Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 88: The Voice Within the Meteorite
Chapter 88: Chapter 88: The Voice Within the Meteorite
The scenery on the walls didn’t look like images or videos playing on a video player, they were similar to those virtual reality games developed to give players a realistic feeling.
Lu Zhen seemed to have understood her thoughts and explained, "This is a holographic immersive projection. There was a proposal to develop something like this in the past two years but the current technology isn’t mature enough.
So there hasn’t been any progress so far."
Leng Pan was surprised to hear that.
"So you mean this is a futuristic technology that hasn’t been developed yet?" Leng Pan asked with a surprised expression and a higher pitched voice.
She had not expected this to be future technology. It was quite impressive.
However, before Lu Zhen could reply, that voice echoed again, "This is not future technology, it is ancient technology."
That surprised even Lu Zhen who had a steady mind. How could ancient technology be more advanced than current technology?
The term ancient meant that hundreds or even thousands of years had already passed. How did this advanced technology even disappear and somehow appear inside a jade bangle?
Leng Pan, feeling that the voice was friendly to her, asked the question, "Then how come it’s more advanced than the current technology?"
However, although the voice was still friendly, it didn’t answer her question. Instead it said something that confused the husband and wife even more.
"Memory awakening required to access that information."
"What do you mean ’memory awakening required to access this information’?" Leng Pan asked out of confusion and curiosity.
"Commander Leng needs to trigger the sealed memories to access more information. I can’t say more, so don’t ask. Those were your instructions." The voice added after replying to Leng Pan.
This time it wasn’t just a surprise, there was bewilderment and some fear. What does that even mean?
From the certain tone of the voice it was obvious that it was sure the person it was talking about was really Leng Pan. But she didn’t understand how she was connected to this ancient technology.
"Don’t think too much about it. We’ll figure out everything eventually." Lu Zhen, seeing how lost his wife looked, hugged her close to his chest and comforted her.
"Mmm..." Leng Pan hummed and took a deep breath. She shouldn’t overthink things. That won’t help.
After a while, they let go of each other and went back to holding hands.
They walked to the center of the room where a holographic-like coffee table was and the meteorite they had taken was sitting on top of it.
It was still the same on the outside but for some reason they could hear something like a quiet hum coming from the inside.
This really didn’t look like a normal meteorite at all.
Walking closer, Leng Pan could feel a deeper connection with the water element. Some water droplets started to condense and float in mid air as if caught in zero gravity.
This was a new phenomenon that even the original Leng Pan in the book didn’t experience when she was at her most powerful.
She wondered if she could use these water droplets and followed along by controlling her ability and the droplets turned into a blade.
Before she could study the blade further it changed from a water blade to an ice blade. For the first time Leng Pan realized that she could use the water and humidity in her surroundings to her advantage.
She could not only control water, but her superpower had mutated to the point that it had become elemental. She was slowly evolving into an elemental manipulator.
This meant that she didn’t need to create her own water to create weapons or defense. She could just use the water around her.
She figured that if she was near a water body such as a lake, river, ocean, or simply a water source, she would be unstoppable. But she needed a lot of practice.
She waved the ice blade around and even without using too much energy or strength, she could feel its sharpness almost slicing the air around them.
This was a deadly weapon.
Moreover, the fact that the water blade had turned into an ice blade without any conscious effort from Leng Pan showed that she had awakened the ability to control both the temperature and structure of water.
This means that if she wanted to produce or turn the water molecules in the air into hot water, she probably could. If she wanted to turn it into an ice bath, she could do that too. And if she wanted to turn it into snow flakes, that was possible as well.
With enough practice, she believed that she could become more versatile with many ways of attack and defense.
Lu Zhen had been standing aside watching his wife experiment with her newfound ability mutation when all of a sudden he sneezed.
It wasn’t loud or anything. Just a light sneeze as if something feathery had touched his nose.
However, that sneeze brought about new changes.
He had sneezed flames. Yes, flames came shooting out of his nostrils like a fire dragon. At least, that’s what legends say.
When the flames hit the ice sword, it turned hot as magma steam in the air. Both of them could feel the temperature of that steam and it would peel off skin and flesh to the bone if someone touched it.
At that moment, the thing that Leng Pan thought she hadn’t caught before became clear. When they were escaping the zombie encirclement after taking the meteorite earlier, Lu Zhen had used his fire to cover them and when the zombies felt the temperature, they moved away.
This was something that even the zombies that don’t seem to feel pain were afraid of. It had to be more than just fire and water.
She would experiment another day when they go out.
Seeing the steam in front of them the two backed away fast but then witnessed another scene of something like cool steam come out of thin air and contain it then it disappeared again.
Both the steam and the cool mist were gone without a trace. How could anyone call this ancient technology? This was clearly something from hundreds of years into the future!
Leng Pan turned to look at Lu Zhen and asked what had happened, but even he didn’t know.
"I don’t know what’s happening, but my power core is very overactive." Lu Zhen said.
The power core was something like the zombie crystal core found in awakened human beings and used to store their energy. It is found near the heart and somehow seemed to be in rhythm with the heartbeat.
Lu Zhen sat down and began to meditate to try and control the fire that seemed to want to escape from his core.
After some time, it calmed down and he channelled energy into his hand to try and form a flame.
To his surprise, something unexpected happened. The color of his flame started to alternate from the usual crimson-purple to deep blue.
He could feel that the crimson-purple version was so hot it could melt steel. The deep blue on the other hand seemed to create a vacuum; a controlled vacuum.
He couldn’t understand what this meant but he knew that his superpower had mutated again, just like Leng Pan’s.
Moreover, from the reaction they had seen caused by the collision of the ice blade and his flames, it was obvious that they could work together to create a duo-technique that could cause more damage compared to individual attacks.
If they practiced and successfully created such a technique, facing stronger enemies would not be too much of a challenge.
After finding this meteorite, they both understood that things were not as simple as they seemed. Something bigger was yet to come.
As the two of them were marveling at the changes in their superpowers, they heard a soft and distant voice that seemed to be transmitted through the meteorite.
They strained their ears to hear what was being said.
