Taba Xuanwu reached out and grabbed the large golden bow on the bow stand. Then, he spun it twice in his hands.
The golden bow that weighed like a mountain seemed as light as a feather in his hands.
The next moment, Taba Xuanwu gripped the bow with his left hand and grabbed an arrow with his right. He then nocked the golden bow and slowly pulled the bowstring.
As the golden bow bent further and further, it began to shine a powerful golden light. The arrow had burst into flames as well.
When the bow was fully drawn like a full moon, the golden light was painting the sky gold, and the red flame had covered the ground completely.
Finally, Taba Xuanwu released his fingers, and the bow snapped like a thunderclap. Infinite golden light wrapped in ferocious fire shot toward the west.
After shooting the first arrow, Taba Xuanwu suddenly half-crouched and pointed the bow toward the sky. Then, he grabbed another arrow and loosed it at the sun and the moon.
It sounded like he was taking his time, but it really all happened in a flash. In fact, the first arrow had just left the bow string when he nocked the second arrow to it, pulled, and released it as well.
The third arrow followed just as swiftly. It was followed by the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth arrow.
In just the blink of an eye, he loosed ten arrows into the heavens.
The nine arrows after the first wasn’t nearly as magnificent or potent as the first. In fact, they looked like nothing special at all.
However, shooting them seemed to completely exhaust the golden bow. It had turned dim and ordinary-looking.
Taba Xuanwu gave a casual toss, and the golden bow landed squarely on the bow stand.
This time though, the nine men carrying the bow stand did not move a muscle. It was as if they couldn’t feel any weight at all; as if the golden bow had truly become as light as a feather.
That was the truth. After the bow was returned to the bow stand, the nine men turned around and strode away with light, swift footsteps.
The nine men had just left when Taba Xuanwu’s stomach suddenly rumbled like a thunderstorm.
“Ah, dammit. This stupid Sun Shooting Bow uses up way too much energy. I can’t believe I’m hungry again.”
Taba Xuanwu rubbed his belly in annoyance before yelling, “Bring me more liquor and meat!”
As soon as he finished, a dozen armored soldiers carried another pot of Nine Suns Brew and a roasted Dragon Mountain Bull in front of him.
“You may leave.”
Taba Xuanwu dug into the meal voraciously as soon as the armored soldiers had set down the meal.
This time though, his table manners were slightly better. He did not devour the pot of liquor in two gulps or the bull in three.
“Invincible under the Half-Sage stage, huh? Let’s see if you are worthy of the title!”
While eating his meat and drinking his wine, Taba Xuanwu gazed toward the distant horizon with eyes full of fighting spirit.
......
A wild plain lay just beyond Cloud Hue Pass.
Although it was a wild plain, it was actually covered in traffic right now.
The large majority of these people were merchants who had come to Cloud Hue Pass to do business. As there were no gangs or sects inside Cloud Hue Pass, nor were there any chaos or slaughter, it was a refuge for many people who lost their homes for one reason or another.
Because of this, Cloud Hue Pass enjoyed a larger population than most. A larger population meant bigger consumption of goods and services, so it was only natural that the merchants came to Cloud Hue Pass looking for profit.
Every day, countless merchants and carts traveled to and fro the wild plain outside Cloud Hue Pass. It was quite lively.
“Look! What is that?”
Suddenly, a magical, astounding sight caught everyone’s attention.
The sky had turned golden and red for some reason.
The gold was infinite light, and the red was burning fire.
Together, they looked like a divine dragon who was soaring the nine heavens. Its appearance was magnificent, and its power shook the nine firmaments.
For a time, everyone on the plain turned white as a sheet and felt difficulty breathing. Their hearts were pounding, and their consciousness threatened to fade into black.
There was one person who looked exactly the same as he was before though, complexion healthy and eyes clear. He looked at the dazzling, all-encompassing blend of gold and red light covering the sky and let out a small sigh. “What must come, must come.”
“Taba Xuanwu...”
The person was Ye Qing, of course.
Yesterday, after he took out the Thirteen Undying Renegade Bandits with one punch, he had spent a night at Cloud Hue Old Road before departing for Cloud Hue Pass first thing in the morning.
He already knew that Taba Xuanwu would attack him then. He learned from the information he robbed from the Westwind Inn that Zhao Changming and Taba Xuanwu had fought side by side before and so shared a certain level of camaraderie with each other. Taba Xuanwu himself was described to be tyrannical, protective of his own, vengeful, and warlike. Therefore, from the moment he killed Zhao Changming, he knew there would be a fight between himself and Taba Xuanwu. It might even be a fight to the death.
However, he had not come to fight Taba Xuanwu on purpose. He was just passing through the area.
He wanted to travel east, and passing through Cloud Hue Pass was the simplest and fastest way.
So, he came.
He knew that Cloud Hue Pass was Taba Xuanwu’s territory.
He also knew that Taba Xuanwu would never let him go.
Still, he came because he feared nothing and no one.
Ye Qing’s response toward the rushing, sky-blotting light of gold and red was to stop in his tracks, and blow.
The golden light possessed no form, but the puff of air scattered it all into nothing.
The blazing fire possessed no shape, but the puff of air caused it to roll back in reverse.
And so the merchants on the plain were treated to yet another stunning sight.
They saw the dazzling golden light disintegrating inch by inch, and the blazing flame rolling back in reverse before scattering to the wind.
In just a moment, both the golden light and the crimson flame were no more. It happened so fast it felt like a dream.
After that, a crimson arrow fell from the sky and landed in front of Ye Qing’s feet. It then broke crisply into several pieces.
“Is that all?”
Ye Qing could not help but frown at this. The arrow shot seemed extremely impressive, but its bark was by far the better of its bite. Forget him, any Great Trueman or Great Grandmaster could have blocked it with ease.
This could not possibly be Taba Xuanwu’s normal level.
Suddenly, Ye Qing sensed something and looked up at the sky. Realization struck him as he muttered, “I see.”
“This first shot is just a greeting.”
“Look! The sky... the sky...”
“What’s going on? How are there nine suns in the sky?”
“Nine... suns? How is this possible?”
“It’s... hot! It’s burning hot!”
......
It was at this moment the people on the plain cried out in shock once more. It was because nine suns had suddenly appeared in the sky.
Right now, nine golden suns were hanging high in the air and casting its hot rays across the realm. It was as dazzling as it was scorching.
Worse, the nine suns were only growing brighter and hotter over time. Everyone’s eyes were hurting, and they felt like they were boiling alive inside a furnace.
“It’s hot... it’s so hot... it’s so hot I can die...”
“Run! We need to run, now!”
The people scattered in every direction like rabbits as they panicked.
“Look! The suns are falling!”
When the nine suns had reached maximum brightness, they abruptly fell toward the plain.
Space distorted, plants died, snow melted, lakes dried, and the earth split apart.
It was like the ancient times where a divine being shot the sun, and the sun fell off the nine firmaments. Mountains and rivers were destroyed because of it.
