Chapter 905: Nine hundred and three, shopping
The application jointly submitted by the Guard’s Wives was quickly approved. In just a few days, the Guard District arranged a teacher for the Guard’s Wives.
Sitting in the temporary classroom, the Guard’s Wives awaited the teacher’s arrival with both nervousness and anticipation. It was then that they truly understood what it felt like to become a student.
"I wonder if the teacher is male or female, and whether they are strict."
"What should I do if I’m feeling nervous?"
"Me too, it’s like being a bride sitting in a sedan chair for the first time. I wasn’t even this nervous getting married."
"Exactly, no wonder my kid is afraid of the teacher. The teacher isn’t even here yet and my heart is already pounding."
"I heard from my daughter that teachers sometimes hit people with a cane."
"Let’s stop talking, the teacher is coming," shouted one of the Guard’s Wives, who had been keeping an eye on the outside, turning to alert the others.
Hearing this, the Guard’s Wives quickly straightened up, but their eyes were all fixed on the classroom door, filled with nervousness and anticipation.
Right now, they felt a tinge of fear, yet also a bit of excitement and thrill, emotions that were hard to describe with words.
Footsteps approached, and a tall, young woman with long hair, glasses, and books in hand walked into the classroom.
The young woman placed her books on the desk, picked up a piece of chalk from the chalk box, turned around, and swiftly wrote her name on the blackboard, "Hello everyone! My name is Li Qiqi."
"Hello, Teacher Li!" the Guard’s Wives shouted in unison. Their envious gazes remained on the blackboard; although they could not understand the writing on it, they could tell that it was beautifully written. They all cherished the hope that one day they too could use a piece of chalk to write their own names on the blackboard.
Li Qiqi smiled at the Guard’s Wives, tossed the chalk back into the chalk box, clapped the chalk dust off her hands, and picked up the attendance book that was placed alongside the books, saying, "Now I’m going to take attendance. Just say ’present’ when you hear your name."
She opened the attendance book in her hand and began to call the names, "Wang Qiuying, Lin Jufang, Zhang Xiulan, Fang Xiaojing..."
"Present!"
"Present!" The Guard’s Wives responded one by one. Perhaps because Li Qiqi did not look very stern, the nervousness in their hearts had vanished, leaving only excitement, eagerness, and anticipation. They looked forward to learning to recognize characters soon.
Luo Shu pushed a baby stroller, taking a walk in the Guard’s Members Courtyard. Since most of the Guard’s Wives were attending the literacy class, the courtyard had become much quieter. The usual sight of groups of women chatting about each other’s lives was now rarely seen.
"Luo Shu!" Lin Helian ran up to Luo Shu with a delighted face.
"Sister Yhan, are you off work today?" Luo Shu smiled. It was rare for her to encounter Lin Helian; since her return, she had only met her twice.
"Yes, I got two movie tickets yesterday. Let’s go see it together. I’ll help you carry one of the babies later," Lin Helian said happily as she took out two movie tickets. She had been recognized as an outstanding worker for her excellent job performance, and these tickets were her reward.
"I’d rather not go. You can go with Chief Yhan when he’s off duty," Luo Shu said. She wasn’t really interested in watching movies.
"But the tickets expire today; if we don’t use them now, they’ll go to waste. Just accompany me, it would be such a shame for them to be wasted," Lin Helian pleaded with Luo Shu, her face full of hope. In fact, Yhan Zhan was on leave today, but as this award was her first honor, she wanted to share it with Luo Shu. If not for Luo Shu, she would never have found the job at the sales point. After joining the sales point, she realized how stringent the requirements were to enter.
"Alright!" Luo Shu thought for a moment and then agreed. She hadn’t taken the babies out for a street stroll yet, so this was a good opportunity to do so.
"Luo Shu, shouldn’t you send the baby stroller back first?" Seeing Luo Shu head towards the parking lot, Lin Helian asked in surprise.
"We’ll drive ourselves, and can put the baby stroller in the back of the car," Luo Shu said, already pushing the baby stroller toward the parking lot.
Once they arrived at the city center, as the movie wasn’t starting until 2 p.m., Luo Shu and Lin Helian started strolling the streets.
Initially, Luo Shu intended to push the baby stroller, but Lin Helian suggested that it would be more convenient if they each carried a baby, so Luo Shu didn’t take the stroller out.
"How much for this rattle-drum?" Lin Helian stopped at a stall, picked up a rattle-drum, shook it a couple of times, and put it into the hands of the little brother in her arms.
"Fifty cents each," the stall owner said cheerily.
"I’ll take two." Lin Helian handed over a dollar to the owner and picked up another rattle-drum, passing it to the little sister in Luo Shu’s arms.
Luo Shu didn’t try to pay, nor did she make a point of being overly courteous with Lin Helian; she understood the intent behind Lin Helian’s actions.
The two babies shook their rattle-drums, thoroughly enjoying themselves. There were a lot of toys in their space, but they preferred playing with Xiao Bai and Xiao Hei, or practicing their kung fu.
Luo Shu and Lin Helian, carrying the two babies, strolled down the street, while the babies constantly looked around curiously, their eyes filled with wonder.
Around noon, the four of them arrived at a wonton shop.
"This is a centuries-old brand in Jiangzhou; I’ve heard the wontons here are delicious," Lin Helian said. She had learned about this place from her colleagues.
After finding a seat, Lin Helian put the little brother on her lap and handed the menu to Luo Shu, asking, "Luo Shu, what do you want to order?"
"I’ll have a bowl of wontons. What about you?" Luo Shu glanced at the menu and turned to Lin Helian.
"I’m not sure, maybe I’ll have the same," Lin Helian said as she was about to stand up, but saw Luo Shu already signaling the waiter.
"Two bowls of wontons," said Luo Shu to the waiter.
