Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 56: Beginning
Chapter 56: Beginning
Jung arrived in the hall. Almost everyone from his class was present, except the twins and Ronan, as it seemed they were late.
As for the instructor of the day, Walt appeared in his plain clothes and greeted everyone. "How are you kiddos doing? I see some passionate faces."
The students agreed with his claims, but before Walt spawned the door, he had to explain some matters.
Right after he began giving instructions, Ronan and the twins appeared and joined the crowd.
The older boy’s eyes were darkened with fresh wounds, though nobody paid him any attention.
"Divide into groups of six people," said Walt, not even glancing at the newcomers.
"Each party gets one assistant teacher and follows their lead. They are waiting for us, and we need to meet them quickly." He went on with his ramblings and had a lot to say.
"You might have heard, but this whole trip isn’t only training but also a competition at the same time. We will observe your teamwork, fighting, and survival capabilities and count your points. The top three teams get presents from us, one of which is access to the Arcane Chamber, and the second is an Arcane Crystal."
After hearing his promises, a huge commotion exploded.
Everyone knew what the Arcane Chamber and Arcane Crystals were, including Jung, who was no less excited than his classmates.
The first one was a magical room in the simplest words.
It was small and only allowed one person at a time, but the things it could do were undoubtedly impressive.
This room could generate shadows of the person, and they talked, danced, and sometimes argued.
Its main point was to generate insight for the person and let them experience their archetype first-hand, expanding their understanding and lowering the bottleneck everyone faced.
Jung passed the trial with flying colours, and Snowshade believed he would never experience bottlenecks.
There was some truth to that, as Jung had no problem advancing with normal archetypes.
However, he had a Keeper archetype, and it would block his future progression.
Jung was already at Tier V, meaning that if he wanted to progress even further, understanding his Keeper’s side was a must.
Thus, the Arcane Chamber was something he desperately needed.
"Do you know something about it?" Jung asked the system.
She answered right away. [They will help you greatly. It is a resource that can boost your knowledge. I hope after experiencing it, you can tell me who you are.]
Vex didn’t forget the question she had asked him before.
The answer Jung had baked back then didn’t please her.
All he had thought was how meaningless and absurd his life had been up to this point, and not only did he not value life, but his only purpose was to feel the emotions he wanted.
Not much was changed after that.
Jung was the same unlikeable prick whose only desire was to make his family happy again.
Nothing was wrong with that, but the absurdity and lack of feelings he felt in another aspect of his life made the system angry at him.
Jung had a hard time understanding her.
She openly drew a line between them, but occasionally she acted out of her character and made Jung even more confused.
"My answer will never change," he said, grinning widely. "I can be everything as long as it serves my purpose."
His words were ignored, and the lingering silence stayed in his mind.
Jung’s thought drifted to Arcane Crystal.
Even though it was a great resource, it clearly lacked the same appeal the chamber had.
Those crystals could enchant weapons and equipment.
Their use was fairly straightforward, and while they were rare, they didn’t create the same level of excitement since they didn’t directly increase the strength of the individual.
Walt talked a bit more.
His explanation lasted longer than ten minutes, and some students acted like their ears would bleed at any moment.
It was hard to stay still after hearing about the reward the academy was willing to give.
Students were excited, and after Walt opened the door and showed the way to the abyss, all of them followed him in peace, afraid not to fall behind.
Walking lasted an unusually long time.
Not a single pupil knew their destination, and the circling nothingness didn’t help, either.
Half an hour later, the second door could be seen.
’Wow, it’s... ugly.’ After appearing in a new environment, Jung thought instantly, judging the sight before him.
His view was shared among the students.
Some of them puked because of the sight and the smell.
Meanwhile, Jung observed his surroundings eagerly, especially when he was put into a group he wanted to be a part of.
Of course, it was his cohort, as they seemed almost inseparable.
But the thing was, Astra himself invited him, making Jung doubt his intentions.
Nevertheless, after witnessing the foul smell and dry domain around him, he buried his thoughts and studied the terrain.
Dark colours dominated the habitat.
Everything felt like a dying forest with a curse and rotting tendencies, causing headaches and weakness in the stomach.
And as if blocking entrance and exit at the same time, the lofty rocks surrounded them, making the entire situation even more alarming.
Expecting to find their supervisors, students gathered around Walt.
The majority of them moved like lost puppies, fear, and anxiety gripping their hearts.
As a matter of fact, Arcane Academy was enclosed by chaos.
This was because of the prophecy that spoke about the impending danger the world would face.
Higher-ups, including Lilia, knew it was a hard truth.
So, they sped up and toughened their teaching process.
Humanity demanded strong warriors, and as the greatest academy, they had the reputation to uphold, meaning creating the strongest powerhouses was their role more than ever.
That’s why the academy made a hasty decision and brought its disciples here on the second day.
But they didn’t act recklessly.
Threats were in control, and trainees would only learn without facing any real danger.
At least, that was the plan.
Suddenly, teachers arrived. They acted quickly and assembled groups instantly, leading teams in different directions.
’It’s too soon to act like that,’ Jung thought, eyeing his classmates.
’They will be overwhelmed.’
Criticizing how quickly everything happened, Jung followed his instructor, with an ominous premonition seizing his intuition.
