Reborn As An Extra In My Own Novel-Chapter 61: Deerheart’s Attack [3]
Chapter 61: Deerheart’s Attack [3]
Cordelia’s radiant magic circle dimmed slightly before its light blazed through the entire dungeon like a second sun. In an instant, the brilliant spectrum of light converged at the center of the magic circle.
She raised two fingers as she hovered above both Amy and me.
The mana in the atmosphere was condensing, making it impossible to even evade the attack, not like I was planning to anyway.
"Amy!" I called out, facing Cordelia’s form. "Can you coat me with mana and act as my support when I need help? You’re a tank, right?"
I could feel her staring at me from the corner of my eye. She nodded, then placed her palms on the outer spine of my combat suit.
Mana surged into me like a crashing wave as I tried my best to contain it and fuse it with my own mana.
In an instant, a second skin made of crimson energy enveloped me, causing me to stagger a step backward. Regaining my footing, I fixed my gaze back on Cordelia.
As soon as Amy removed her hand from my back, she moved to my side with both hands raised in the air, beginning to cast layer upon layer of barriers.
They left only a small gap between them and Cordelia’s floating figure.
Cordelia sneered, and with a flick of her finger, the already primed spell launched like a bonfire toward us.
As if a concentrated light that mimicked a meteorite had fallen upon the world, the ground beyond the barrier began to disintegrate as parts of the earth rose into the sky.
The air thickened, and the sky resembled a rusted blade of steel.
Amy’s barriers began collapsing one by one as sparks of light formed with every fracture.
A soft squeal escaped her lips as blood dripped from the edge of her tightly shut mouth.
Her eyes were sunken, like she hadn’t had a proper sleep in weeks, her arms trembled from fatigue, her face pale, her feet unsteady, even her once-steady breathing had turned ragged.
All I could do was stand and wait for my chance to strike. I clenched my teeth, frustration plain in my eyes.
’Hold on for one more minute.’ I reassured her in my mind, though I didn’t voice it.
As the light drew closer to our position, shattering barriers every second, I noticed a faint but undeniable smile curl on Amy’s lips. She laughed bitterly and, as if mocking the overwhelming figure, she shouted, "Is that all you’ve got?"
Cordelia’s eyes narrowed in disgust, a slight tremble in her posture as the brilliance of the spell’s light intensified.
My system appeared before me as the final process for my request to the gods completed.
That was why I needed Amy to buy time for me. It wasn’t like the gods would deliver any ability I wanted instantly, well, except for those I had already used before.
I tapped Amy on the shoulder, just that slight touch nearly made her legs buckle.
The area outside the barrier had long since been decimated by the spell, leaving behind barren, untilled land.
The faint echoes and blood of the drifters that were slain with Hari’s spell still lingered.
But my preparation was complete. "You can rest now, Amy... Leave the rest to me."
She nodded faintly as the last two mana barriers shattered into fragments of light.
I raised my blade in a stance for a downward slash, my feet spreading just slightly.
"Be careful, she’s strong." Those were the last words I heard from Amy as the world dimmed into darkness.
[YOU HAVE REQUESTED THE TALENT: SON OF HADES]
[YOU HAVE REQUESTED THE TALENT: SHADOW SOVEREIGN]
The world around me darkened as a veil covered my vision, I couldn’t see a thing, but I didn’t need to.
The attack was right in front of me. I didn’t have to hesitate or second-guess.
Temporary blindness was a steep price to pay for using two high-level talents at full strength.
I could feel my eyes glowing even though I couldn’t see, but I was also sure they were still open.
Energy surged through me, making my body feel somewhat foreign. A sense of death surrounded me, like I had become the Grim Reaper himself.
I didn’t know how powerful the downward slash was since I couldn’t see, but from the sound of the wind howling and the ground splitting, I could somewhat gauge its force.
I was still standing, and Amy’s presence was still stable, the spell had been completely nullified, but Cordelia still floated in the air, her mana unwavering.
Like a bolt of lightning, she appeared before me, a light sabre clutched in her hand.
Sensing her mana pattern, I sidestepped slightly, loosened my grip on my sword, trapped her sabre between my elbow, then lifted the pommel of my blade and slammed it into her side.
Blood spewed from her mouth and splattered on my combat suit.
I could feel her murderous glare even through my blindness. It didn’t take her long to realize... I wasn’t the same person she was fighting before.
I smirked as I stepped back three times, resting my blade against my arm.
At that moment, I was not inferior to an early A-rank in the slightest.
"I think it’s time to finish this, don’t you think?"
I couldn’t see her expression, but something told me she had clenched her teeth.
She began chanting spell after spell as I charged toward her.
I could barely believe the speed I was moving at. I nearly even tripped over my own feet.
Stabilizing my core, I deflected one of her strikes using the extra coating Amy had applied on me.
Steel clashed with mana as I seized her blade with my left hand, flipped behind her, and kicked her in the back while still holding her sword.
She let out a horrific scream as her body attempted to fly from the force of my kick, but didn’t, and the recoil rattled her insides with unimaginable pain, amplified by the Son of Death talent, I was sure it did damage.
The Son of Death talent had the potential for instant kill, but since I was still weak, it could only temporarily nullify talents.
Throwing Cordelia off balance, I instantly let go of her sword before she could shift her ability.
Infusing lightning mana into the soles of my feet while still suspended mid-air, I struck Cordelia’s mana-coated back.
The shockwave from the hit echoed through the dungeon, almost striking Amy, who was behind me. The sound of crackling lightning mana rang in my ears.
The backlash from the clash surged like a tidal wave through our veins as Cordelia gritted her teeth, her voice trembling with disbelief. "Bastard." freēwēbnovel.com
The moment I heard her crash into the tree several meters away, I deactivated Son of Death and forged a blade using both Shadow Sovereign and Azura Flames mana.
The tree Cordelia collided with sent smoke in all directions, briefly obscuring my vision.
But even then, I could feel her domineering presence press down on me. I grinned crookedly as the silhouette ahead soared into the sky.
With a taunting tone, I murmured, "Afraid to come closer?"
The reason the fight had gone in my favor wasn’t just because I had borrowed a broken talent from a god, but because Cordelia was no longer human.
Just like before, a massive magic circle appeared above her head. But this time, I wasn’t letting her off.
The blade forged from the two talents fused with bland vale, my mana rising to new heights.
Cordelia’s eyes widened, the edge of her lips twitching into a scowl like she no longer recognized me.
She swiftly raised her arm over her head as I poured mana into my blade.
She screamed at the top of her lungs, "Die, you vermin!"
I couldn’t help but chuckle softly. "Vermin, huh? I don’t want to hear that from someone like you." I gave a dark grin. "This might sound arrogant coming from me... But."
I spread my legs, stretching my arms wide. The ground lifted as smoke swirled from where I stood.
The grey mist veiling the sky began to fade as my blue and red mana clashed with Cordelia’s sky-blue mana.
I closed my eyes briefly as the slicing wind howled endlessly in my ears.
The sky split from Deerheart’s radiant beam that still shimmered ahead.
I extended my zone to envelop the area around the mountain’s cliff.
The jagged stones formed from our clash split into two clean halves without me lifting my blade.
With a clear mind, I inhaled deeply and whispered, "...Throughout heaven and earth, only I am the honored one."
With that, the two attacks collided: my blade forged from the purest steel, with mana that had transcended B-rank limits, clashed with Cordelia’s mana that felt almost divine.
As the light grew fiercer, I felt my skin tingle as red light enveloped me, making my outer skin glow.
I smiled faintly and whispered, "Thank you."
In a flash, I closed the distance and delivered the final side slash.
The already collapsing dungeon shattered into shards of light as the academy came into view.
The strike cleared all the miasma in the air around us.
My vision blurred, and my muscles gave out. Falling before me was Cordelia’s body.
I smiled faintly before collapsing on one knee, barely able to stand. ’My whole body hurts.’
Seeing Amy’s figure rushing toward me, I let myself fall into sleep’s embrace.
I was completely drained.
