Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 60: Scars
Chapter 60: Scars
Jung’s brain worked to its limits. Strained with thoughts and measuring all possibilities, he chose the safest yet most insane option.
"Nero!" he roared, calling the cat.
Immediately, he dashed even deeper and closer to the goblins.
"You don’t have to shout," Nero screamed in his mind, and leaving Jung’s heart, she appeared in the real world.
As the fluffy creature materialized, Jung kept avoiding goblins, his sole goal being to run away from the supervisor who undoubtedly betrayed the academy.
On the other hand, Nero hopped around.
She had to buy enough time for Jung to get away from the woman.
Unfortunately, Gwen was Tier VII, and her status stood above her.
Therefore, Nero was one step late, and the teacher managed to act.
She stood behind Barni and with an evil smile still plastered on her face, she touched the boy and instantly mutated him.
Turning into the meat paste, Barni died on the spot.
A new sound was born.
The cave was filled with Mira’s deafening cries.
Ronan was taken aback.
He hadn’t expected something like this to happen, and intending to follow Jung, he fought with an amplified vigour.
That was the last thing Jung saw.
He had no idea how the twins reacted, but based on their silence and lost healing magical hues from the Astra, he could only guess.
At the same time, he genuinely worried about Nero.
She took the risky job, and it was thanks to her that Gwen wasn’t upon him.
But not knowing how she fared against the traitorous lover, he hoped she was okay.
[She is strong.] Vex said, comforting him, even though Jung hid his feelings.
[Nothing is going to happen to her.]
An axe cleaved the approaching wrist and then slashed the stomach, dropping the goblin’s insides on the ground.
Jung had to hurry and be careful at the same time.
There was no guarantee Gwen wouldn’t catch up to him, meaning he had to run and slay the monsters on the way.
The deeper Jung went into the cave, the wider the path became. Goblins flooded the whole space, demanding precise movements from his body.
Thankfully, he understood what needed to be done.
Not glancing behind, Jung dashed and massacred abominations on the way.
Suddenly, his eyes picked up light. As his eyes were accustomed to the darkness, the brightness hurt.
"What’s that?" he asked, and accelerated, reducing only his defence, he relied on Heroic Barrier.
The more he ran, the brighter the lighting became.
In addition, more goblins emerged, but the increased room was good enough for him to move around without an injury.
[So that’s how it is,] said the system after noticing the lightning source.
Jung darted his eyes around in confusion and asked. "What do you mean? Do you know something about this tear in space?"
Vex giggled before answering, [Of course, I know, silly. It’s a Scar, but I wasn’t expecting to see it so soon.]
"Scar?" Jung repeated and asked again. "Care to explain to silly me?" he asked, puzzled by Vex’s unusual mood.
[It’s literally a scar borne into this world. They are small in size and numbers before the second apocalypse hits.]
She explained serious topics, but strangely, her voice was cheerful.
[More of them would appear after the world finds out about the Chosen One, and even more would be created during the second Fracture.]
With her thoughts exposed, she went quiet.
Yet she never slept.
The System was always there. Listening, observing, and talking only when she deemed it necessary.
"And I am guessing they are spawning the monsters from the moon. But what would happen when I kill that fucker?" Jung said, mentioning Astra with a thrill in his heart.
[That’s for you to find out. However, you should know that directly going inside the Scar and destroying it is impossible for now.]
Jung only took a second to think.
He wasn’t surprised by the system’s timely response, but he thought about this discovery.
"This is huge news," he said as he approached the so-called Scar.
It was colourful and truly looked like a wound that the world couldn’t heal from.
"It’s a great farming tool, especially once I can get inside and slaughter everyone," he added with a smile.
[Agreed!] Vex approved his thoughts but warned.
[Just be yourself, for now.]
Raising his eyebrows, Jung said in a fake annoyance, "Who else am I going to be?!"
After that, he stood before the Scar and killed all the goblins he could reach.
Then, out of nowhere, he saw the cute black ball rolling between his enemies and moving closer to him.
It was Nero.
There was no doubt about that, and Jung greeted her happily. "Welcome back, Dear. You aren’t hurt, are you?"
"I am doing good," Nero said and hopped on his shoulder. "I was almost lost on the way. That’s why I was so late."
She was licking her paws, but there was no blood on her. Sighing in peace, Jung asked. "How is the situation there?"
"Not good," Nero said right away.
Her voice sounded tired. "Barni is dead. Astra and the loud bitch are working with that supervisor, and I had to stall time for Ronan and the second girl to run away from the cave."
Jung listened attentively, petting Nero on the head and praising her. "You did great, thanks."
Then he turned his head around, understanding that Gwen might appear before him at any second, he asked. "What should we do now?"
Before Nero said anything or questioned about the tear beside him, the system said. [Sorry for hiding from you, but you can get inside the Scar. I was afraid you might have gone without Nero...]
Even though she lied and just came out clean, there was no hesitation and shame in her voice.
"I see," Jung said and repeated a couple of times. "I am that kind of asshole now."
He was angry and disappointed even, but not letting emotions control his actions, he asked calmly.
"Tell me, how can I enter the Scar and slaughter the remaining goblins in its core?"
Jung was pumped up and ready to exterminate the entire species.
