"Somebody let me out!" Kragen shouted maybe for the millionth time. He has been locked up for two days now but yet it felt like a century. "If you don’t let me out this instant, I swear, there’s going to be a massacre when I get out. Get me the goddess... I have a lot of things to say to her,".
"You’re disturbing our peace, Fenrir," Lilith rolled her eyes "And I hate that I am always stuck with you. It’s either you stop talking or I put you to sleep. You’re disturbing everyone,".
"You might as well," Kragen hissed "Because I’m not stopping anytime soon until you get me the moon goddess,".
"I am here," the goddess spoke up, gliding to the cell he was locked inside gracefully. "Fenrir," she sighed softly "Haven’t you learnt your lesson? You cannot be friends with these creatures. We’re supposed to be over them and not the other way. I don’t know what hold, Selene has on you but this was the only way,".
"This was the only way?" Kragen lashed, his pupils dark with fury, "Selene depends on me for a lot of things and just when she needs me, I couldn’t be there. She was locked up, maltreated in every way possible. You saw what they’re about to do and you want me to sit and fold my arms? What kind of a person are you? Don’t you feel pity for her? She’s with child... have you forgotten?"
"That brings me to the bone of contention," the moon goddess sighed again "Why did you tell her she’s with child? It’s not in your place to tell her that. Her knowledge of that will make her deviate from her fated path. You cannot save everyone, Fenrir. When we make these ones, we put them on a path which they must follow. What were you thinking when you ...". free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Fine!" Kragen interrupted her "Can I ask for a few minutes? I swear, it won’t take more than 10, 20 minutes? I need to go to her and assure her that everything is fine. She’s scared...she’s worried... You cannot imagine...".
"No!" the moon goddess said abruptly making the rest of the words in his mouth dry off "There’s no helping of Selene, Fenrir. She needs to figure things out on her own. It’s enough that with the knowledge of this baby, she’s going to change her fate once more... you’ve given her another reason to fight...".
"I don’t understand..." Kragen shook his head staring at the moon goddess "What do you mean change her fate? I thought you said her path is blank and she would need to make it herself,".
"That was before," the goddess sighed "To bring to an end the curse... she must make an ultimate sacrifice and I was going to use the baby, without her knowing but I know Selene more than anything, she’s resilient and stronger than must people you’d ever meet. I just wish she’d have the sense of decency to trust more in me,".
"She needs that child...that is her trump card from Nora Carrells death sentence," Kragen countered "I did tell her on purpose so she can save herself and I am not sorry. It’s our duty to protect our subjects not to let them die off like commoners. Now, I just need to go heal Noah and make him come in at the most crucial moments. Every minute, I delay... she hates me more... please,".
"You must attend to you duties as a god, Kragen. I am afraid that if I let you got that you would go back to her and I cannot afford that. You must promise that if I release you, that will go back and perform your duties?"
Kragen eyed the moon goddess for a few seconds and then shook his head "I’m not sure I can promise that," he shrugged "I’ll do anything right about now for Selene, even if it means disobeying you,".
"If you leave and go to that woman, I’ll take back your form and I may never give it back to you. You’d spend the rest of your life taking up forms and shapes of other creatures and never your own," the goddess threatened.
"Fine!" Kragen shrugged without a thought "I’ve spent all these years coping with that. A few more million years won’t change anything. These creatures rely on us... they send their greetings to you every day, every single moment. They’ve erected beautiful monuments and edifices for you and yet you want to turn your back on them when they need yout the most?"
"It is their path to take," the goddess screeched, getting riled up. She wasn’t the kind of person to lose her grit but something about Kragen always make her do. "We can only serve as guide to them. Stop making me repeat myself again and again. Now, what do you choose?"
"Get me out of here first and you’d get your answer," Kragen said calmly.
The goddess stared at him for a few more minutes, shook her head before she snapped her fingers at Lilith who hurried and open the cell gates. As soon as Kragen came out, he stretched his cramped up body for a few minutes before he turned to the goddess.
"Aside from me just doing things with Selene... she’s my friend and one thing I’ve learnt with my days of mingling with these creatures is; that they value friendship more than we can ever comprehend and friends always show up for each other. I am going to turn up for Selene... if you want to take my form then so be it... even if you want to kill me...". Kragen trailed "Well... you can do that right...".
"Don’t be foolish, Fenrir, please..." the moon goddess begged "I don’t want to harm you... please...".
"But you have..." Fenrir smiled "All those years you ignored me and pretended I didn’t exist... when are you going to show compassion on the 6-year-old you abandoned and left me with him. You know he wasn’t capable of raising a child but you let him keep me, to do what? Save face? Well... you’re not my mother... you cannot tell me what to do...bye!"
