Chapter 156: Chapter 156

- KILLIAN -

“On second thought,” I start, kneading a finger on Hazel’s palm, talking to Owen. “I’d rather we have a discussion later, old friend.” I say, gritting my teeth.

Asami only does what she’s supposed to do? Is he trying to let me know that if something transpired while I was gone, he was involved as well? After all, he murdered two of my men. I let out a suppressed exhale.

I’ll never forgive him for this, even though I want to. He must be held accountable for his actions and I’ll make sure of it.

Owen laughs, majestically as always, a short laugh. “You don’t trust me, I see.” He jests.

“You? I do,” You have some decency. “But her,” I lower my gaze to Asami. “Her I do not.” My eyes fall on Hazel. Plus, Asami’s presence here is making my woman feel uncomfortable, it’ll be unwise to leave just the two of them alone on this table. And only God knows how long our discussion will take.

Owen spreads his arms out, cocking his head to a side as a half smile paints his lips. “If you insist.” He’s being overly calm. I guess that’s a good thing aside from the fact that I’m tempted to punch his fucking brains out and cause a scene but that will only make Hazel more terrified and I that’s the last thing I want.

“Please, excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.” Hazel gushes softly, standing up from her seat. She leaves before I could even say a word. I let my eyes trail her every move, down to when she approached a staff probably to ask for directions, till her form wasn’t in sight anymore.

Now that she’s gone. . . “Did you do anything to her while I was gone, Asami?” I ask, my tone harsh.

Asami chuckles. “You talk to everyone else calmly till it’s me.”

“What can I say, not everyone actually deserves to be treated nicely.”

She sighs, leaning back into the seat. “And what could I have possibly done? Hm? Tell me.” She smiles, looking up to stare at me. Her body is gestured forward with her head pointed at me like she’s waiting for a response. I gave none. “Exactly. So accusing me is low.”

My gaze flickers from her to Owen then back to her again.

She laughs. “Believe it or not Killian but the world doesn’t revolve around you two. Your insufferable ass can’t seem to understand that although fake, she and I were. . .” Asami takes a pause. “Friends.” She snickers after. Even that sounds funny.

“Is that paranoia I sense?” Owen interjects causing my attention to be undivided on him. “If you can’t make your girl happy, don’t cast blames, Killian. It’s not very you.”

I scoff. He’s either dumb as fuck for believing Asami blindly or he’s being coy. Could be either.

“I’ll let you know one thing, Owen.” I utter. By this time, my fingers are already sore due to the vigorous way they’ve been rummaging around the zippo. “Murdering my men is one thing, going after the woman I love is another.” Our gazes are hard on each other, both of us sharing hateful glances. “If even for a second I discover that you two are involved in the minutest thing that causes her smile to dwindle,” I take a pause. “To put it subtly, you’ll seize to exist.”

His smirk widens. “You’re a man of your word. I’m not interested in children’s game.” This lets me know he’s aware of Hazel’s age. Someone has been doing some research.

“Good.” I plaster my eyes on Asami. “And this goes for the two of you. I don’t care who does the fishy act. I will cut you both out of the face of the earth faster than you left your mothers’ wombs.” The sound of finger nails tapping a hard surface slid into my ears as Asami clonks each finger from left to right one after the other on the table.

“You underestimate us, Killian.” Owen remarks. “And you certainly undermine our loyalty to S.”

If I wasn’t already aware that S knows about Hazel’s existence, that message would have come as a shocker. What They knows though? That is something I’m yet to uncover.

“It’s not you I’m worried about.” I say to him, still keeping my focus on Asami. “You’re not the fox amongst us.”

Asami rolls her eyes to my words. There is something I don’t know about that she’s involved in and that somehow may link to why Hazel was stricken the moment she was sat across this table even though I was present at first to witness this. Asami and Hazel aren’t and never will be friends. frёewebηovel.cѳm

“Now that this is past us, let’s dine.” Owen states.

“Not with us.”

“Oh come on now, surely we can have a meal together. It’s been what I know as ‘decades’ since we’ve had one.” It’s not been more than a decade but okay.

“If you think you can swoon me, you’re definitely not in your right mind.”

He breaths a short sigh. “Believe it or not but I still love you, man. Past grudges aside, which you will account for gradually.” His stare becomes cold as he says the last word. That playful look drastically returns. “But right now? I’m famished.”

Asami has been quiet.

“Whatever Hazel decides is what I’ll settle on.” I say to him. I’ve given my answer and I’m not changing it, but who knows? She may be okay with it which I highly doubt and I hope she declines the offer as well.

“Then I guess that’s my ticket to win her over. She’s coming.” Owen acts so carefree when in reality, he’s not. He’s indifferent to a lot of things and one word to describe him? It’s deadly. Yet he keeps his composure better than anyone else I know. His rage, his fear, his weaknesses, he hides them all and although someone would think he has no emotion of such sort, I’ve know him long enough to say he does.

Point of correction, I had known him. Now I don’t know the man he has become throughout those years.

I retrace my gaze backwards to the lady approaching us. Owen walks to her before she arrives at our table. “Do us a favour and stay quiet during this meal if we indeed have one.” I tell Asami without taking my eyes off the two of them before me. “And this is not a request, Asami.” I declare.

She hasn’t said a word. Good. She knows when to shut up.

“Please, the weather is warm, let me help you.” I hear Owen say from a distance as he reaches out to take Hazel’s coat. The reason why I haven’t stepped in yet is because I’m observing her reaction to being near him. This gives a good leverage on a lead to who is actually the object of her earlier fright.

Hazel resists but Owen is being persistent. He finally takes her jacket off, half way down her arms before stopping. My brows furrow when I notice the plaster on her shoulder.

Owen takes a good look at it then at me. His expression changed. For someone who usually has his shit together, I can see the fury in his gaze.

I swear on my life that I would never lay a finger on Hazel to leave her wounded.

He pulls the jacket back on her arms, backing away with that smile again. From his body language, can tell he’s apologising for over stepping boundaries by taking off her jacket. If Owen’s reaction to seeing that on Hazel’s arm was that, then it’s obvious he shouldn’t be against her wellbeing.

It’s one thing to lie that she generated an injury via cooking, I wonder what lie she’d tell me this time. I return my gaze to Asami.

They’re closer to our table so I can’t say anything that’ll be perceived as a threat in Hazel’s ears.

“Oh, and Asami,” I say, my voice low. “What I said about burying you if you laid a hand on her, that wasn’t a bluff.” I let go of my zippo and turn to face Asami. Both my hands are dug in my pocket.

Hazel stands by my side. I adjust to let her sit comfortably.

“We’ll be leaving.” Owen murmurs to me. That’ll be best. He turns to face Asami. “Let’s go.”

“I’ll meet you later.” I say.

“Bet on it.” He responds.

“Now, where were we?” I ask, looking at Hazel as Owen and Asami back away. “Oh yes, we were about to feed your craving.”
