Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Unreasonable Expectations

In fact, Li Yunjia, just like many others had not thought about going out to fight or kill zombies. People still had the mentality of leaving anything they deemed as difficult for the government to solve.

Unfortunately, the zombie problem is not something the government could help them with. Now they had supplies at home and could still live comfortably for a while. But what about when they ran out of food? Could they still stay cooped up in the house and not leave to look for food? Of course not. That is the time they would realize that they had to go out and scavenge for supplies while fighting zombies.

Now, however, Li Yunjia only cared about making body suits for her family that would allow them to regulate their temperature.

"Okay, I’ll take everyone’s measurements first then start making the clothes. Let’s start with you Panpan."

Leng Pan had no objections to her mother-in-law’s suggestions. She stood up and let her use a tape measure to take down her measurements and once she was done, Lu Zhen followed suit.

Once they had their measurements taken, the two urged Lu Tao to work harder and went back to their apartment.

"How is your progress so far?" Leng Pan asked Lu Zhen as soon as they were inside the apartment.

"Not bad. I can now produce a fireball the size of a tennis ball. It’s a little tiring, but it’s an improvement from the peanut-sized fireballs I was making this morning." Lu Zhen replied as he pulled her into his arms and hugged her.

He found himself unable to resist holding her whenever she was close to him. She had almost become the air he breathed and he knew that he could no longer live without her.

Taking a deep breath, he inhaled her scent into his lungs and somehow felt refreshed. He didn’t understand why, but he felt the fatigue caused by his constant practicing that morning dissipate completely.

She was indeed his recharging system. Closing his eyes, he enjoyed the peaceful moment with the woman he cherished more than life in his arms. He vowed that he would grow stronger and protect her from any harm. He would not let a repeat of their previous lives happen.

Leng Pan could feel the shift in Lu Zhen’s emotions and just stood there and circled her arms around his waist. She leaned against his chest and listened to his powerful heartbeat, which, for some reason, gave her a sense of security.

Listening to his heart beating so powerfully against her ears, she came to a realization that even though she had transmigrated into a book, the people here were not paper people. They were real humans with flesh and blood. They could breathe, their hearts could beat, they could feel pain and grief, and they could also die.

At that moment, she seemed to have realized that she was in a world similar to where she came from. Then she remembered that feeling she had earlier that morning.

Was this really a world created by a book or was it a real parallel world? Why did she have that feeling earlier? As if she belonged here in the first place?

She couldn’t come up with an answer so she stopped thinking about it. She would enjoy this life, even through the apocalypse, and protect the people she cared about.

She had to protect this powerful heartbeat and ensure that it never stops beating.

She tightened her arms around Lu Zhen’s waist causing him to stop his action of pulling away.

He had realized that Leng Pan was getting more used to him, and was becoming more comfortable around him. For him, this was the best news. He wanted her to be so dependent on him that she couldn’t live without him.

Even though they were married and she had even given herself to him, he was still a little insecure. Especially since he knew that they had lived several years through the apocalypse in their previous lives and she never accepted his love. Now, even though she was the one who had even suggested getting married, he still felt afraid.

Letting go of Lu Zhen’s waist, Leng Pan raised her head and asked him to show her his current fireball. She wanted to see how far he had gone.

That morning, she had forgotten to give him some spiritual spring water to help replenish his energy once exhausted.

"Let’s go to the bathroom. My control is not perfect yet. I don’t want to burn the house down." Lu Zhen suggested as he took her hand and headed to the bathroom in the master bedroom.

Once inside, he let go of his wife’s hand and walked to stand next to the bathtub. It was filled with water so that he could use it to extinguish the fire in case of an emergency where he lost control, and the fireball fell.

He stretched his hand, and a fireball the size of a tennis ball indeed appeared in his hand.

This time, Leng Pan can see the structure of the fireball clearly. It had a deep crimson color with the center being purple. The bathroom was not as hot as it had been that morning when Lu Zhen first summoned his flames. It looked like he had learned to control the range of the heat produced by the flames.

This was real progress. With only the limited information she had provided, he could manage such precise control. Geniuses were indeed geniuses no matter what they did.

"Your control has improved a lot." She commented as she looked up to face Lu Zhen.

Lu Zhen was happy to be praised by his wife and smiled as he extinguished the flames.

"I still need to work harder and improve my control. I noticed that the bigger the flames, the more difficult it is to control them. Once I have mastered the controlling technique, I won’t have a problem creating bigger flames."
