-called tough guys trembling like scared quails.
Spreading his hands, Shiro explained with a shrug, "That's the situation. I only meant to teach them a lesson... didn't expect them to be that fragile."
The girls around him were indignant, especially after hearing what those guys had tried to do to Yukino. Their expressions darkened with fury.
"Don't worry about it, Yukinoshita-san. I'll handle this," Shiro said calmly.
"...Call me Yukino."
"Huh?" Shiro blinked, unsure if he heard her right. That didn't sound like something Yukinoshita Yukino would say so casually.
"You can just call me Yukino," she repeated, her voice quieter but certain. "This all started because of me, so it's only right that I take responsibility."
With that, she turned toward the door, intent on leaving.
But before she could take a step, Shiro suddenly appeared in front of the door, blocking her path.
The girls behind them were visibly confused—he had just been at the table a second ago.
Shiro's eyes narrowed slightly. "And what exactly are you planning to do? Take all the blame yourself?"
Yukino hesitated, then nodded softly. She couldn't think of another way. After all, this incident started with her—and Shiro acted because of her.
"You ever think about what happens after you take all that responsibility?"
"Consequences?" Yukino furrowed her brow. "What do you mean?"
"You think this is Sobu High? That you can just play the noble role and everything works out? Wake up, this is Shuchiin Academy. And my family... is a lot more influential than yours."
"If you take the blame, your family will be dragged into it. Their businesses, their reputation—it'll all take a hit."
"They can't touch me, but you? You're an easy target."
He took a step closer, voice low and serious. "The heat's on me right now. So stay behind me. Stop trying to act like you're some lone heroine."
The girls behind them glanced at each other, realization dawning in their eyes. Shiro's words made it clear—he knew Yukino very well. Their relationship was definitely not just "classmates."
Yukino bit her lip. She was a serious and principled girl, but she lacked real-world experience. In her mind, taking responsibility was the cleanest way to resolve things.
Maybe even noble.
But she hadn't considered the weight of the consequences.
"...But—"
"No buts. Say one more word and I'll have Haruno come take you home."
That shut her up. She knew Shiro meant what he said. And the thought of involving her parents... or worse, her sister, made her falter.
The courage she'd just mustered shrank a bit.
Shiro reached out and gently ruffled her hair.
"Relax. I've got this. Just trust me."
She didn't resist this time. Her cheeks flushed, her breath hitched slightly. His hand lingered for just a moment in her silky black hair, and her heart skipped a beat.
Shiro was undeniably cool in that moment—anyone would've been a little moved.
But then she remembered—he was her sister's boyfriend.
And just like that, the feeling vanished.
Turning to the others, Shiro announced, "Looks like that's it for club activities today."
No one argued. They all looked at him with worried eyes.
But he smiled and said, "Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere until we perform together on stage."
---
After Shiro left, the girls swarmed around Yukino like bees to honey, their faces lit with curiosity and mischief.
Yukino, who had barely had any friends her whole life, was visibly uncomfortable under the attention. She instinctively took two steps back, trying to preserve her usual cold demeanor—but it was hard now.
Tsumugi had already poured her a cup of freshly brewed black tea, smiling warmly.
"Yukino-san, please enjoy."
---
Meanwhile, Shiro had barely stepped out of the building when his phone buzzed. The screen lit up with Haruno.
Of course. It had to be Hiratsuka-sensei who told her.
"Hey, Haruno."
"Darling, are you okay? Do you need me to come over?"
Shiro chuckled. "You know me. You really think I'd need backup?"
"You idiot, still joking at a time like this?"
"It's under control. I've got a plan. You watching over Yukino is more than enough."
"Yukino-chan? What happened to her?"
Shiro sighed and explained how Yukino had tried to take the fall for everything.
Haruno wasn't like her younger sister. She'd been through her fair share of life's ups and downs and could read between the lines instantly.
"...If you hadn't stopped her, she'd be in deep trouble," she muttered.
They talked a little longer, and after comforting her, Shiro hung up.
Only then did it hit him—he was the one at the center of this mess. Why was he the one reasoning with Yukino, and comforting Haruno?
They were acting like they were the victims.
"...Maybe I should start charging for emotional support," he muttered.
'How about some payback tonight?'—the thought slipped into his mind before he quickly shut it down. Too shameless. Even for him.
He walked home in silence, turning everything over in his head. He had said he had a plan—but that was only half true.
At best, he could transfer schools and walk away clean.
But even he had to admit... that solution felt like running away.
