Return of the General's Daughter-Chapter 204: Prince of Northem 2
Chapter 204: Prince of Northem 2
"Your Highness..." A towering figure, broad-shouldered and imposing, stepped forward, clad in a brown tunic. He trailed the man who wore a rich red garment with a fur lining and embroidered details. His dark purple brocade cloak billowed majestically behind him.
Just by his clothes that screamed opulence, Lara surmised that the man must be a prince. His hair was like ebony with a fringe on the left covering a fourth of his forehead. It was wavy, short at the front, exposing both his ears, but long at the back. He possessed a certain rugged charm, with chiseled features and a confident demeanor that turned heads. His eyebrows were shaped like a sword, and his eyes were brown. Well, it wasn’t as intense as that of Alaric, where one who dared to peep could drown in the twin obsidian pools.
He was a handsome man in a sense, but not as handsome as that man.
’Heck! What am I even thinking?’ Lara chided herself.
"Miss, why aren’t you showing respect to the prince?" The man who towered over glared at Lara. His eyebrows were drawn together, creating a furrow across his forehead.
Lara clenched her fists when she started hearing murmurs around her.
"How dare she be so arrogant!"
"Who is she, and why did she suddenly appear?"
"Do you think she’s here to seduce the prince?"
"But the prince is here with his favorite concubine. What could she do?"
The big bear of a man continued to glower at her. Lara raised an eyebrow but ultimately decided to curtsy. She sensed that the guard next to the prince might grab her and force her to kneel if she refused to show respect.
She stepped forward with her right foot, bent on both knees slightly, and lowered her head.
"Your highness..." She said indifferently, then she raised her head and met the man’s deep gaze.
She wasn’t interested in the prince, so she shifted her focus to the guard standing beside the royalty.
The prince narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips in a thin line. ’Did she ignore me? How dare she!’
The prince’s gaze lingered on her a little bit longer. She was a beauty to behold, skin so smooth and supple. It was not overly fair, nor shiny, but had a subtle glow that he thought of the light colored honey he had on his tea the other day—acacia honey.
Her eyes... damn, he never saw such expressive eyes before. He also had brown eyes, but how come her shade was so different that he couldn’t take his eyes off hers?
"I am looking for General Alaric Kromwel," Lara said, her voice calm and collected. She consciously chose to refer to him by his military rank, deliberately omitting the honorific "His Highness." She just followed her gut feel.
The huge guard looked at the prince, who had his jaw clenched and had a stern, scowling expression. The guard swallowed. His prince was displeased.
A middle-aged man stepped forward, though he distanced himself from the prince. He looked like a nobleman. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"What business do you have with General Alaric?" He asked, giving Lara a sly and lascivious look, eyes filled with desire so raw Lara could feel him undressing her, especially when his gaze hovered over her chest. Lara was disgusted.
"Old man," Lara said in a chilly voice, "Be careful where your eyes look, or you might go blind."
Laughter suddenly rang in the room, followed by catcalls.
"Donald, you got a feisty little one there."
The prince looked back and glared.
Silence descended in the room.
Lara quickly scanned the room, noting that there were a few more nobles and a lot of soldiers. She recognized two of them as the generals who were with her father when she delivered the message as Kane.
What are they doing here? Are these the people whom Alaric brought to replace the displaced officials in Calma?
The man with a receding hairline, who was addressed as Donald, realized belatedly that he was insulted, or rather threatened.
"How dare you?" he yelled.
Lara did not flinch. She stood there, steadfast and calm. Her back was straight, and her head held high. It irked the man even more. How dare she, a lowly woman, defy him, an Earl?
The man raised his hand and was about to slap Lara when a cold voice from the back caused his hand to freeze mid-air.
"If you still like your hand, don’t dare harm my guest."
Alaric strode forward, his steps steady, and his aura emanated danger. The Earl, Donald, scampered away and tried to minimize his presence.
Alaric stood beside the prince, and the difference in their height became noticeable. Alaric was half a head taller than the other prince.
His lips pursed into a thin line when he noticed how Lara was dressed. He would rather that she dress as Kane Mendel instead of the lovely blue dress she was currently wearing. It could not match the elaborate clothes of his brother’s concubine, whom he brought along with him. But its simplicity highlighted her beauty even more. It wasn’t body-hugging, but the fabric was soft, so it outlined her curves, especially her twin mounds. He was used to seeing her flat chest, but now, even he, an ice block, could not help but let his gaze stray a little longer on her bosom.
"Brother, aren’t you going to introduce your guest to me?" the prince finally spoke, his voice smooth and carrying a charm that demanded attention.
And Lara did look at him, a second longer.
Alaric pursed his lips as he stared at Lara and ignored the man beside him.
"Well, brother?" the prince intentionally modulated his voice, making it sound more sexy. He thought that the woman before him would surely swoon at him like the others.
But how wrong he was.
Lara shifted her gaze to Alaric, her eyes bright, and her face had the most dazzling smile he had ever seen, and his heart skipped a beat.
"I did not know you had visitors, your highness. I should have come another time." Lara uttered, sounding apologetic.
The frown on Alaric’s forehead disappeared, and his gaze softened.
"This is?" Lara turned to the other prince, whose scowl appeared even more pronounced.
Silence hung in the air for a full minute.
"Ah, I guess I will have to introduce myself, as my brother seemed unwilling. I am Reuben, the Second Prince of Northem."
