Chapter 71: Start Of The legend

The system’s sound caught Jung off guard.

As time passed, he was getting more and more quests and chances to interact with her.

Blaming it on her evolution, he glanced at the panel and offered intruders a seat.

<Quest V: Slaughter 10,000 players.

<Rewards: Information on how to better use lower-tier pills.

<Optional Bonus: For every 1000 players you kill, you get extra Tier VI pills.

"Wasn’t expecting that," Jung whispered excitedly. "I thought it was about my new identity, but, well, it’s not bad, especially gaining new knowledge, and it’s about the pills! Hell yeah..."

His audience wouldn’t wait for him for days, meaning he had to pay them attention.

"Sorry... What did you say?" he asked Lilia, who posed the first question.

"I am asking, what are you doing here?" she repeated, curious about his answer.

Listening to Lilia’s voice, Jung peered at Snowshade.

The woman had the same qualities on her face, and it was evident she knew why he would come, yet her interest never wavered.

"Hmm, I just woke up, and I think you guys know more about the situation than me, so there is no need for such questions, and let’s go straight to the point."

Both women raised eyebrows.

While they had expected his cocky attitude, actually seeing how confidently he carried himself stirred puzzling emotions.

But they weren’t so weak to lose themselves with just that.

Lilia was the first to recover and ask the same question, but this time with a different meaning. "So, why did you really come here?"

"Of course, to negotiate how you guys are going to spoil me," he said, smiling and not hiding anything.

"I see," Snowshade exclaimed, but she didn’t seem surprised. "I knew you wouldn’t waste any time, but to think you would come so soon and ask us to pamper you like a baby."

Jung said in a witty voice and a face full of mischief. "Looking at your proportions, you guys can do a pretty good job with that."

Causing another wave of twitching brows, he continued explaining himself.

"It’s tempting, but I have no use for that, and jokes aside, we need to talk about how the academy is going to aid the Messiah to protect this world."

"We have a lot to discuss on that topic," Lilia said and finally sat beside him.

"But..." Jung started, glancing out of the window. "I understand how busy you are and can wait for two days. You guys need to hurry, and I am okay with you handling the situation first."

He said this because of the commotion outside.

There was a hush in the room, yet eyes were filled with words, conveying unspoken meanings.

Suddenly, Jung claimed, earning doubtful looks from the women. "I want a permit to leave the academy as I please."

"Why are you so adamant about going outside?" Lilia asked, remembering Jung’s past endeavour.

"That’s the topic for our next discussion..." Jung said, blabbering essentially about the use of abyss.

He plotted to abuse it as much as he could, possibly reaching various locations and gaining more riches.

However, there was a caveat.

Everything had a limit, including how long he could stretch Snowshade’s and Lilia’s resolve to put up with him.

They didn’t agree with his request, particularly the part where he demanded to operate independently.

There was no telling what might happen to him, and if he truly was destined to protect the world, then his safety should be taken into consideration.

Not only that, it must be the top priority.

Even though Jung didn’t allow them a single normal discussion to decide his fate or the resources they might invest in him, the risk of losing him was too great for Maskera.

After the accident, the academy lost promising students and teachers, creating a need for a force to guide the world through the upcoming apocalypse.

So it didn’t come as a surprise that they were adamant, and after Jung’s bargains, countless threats, and somewhat childish behaviours, Lilia’s workload increased.

The reason was simple.

Jung only trusted Snowshade, and even though his trust was shallow, he wouldn’t allow anyone else to accompany him.

One way or another, the woman knew him; she had seen his abnormal archetype status and appeared to be on humanity’s side.

Long story short, Jung gained a bodyguard for the day, but if everything went according to the plan, he would shake her off before the main show started.

Walking out of the office and reaching the big hall, they were met with silence between them.

"So you didn’t lie," Snowshade broke it and muttered.

"I never do," Jung said, hiding his lifted lips.

"Still, it was surprising," she said and asked. "What are you planning to do from now on?"

"I have to make sure you won’t talk," Jung said in a threatening voice, not hiding his animosity.

Snowshade heard his threatening tone, saw his cold face, and understood the gravity behind his actions.

"I understand you want to protect your privacy, and I promise I won’t leak whatever you do as long as it won’t put the academy or the world in danger."

"And you expect me to believe you with just your words?" Jung exclaimed. "After so many traitors were found?"

The woman had no words to rebuke. She was still shaken by what happened and couldn’t offer Jung her convincing reasons to gain his trust.

"What do you suggest?" she questioned, thinking Jung had everything planned out.

Contrary to her expectations, he shrugged, and without changing his cold demeanour, he said. "I don’t know, but I am not afraid, either."

It didn’t seem like he was lying. Snowshade halted her steps, observing Jung’s back for a second.

Then she used the abyss talisman, manifesting the door and entering it with him.

While in nothingness, Jung activated the Revolt Body, transforming his appearance and startling the woman.

"Wh-what?" she asked in confusion, blinking her eyes repeatedly.

Jung, now Balatro, smiled, and tying his hair behind his head, he said, "It’s me, your favourite student."

His voice, face, height, and body proportions were changed.

It was an utterly new person with different clothing, leaving not a single resemblance between the two.

"And this is my secret identity. You shall address me as Balatro," he said arrogantly.

Snowshade was sceptical.

She was thinking of what Jung’s real identity was and if he could alter his appearance even more.

"You have never been to my lessons," she answered, opening the second door before them.

"That’s the fun part," Jung replied, going out to the real world.

The sparked conversation didn’t stop there, especially after Jung gave Nero permission to leave his heart space and rest on his shoulders.

This time, Snowshade took it way more calmly, as if she slowly got used to Jung’s strange actions.

Yet her curiosity was piqued, as she scanned Nero with passion and desire to touch her.

As for Jung, he only thought about the players. He was like an addict shaking after noticing the alcohol.

The sweet drinks on this occasion were plentiful, but knowing that breaking Nero’s curse would require far more than their current supply, Jung greedily searched for more.

He enjoyed his freedom.

It was a peaceful morning for him, and strolling the Arcane City’s streets with Nero on his shoulder, Snowshade on the side, and players around him, he was thrilled.

A record-breaking player bloodbath in gaming history was nearing. Jung would rise as the NPC with the highest player kill count, and this very thought excited him.

Stopping the tall player with a doggo beside her, Jung called out, his voice loud enough to attract attention.

"Hello, dear!"
