Chapter 48: Chapter 48: So Many Fresh Lives

Shi Mei hid her subtle expressions quite well.

Even when Bai Yuejie stared at her, she seemed only to be confused by ignorance.

Seeing this, Bai Yuejie’s smile grew even gentler as she softly said, "Otherwise, it wouldn’t be a gift that Shi Mei herself gave to Grandma, and she would dislike you even more then."

Sure enough, Shi Mei’s face showed fear and panic, "Don’t dislike Shi Mei, Shi Mei is good!"

"Then promise me, don’t tell anyone, okay?"

Shi Mei nodded decisively.

Bai Yuejie smiled tenderly, "Now tell me, what did you promise me?"

Stumbling, Shi Mei quickly repeated, "To imitate Tang Wu, not to tell others."

"Anybody," Bai Yuejie emphasized, "remember, okay?"

Shi Mei nodded vigorously.

Bai Yuejie, satisfied, patted her head, "Very good, shall Sister Bai take you for some sweets?"

Shi Mei’s eyes finally sparkled with their usual brilliance, her pitch-black pupils shining brilliantly, "Mm-hmm!"

Watching her lively demeanor, Bai Yuejie’s eyes darkened with an indistinct gloom, her tone amused, "What vibrant life."

After the sweets, Bai Yuejie felt that the little fool had become even more affectionate towards her than before.

The smile on the corners of Bai Yuejie’s lips was irrepressible.

She took Shi Mei straight to her songwriting studio and, presenting a lute, asked her, "Can you play?"

Shi Mei, excited, plucked a string, producing a ’twang.’

Hearing the sound, Shi Mei immediately said, "I can!"

Bai Yuejie was astonished, "Really?"

Shi Mei nodded.

Bai Yuejie began to doubt whether this decision was the right one.

Before the car accident, Shi Mei had been a student at an arts school.

Maybe she really could play?

Wouldn’t that ruin her plan?

With trepidation in her heart, Bai Yuejie handed her the lute while saying, "Tang Wu’s best known for the lute, especially ’Ten Sides Ambush.’"

Wrong.

Her best was the piano.

As for her best lute piece...

Having been forced by Grandma to practice the ten famous pieces every day since she was young, there was nothing she couldn’t play. :)

Shi Mei pretended not to understand, grabbed the lute with one hand and started to blindly strum the strings.

Discordant sounds filled the ears!

Bai Yuejie was shocked, immediately grabbed her hand, face twitching, "Is this what you call being able to play?"

Shi Mei clung to it, pouting, "I can!"

"You can’t, let’s learn something simple instead."

Finally, Bai Yuejie understood.

Did she think that being able to make a sound meant she could play?

"I can!"

To prove herself, Shi Mei began to thrash at the strings again.

Bai Yuejie was nearly knocked unconscious by the horrible noise and snatched away the lute, teeth clenched, "You can’t. The piano is easier, shall we go play the piano?"

Shi Mei reluctantly let go.

Bai Yuejie breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to the expensive grand piano, lifting the lid.

"Wow!" Shi Mei’s face lit up with surprise and she rushed over, starting to bang on the keys.

Bai Yuejie couldn’t stand it any longer, held her hands and said, "Enough!"

Shi Mei looked frightened, pulling back her hands, timidly looking at her.

Bai Yuejie took a deep breath, suppressing the irritation.

With a gentle smile, Bai Yuejie continued, "I’ll have someone come teach you, let’s not play today."

Shi Mei, acting reluctantly, "Okay, but I really can play them all!"

Just didn’t want to let you know.

Bai Yuejie: Heh.

Later, Shi Mei managed to drive away three piano teachers.

When Bai Yuejie asked why, the teachers all showed a look of panic: They couldn’t afford to offend, not this big shot!
