65 -65 Walk, Walk, Walk
When Leon first learned the Transformation Skill, he looked forward to venturing everywhere in human form.
After settling into a comfortable life in Oasis City for a while, he suddenly lost the urge to adventure, and rumors lost their appeal to him.
Yet they indirectly influenced him all the same.
“If I hadn’t seen your true form, I’d seriously doubt whether you’re actually a Red Dragon.”
In a corner of Oasis City, inside a fairly luxurious house, Tassera sat in a pavilion watching Leon as he lounged on a sunbed, soaking up the Sun and continuously complaining.
“Why would you say that?” Leon picked up a bunch of grapes from the small round table next to the sunbed, and as he ate them, he remarked, unable to help but reflect on how rough his previous life in the wild had been, “Just because I bought a house?”
Indeed, having lived in Oasis City for a while and finding life there quite agreeable—mainly because he had robbed the Efreeti and had plenty of money—Leon decisively spent a fortune on a mansion.
As expected, living in his own house felt much better than any inn.
“Transforming into a human and living in the city, spending money to buy a house, buying furniture to decorate it, doesn’t sound like a Red Dragon at all,” Blue Dragon said with a snort after looking around, “Only Silver Dragons like transforming into humanoids and living in cities, forming strong friendships with mortals, even love…
Such despicable creatures.”
Leon thought to himself that in this world, Dragonblood could be found everywhere; it wouldn’t be a surprise if a toad carried some Dragon Blood in its veins.
With this in mind, Silver Dragons favoring humanoids seemed relatively mild in terms of their tastes.
Leon knew his own story well; he was essentially a Human wearing Red Dragon Skin…
Although, by now, there was some gradual blending, mutual influence, so to speak.
As the saying goes, ‘the outer is born of the inner, the inner is born of the outer.’ It didn’t stop him from chuckling and saying, “If it wasn’t for having only seen my mother, who is typically a Red Dragon, I might have wondered if my father was different.
I’ve never seen him.”
“You really dare to wonder!” Tassera exclaimed, “Silver Dragons and Red Dragons would fight to the death.”
The relationship between Silver Dragons and Red Dragons was incredibly bad due to their tendency to build nests in similar terrains, frequently fighting over territory.
Furthermore, Silver Dragons, as Metal Dragons, were Lawful Good and strongly despised the Chaotic Evil Red Dragons’ predilection for murder and destruction.
“I’d be curious to see what a child of a Silver Dragon and a Red Dragon would look like,” mused Blue Dragon suddenly.
Leon seriously considered his origins for a moment, such as whether the Mother Dragon had a mate.
It was possible that she did, or maybe not.
The reason was simple: as Magic Creatures, Dragons had long transcended natural laws; a Dragon Egg could come into being through many paths.
If a mature or even older Dragon wanted to reproduce asexually, it was as easy as turning over one’s hand.
After finishing the grapes, Leon with narrowed eyes, asked, “What’s the real reason you came looking for me all of a sudden?”
“Do you just lie here every day doing nothing?” Tassera inquired.
“What else?” replied Leon.
Leon gazed at the sky thoughtfully.
Though he lived here, there remained many inconveniences.
The house was spacious for his human form, but all too small in Dragon Form…
This wasn’t his territory; he couldn’t walk around in Dragon Form without facing numerous punitive expeditions.
If possible, he’d still want to build a nest on the Volcano Top and construct a castle at the base of the mountain.
“Have you heard the recent rumor that’s all the buzz?” Tassera said, “Lately, many people have been coming to me for divination…
They’re planning to head deep into the desert to explore the ruins, asking me how their adventure will turn out.”
“And then?” Leon now knew the truth behind Blue Dragon’s divination.
None of it involved any real Prophecy Spells, just a cunning Blue Dragon exploiting vagueness, psychological suggestion, cold reading, and the Barnum effect, meaning people tend to believe vague and general statements easily.
“I gave them vague replies,” Tassera said.
In truth, she had earned the trust of many adventurers by doing a little something, “Lamia, Jackalwere, Mummies, Yuan-Ti…
Exploring ruins, they’re bound to encounter such creatures, so I recommended they buy some items to counter those monsters.”
“I really made a big score.” Blue Dragon couldn’t help laughing, “Once I’ve saved up enough money, I want to buy a cursed Pharaoh mask.”
“Profiteer,” Leon snarked.
Tassera took it not as a shame but as a badge of honor.
“Aren’t you curious about that tomb?” Tassera said, “A tomb that just popped up out of nowhere, well-preserved and still untouched by greedy adventurers, is bound to hide countless treasures and unknown knowledge.”
“Do you want to go?” Leon asked.
Tassera nodded: “I do.”
She didn’t suffer from Dragon mental illness too severely, but she was still a Storage Dragon.
Storage Dragons would go on adventures for a rare Magic Book, especially when there was a chance to acquire forbidden knowledge.
Driven by curiosity, they would willingly step into danger.
“I’m not interested,” Leon said, reminded by countless movies, TV series, and novels he had seen in the past about one thing, “A sudden emergence of a tomb drawing countless adventurers is surely a plot brewing, and I don’t want to risk my life.”
Leon was confident in his strength, rarely meeting his match under normal circumstances, but he was not so overconfident as to stay close to Oasis City every time he transformed into a Red Dragon.
“Coward.”
“You know I’m not a regular Red Dragon; I don’t fall for provocations.”
“I promise to make you a Stone Magic Statue, no matter what design you want, a pretty girl or the strange robot called Gundam.”
“When are you planning to leave?”
It was said that the desert where the tomb was located was always in the midst of a storm, with the storm stirring up sand that blocked out the sky.
With the view from above being limited, especially since it was unknown how many adventurers were there or if there were any conspiracies afoot, Leon and Tassera, after discussing it, decided to abandon the idea of flying there in Dragon Form.
Instead, they would maintain their human form, which was less conspicuous and smaller in scale, and then adapt their plan according to the situation on site.
Afterward, they quickly packed up, and Leon and Tassera set off deep into the desert on camels.
Then, the adventure had just begun when Leon immediately realized he was actually not wealthy at all, just slightly well-off.
Blue Dragon was the real rich lady, drinking from an Endless Water Bag, which auto-refilled when emptied, and wearing a brass ring shaped like a coiled rattlesnake made walking on the soft desert sands no different from any other ground…
The Magic Items in her Dimension Bag were endless.
It was the first time Leon knew that Mother Dragon could be as vain as a human girl.
Evidence was Tassera, who even amidst rolling sands still dressed pretty in skirts…
Blue Dragon’s body might be even richer than her wealth.
Leon shifted his gaze away from Tassera and suddenly wished to grow up quickly, but he had just entered adolescence and it would be decades before reaching maturity.
