Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players-Chapter 106: New Friend?
Chapter 106: New Friend?
Jung was confused, but he wouldn’t show that.
"Hello there, traveller. You can kindly fuck off or come closer."
His words were followed by echoes of laughter.
Then, he abruptly fell silent for a second before opening his mouth.
"What a funny tongue you have. Reminds me of my friend whose face I want to punch, cut, slice, and maybe even shit on."
[See? I told you you would like that guy,] Vex said, chuckling.
Shaking his head, Jung yelled loudly.
"Think of me as your friend, and you can try to do everything you want."
"Really?" the voice exclaimed.
It was getting closer, creating an intense atmosphere and plummeting temperature.
Players began shaking—their hands trembling in pain.
Nero and Jung had no reactions, but the latter nodded.
"Yes. I’m the most trustworthy person on Maskera."
"But..." the voice echoed, almost whispering behind his ears. "We aren’t on Maskera right now."
"You got me."
Jung answered dejectedly and dashed.
He aimed to catch the guy before he tried anything, and stomping through the snow, he crossed the mist to reach his target.
’Who is this guy? He doesn’t sound like the ruler.’
With Nero on the ground and axes in his hands, Jung abandoned players.
Soon, he saw a silhouette.
It just stood there, waiting for his approach calmly.
Not wasting his time, Jung sped up and jumped at him, dropping him on the snow and pressing the axe to his throat.
"You are rougher than you look."
The guy said as calmly as before, darting his eyes as if there was no threat to his life.
"Who are you?" Jung asked.
"I am a tortoise. No, wait, I should be a fox."
His throat experienced even greater pressure from the axe, yet he was as calm as before.
Both of them were concealed in mist.
It was impossible to see each other, let alone actually examine one another.
Concentrating and deleting everything from his perception, Jung finally managed to glimpse his prey, and, contrary to what he had said, the unknown guy definitely wasn’t an animal.
"Whoa!" he exclaimed. "You saw me?"
Jung didn’t like to repeat himself.
He was about to get rougher when Vex advised.
[No shot you will damage him. Stop wasting your time and talk to him like a normal human. I think you can be friends.]
"I think you should listen to her," the voice said.
But it was behind him instead of beneath him.
"Wh—" Jung wanted to question before seeing that there was no one under his axes.
Standing up with a calm demeanour, he looked at this mysterious man.
He was short, more like a kid, but appeared to be an adult.
No snowflake or mist touched his clothes, as if they were afraid of getting closer to him.
There was a warm smile plastered on his face, and no matter what he did, how friendly, innocent, or gracious he seemed, only one thought surfaced in Jung’s mind.
’Damn, I hate this guy.’
Then he asked again, expanding his sense of hatred.
"Who are you, and who do you mean by her?"
This question was also aimed at Vex, as she clarified nothing, leaving him in the dark.
"I believe I am a tortoise. But I don’t know who she is."
"Tortoise... I see." Jung repeated. "What if I told you that you are a dumb motherfucker? What’s your opinion on that?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
The man went silent.
"Motherfucker? But I’ve never done such a thing in my life."
His answer came after he considered and added something.
"And before you ask, yes, I’ve been and still am a tortoise. Just because you don’t see me as one doesn’t mean I am dumb or even worse—wrong. But if you were asking about my name, I have one as well. My name is Orindel, but you can call me Ori."
"Dear Ori, should I kill you or not?"
"Why would you do that? Don’t you want to be my friend?"
He looked like a disappointed kid when he said that.
’Why do I have to look after brats all the time?’ he thought.
[Let him guide you. Don’t start acting up against him. He isn’t as bad as you make him out to be.]
"No, not really... I have no intention of being your friend," he said.
"You know what? Seeing your attitude keeps reminding me of my friend I mentioned earlier. He has a terrible temper, too. I think people like them are called assholes."
Hearing his innocent remark, Jung genuinely laughed for once.
"That’s a good one. Now come with me."
"Wait, I thought you hated me?"
Jung halted his steps, and scrutinizing the man called Ori, he waved his hands in dismissal.
"I just don’t like you, that’s all."
[I knew it... You like him. I know what kind of tsundere you are, and my senses are tingling. Nero, don’t you agree?]
The cat glanced at both of them lazily.
"Honestly? They are the same for me. But Jung is more annoying because his face is ugly, he talks a lot, he smells, he walks, he is rude as fuck, he breathes..."
Jung ignored her, leading Ori to the players.
HugeP greeted them cheerfully, noting the new companion.
He showed the way and the small camp they set to rest.
"So that’s how Immortals look?!"
Ori studied them with interest but commented nothing more than that.
He introduced himself by a name rather than a stupid turtle, making Jung doubt his sanity.
Suddenly, one player fell, shuddering from the cold.
The game mechanic had an accurate sense replicator, and players experienced close to the actual pain with every other sensation.
The constant freezing, and even now that the temperature dropped even more, made their situation unbearable for most.
Ori saw their condition, and lowering his gaze, he said,
"I am so sorry for that. It slipped out of my mind."
As soon as he said that, he snapped his fingers, and the snow, storm and chilling frosts disappeared.
Even the mist was suppressed.
’Who is he?’ Jung asked the system again.
This time it was genuine interest.
[Ooh, didn’t I tell you? He is my brother and the sage god.]
