Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 51: Collecting Resources
Chapter 51: Collecting Resources
Most of the players halted their steps. It wasn’t an everyday occasion when some random NPC yelled at them.
Especially mentioning the word "players" and the way he spoke, was a huge trigger.
"What’s going on?"
"Did someone just call us?"
"I think it was the guy with a cat on his shoulder."
"What? There are cats in the World of Archetypes?"
"Let’s go. What if it’s a quest or something?"
The chatter filled an already busy street.
There were quite a lot of workshops around, including the alchemy house, the smith, the adventurer association, and all in all, shops that sold everything the players might need.
Deliberately choosing this place, Jung’s decision proved to be the correct one.
After his declaration, players hastily surrounded him, yet it seemed like no one recognized him.
Jung was slightly dejected and disappointed, but not displaying his childish side, he demanded.
"I know that you losers are excited, but please be quiet; my darling doesn’t like loud noises," Jung said, caressing Nero, and even if his attitude was friendly, his voice wasn’t.
Some onlookers understood his message and hushed themselves.
However, clueless players still talked over him.
"I guess I have to set an example." Jung’s words reverberated in this chaos, making the people closest to him tremble.
Then he dashed, with an axe in his hand, he danced between the players, leaving a trail of blood behind him.
Nero acted on her own.
She chose her own targets, slaying them instantly.
This whole situation happened quicker than anyone could react or expect, marking Jung’s new legend and awakening his old one.
"I remember now!" said the jester archetype player.
"I have seen videos and forums about him. How come he is here? In the video, he is massacring players, and I think he even gave out some quests as well."
Corpses dropped on the ground, leaving sparkling items behind.
From about 60 players, not one tried to take them, and the crowd grew with each passing second.
Only Jung walked around and collected the loot in his inventory.
At this point, they had much more valuable possessions, and the loot they dropped upon death wasn’t limited to just taming pills.
Then Jung did something that horrified spectators even more.
Activating Shifting Cloud, the dead bodies pixelated, transformed into black mist and merged with Jung.
It felt like he was death itself—maybe scarier and creepier—but it was true that he had harvested some part of the players.
Pleased with the outcome, Jung stood in the middle of the crowd, knowing that all eyes were on him, he said, "Buzzing flies are squished."
Then a smile blossomed on his face. "Some of you may know me. And others might find me unfamiliar, but all of you must remember my name."
Creating the silence, Jung let the tension grow, and only then did he continue.
"I am Balatro, the man who will lead players from planet Earth and guide them through this world."
"You mean your role is to help us?" asked a cute yet tall and muscular girl with a soft voice.
"No. . . It means that you guys are my sidekicks. My words are your rules, and my wishes are your wishes."
It didn’t seem like he was joking.
Yet his words struck a couple of nerves.
Understanding this, Jung went on with his ramblings, not giving players the chance to cut him off.
"I have missions for you, my friends, so listen carefully."
As soon as his speech started, even those players who didn’t like his attitude stayed still in anticipation.
No gamer in the world disliked free quests. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Particularly from the unique NPC in a VRMMORPG game, where everything looked real, and some people even called it the second world.
"First and foremost. . . I want every rebel, hero, and wizard archetype pill you can find. I am not picky with their tiers; just give me as much as you can."
That was another reason why getting a new archetype benefited him.
The more options Jung had, the more pills he could consume, increasing his progress a step further.
Players were listening to him.
They even got system notifications, informing them about the new mission and its requirements.
Jung wasn’t done, though.
He had another desire. It wasn’t something he needed, but it would make his life easier at the very least.
"Find a player named HugeP. Ask him to come to this city and wait for my instructions."
His second wish wasn’t hard to follow.
They had to post announcements on forums, and if enough people saw it, HugeP or those around him might see it and establish contacts.
Jung said all he had in mind.
Now, it was the player’s turn to act and give him the pills he wanted.
However, Jung had limited stock in pills he could trade, meaning most of the rewards should be paid from the other system, and the pills he owned would be for special clients who delivered the most amount of pills.
[I can contact that junkyard and work things out,] Vex said, catching Jung off guard.
"I thought you hated their guts," Jung said, looking into his mind. "How come you are so willing to help me?"
The system snorted at his words, expressing her irritation.
[I am helping no one. I am simply using one of my new functions which includes negotiating, to increase your gains.]
"I don’t know what you mean, but go for it," Jung answered, grinning as most of the players decided to give him their spare pills in exchange for the rewards their system promised.
As for the players with deep pockets with significant amounts of pills, Vex aided him in trading with them.
Five minutes went by, and Jung felt like a rich kid while his inventory kept growing with treasures.
It seemed like the hero archetype was the most common, followed by the wizard and then rebel pills.
After slaying the Nightmare creatures, Jung collected innocent, jester, and lover Tier VI pills, which brought the greatest joy to the players with the same archetype, but most of Jung’s profit came from the sheer number of players who wanted to get rid of the excess loot anyway, and meeting Jung turned into a huge opportunity for them.
"Do you know what their quest rewards are?" Jung asked Vex in interest.
The way players acted showed that their compensations weren’t that bad.
[I don’t know, but it’s nowhere close to the profit you are making.]
Vex answered and counted the total amount of pills Jung had collected.
Half an hour later, Jung hid himself in anticipation. "It was a great haul for the first day," he said, as he watched his progression window before swallowing the pills.
