Chapter 91: Man vs Cat

So he grinned widely and said to Nero, "Shut your mouth and get inside."

"I see you want to rage-bait me. Have fun while you can," the cat said, entering the arena.

"Wait, what’s going on?" asked one of the students.

"Is he going to fight someone?"

"Maybe he is waiting for us to challenge him?"

"But what is that unsightly beast doing here?"

Various assumptions could be heard, but no one could imagine that Nero would be his opponent.

Not even the supervisor guessed, and he was surprised when Jung asked for permission.

The man darted his eyes in confusion but agreed nonetheless.

Both of them stood at the centre of the arena, and only now the onlookers inferred what he had planned.

However, he didn’t listen to them and put great effort into studying Nero and her approach to the battle.

Based on how serious she appeared, Jung could tell this fight would be the toughest one so far.

Yet, he was thrilled, his heart beating faster than ever, his lungs filling with air, and his blood surged wildly.

"Don’t hold back," Jung warned five seconds before the fight began.

"Make me!" the cat answered, sighing as if she was doing a chore.

Then the teacher gave the signal, and Jung dashed, leaving his previous position.

His speed was augmented by the Shifting Cloud mutation and every archetype he had unleashed.

One second had been enough for him to appear before Nero and swing his axe, which was two times bigger than usual.

The cat didn’t move, but her eyes saw everything, and just as his weapon was upon her small frame, dark pillars were formed between the two.

Jung was completely blocked, and his hands trembled from the collision.

Not losing his momentum, he sidestepped right away, and other pillars were dropped in his place.

Nothing would have remained of him if he stayed for even a second, and it was his time to attack again.

There was no Shadow Star in the picture; Nero didn’t ask for it either, and the battle became faster and deadlier with each passing second.

Quickly realizing how nerfed he truly was after seeing Nero’s flashy abilities, he sensed the entire arena, and time slowed in his perception.

He darted back and forward, dodging her every attempt to flatten him to the ground, and reached her once again.

As his axe cut the air and aimed to do the same for the cat, Jung touched her shadow, and his centre of gravity flipped as a result.

His brain became foggy, and his legs wobbled for a moment.

Yet, he didn’t stop, and bringing his arms closer to the edge, he stormed towards the cat.

With a calm demeanour, Nero leapt out of danger, and Jung’s attack missed the target.

Both of them looked at each other and smirked in the same fashion.

Suddenly, Nero was the first one to ambush him from behind, but even his clouded sight caught her tail movement, blocking her paws with an axe and Heroic Barrier.

They didn’t stop and clashed with one another.

Jung’s swift and calculating style against Nero’s overwhelming magical skills.

He was superior in speed, strength, stamina, and experience, but the cat armed with her shadow abilities and void paws wasn’t a pushover either.

Bombardment and relentless pressure intensified, but neither of them could get the upper hand.

Until Nero meowed wickedly, and her shadow grew larger.

It almost covered the entire floor, touching Jung once more, as he lost his footing and was pulled towards her.

"Come here, my little slave," she said dramatically, dragging him towards her.

"So that’s how you want to play," Jung muttered, jerking to free himself from her clutches.

The cat wasn’t planning to let her prey escape, and she lunged at him to deal as much damage as possible.

"Come here, my pussy cat," he encouraged Nero, while his resistance to her skills never ceased.

Two seconds was all she needed to emerge upon him.

Her claws, along with soft paws, were covered in void element, and with a physical boost her new skills provided, even her tail became destructive as she aimed it at Jung.

Every part of Nero’s body repeatedly thrashed Jung.

’I can see them. I can react to them,’ he thought, letting his instincts take over.

He did exactly that, but Nero’s power was too grand for the space to endure.

Cracks were created first in the air and then in the ring itself.

But she wasn’t the only monster, and the ground ruptured under Jung’s feet, and their augmented and twisted pressure was enough to almost completely shatter the arena.

Though they didn’t stop.

Neither of them cared, and one time Nero’s tail split the floor, and another time Jung’s axe tore up the room.

Onlookers, including the teachers, were stunned, but the battle was so fierce that no one could intervene. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

This training ground was designed with students and their power in mind, meaning it could easily resist every attack below Tier VIII.

The strongest student the academy had ever produced at the age of 18 was a Tier VII powerhouse, and she was the current principal.

No other undergraduate should be able to damage it, but one child and a cat broke down the arena to the brim.

"Come at me with everything you got," Jung yelled at Nero.

"You first! I’m barely breaking a sweat," the cat said, and her paw smacked him to the ground.

Fortunately, Jung was quick to stand up before Nero clawed at his neck.

[Rebel Archetype is selected.]

Vex’s sound rang in his head.

She sounded both irritated and concerned but didn’t comment on anything more than necessary.

Keeping Mask covered Jung’s face.

It was visible not only to him but also almost everyone felt how much his aura had changed.

Especially Nero, whose body glowed to unimaginable degrees and her radiating pressure increased so much that it became harder to breathe.

"I don’t know much, but it’s not something an average Tier VIII should be capable of," Jung said to himself.

He was thrilled, as the stronger the opponent was, the mightier his axe would become, and as the rebel archetype was selected, his every other capability was amplified.

His thought process altered, and his body mutated beyond the limits; Jung dashed as if he was already rebelling against Nero.

With a jump of her own, the cat covered the entire distance.

Swinging her paws, shadow pillars followed her every move.

The real brawling started, and Jung summoned the second axe in his hand.

Blocking in one second, he bashed at her in the second moment.

He was the first one to sustain cuts, but every one of his wounds was closed immediately.

Persona was expanded with no restraints, and Nero’s black fur was cut soon after.

Every wound was a minor victory, but neither of them was deep enough to change the course of the battle.

No one knew how this would end.

Would they have to kill each other to find the winner, or the loser have to surrender themselves?

However, because of the way they fought and enjoyed every second of it, it was hard to guess how it would end.

’I have never had this much fun before,’ Jung thought as her sharp claws cut his nose.

Only one drop of blood slipped from his face, and before the Keeping Mask duration ran out, he sped up even further.

Now, neither of them blocked, and they slashed with no trace of pain.

Three seconds were left on his Arc when suddenly, someone appeared in his vision, and before Jung’s mind registered their presence, he heard a voice close to his ear.

"That’s enough. Stop before you wreck my academy!"
