Chapter 1439: Chapter 1439: The Highly Anticipated News
"An Hao, quickly answer the phone," Zhang Yun urged as she hurried out of the bedroom upon hearing the ringing phone.
Yet, she saw An Hao standing still, staring straight at the phone in a daze, as if she were frozen in place.
"An Hao? Aren’t you going to answer the phone? What’s wrong?" Zhang Yun asked, puzzled.
"Oh!" An Hao suddenly snapped back to reality, put down the vegetable basket, and hurriedly walked forward. Clenching her teeth, she answered the phone, "Hello?"
Her voice was tentative and carried an almost imperceptible quiver.
She feared the call might bring her some bad news, news she couldn’t handle.
"An Hao? What’s wrong with your voice?" The voice on the other end of the phone was familiar, not from the military, but from the hospital.
"Teacher Yan! You nearly scared me to death!" An Hao let out a long sigh of relief upon recognizing Yan Ye’s voice, no news being the best news.
Yan Ye chuckled softly, "Since when did you become so faint-hearted? Scared by a phone call!"
An Hao also chuckled, but didn’t share the true source of her anxiety with Yan Ye.
"Teacher Yan, did you call me for something?" An Hao asked.
"One piece of good news and one bad," he replied, "Which do you want to hear first?"
An Hao hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "Let’s start with the bad news."
"You haven’t been to school in a long time. Now that you have given birth and have some time, you should visit. If you don’t, the school’s administration is likely to actually discipline you. Your leave is already over," Yan Ye said.
During An Hao’s absence from school, he had kept an eye on everything related to her.
"Thank you, Teacher Yan. You’re always taking care of things for me," An Hao said gratefully.
"There’s no need for thanks. We’re friends, after all. Besides, you’ve become friends with Huanhuan too; she often urges me to keep an eye on the school situation for you. She knows you’ve been wanting to return to classes and internships," he explained.
"Mhm." An Hao smiled gently, "Actually, Yan Huan is kind-hearted despite her sharp tongue. You get to know she truly looks out for her friends after spending some time with her."
"That’s great. I’m genuinely happy to see you two turn from foes to friends," Yan Ye said, his tone light.
"By the way, what’s the good news?" An Hao asked eagerly.
"That thing you’ve been looking forward to," Yan Ye paused for a couple of seconds, "If you have time, come to the hospital. The patient has woken up."
"What?" An Hao’s heart surged with excitement, "You mean the patient who has been in a coma since the gallstone surgery?"
"Yes, that’s the one!" Yan Ye affirmed, "He woke up just now!"
"That’s wonderful! It’s really wonderful!" An Hao nearly burst into tears, "The day of truth has finally come, and I can finally expose Ma Mei’s hypocrisy. I’ve shouldered the blame for so long; now I can finally return it to her."
"Yes! We’re all happy for you! Ji Chuan is so moved he’s on the verge of tears," Yan Ye said with a light laugh.
"Tears? Why? Is it because the investigation has been so tough lately, and he’s happy with the results?" An Hao asked.
"No, it’s because he said you could finally come back! His most dependable, most willing-to-be-squeezed assistant is returning."
