Reborn As An Extra In My Own Novel-Chapter 59: Deerheart’s Attack [1]
Chapter 59: Deerheart’s Attack [1]
Since Neko-sensei had already briefed the teachers, it didn’t take long for them to grasp the situation after my concise explanation.
The first part of the plan I had devised was actually straightforward: divide and conquer.
After my discussion with Neko-sensei, prior to venturing into the dungeon with Matt and the others, she had gone to meet the headmistress so they could devise a way to not only bypass Deerheart’s order but also place teleportation runes around the academy.
So, in the event that things went south, we would be able to separate Deerheart and his drifter soldiers. I could also state with complete certainty that Deerheart wasn’t operating alone.
Aside from the demonic humans who assisted him in the novel, there must have been another variables that didn’t appear at this stage. That meant we also needed to eliminate that individual.
That was where Neko-sensei came in, whatever force was supporting Deerheart and remained hidden within the academy was her responsibility, so I didn’t have to worry.
I took in a deep breath as I sprinted down the stairs again. There was no time to remain idle or engage in discussion; everyone had to act on whatever vague information I provided.
’For now, let’s head to the administrative office,’ I mused, dashing out the front door.
The academy had become eerily silent, and the clouds were tinged purple as miasma caused some academy staff, especially those who weren’t awakened, to collapse. Some struggled to breathe, while others succumbed to hysteria. This wasn’t limited to just staff; students were affected as well.
During this arc, there were a total of six primary threats, and if I included Hari and the mysterious individual aiding Deerheart, the number rose to eight.
Deerheart was obviously the first. Then there was Carapace, the Sequence Five drifter he had summoned.
There was also the horde of drifters ranging from Sequence Eight to Six, as well as the demonic humans who had infiltrated the academy, both as students and faculty.
Then the mana beasts that ranged from E-rank to C-rank, and finally, there were the kidnapped girls, with the most dangerous being Isabella.
’Damn it, Rachel just had to get herself kidnapped too.’ I increased my pace further.
If I followed the timeline of the novel, though it had already deviated significantly, then the Sequence Five drifter was scheduled to appear in the administrative office. That was why I had sent Reni there in advance.
The sky was gradually fracturing as visible cracks began to form. I quickly activated my combat suit as the nano-atoms provided by the academy crawled across my skin and formed sleek armor.
The tether embedded in my spinal cord glowed as my eyes flickered intensely, vapors emanating from the gasmask.
Mages combat armor was designed to enhance spellcasting through a system called Spell Tech. It also shielded mages from miasma, which could be lethal, whether inhaled or absorbed through the skin, that meant no matter how uncomfortable it was, I had to deal with it.
I immediately activated Clairvoyance as the system echoed in my mind.
"System."
"Quickly give me a breakdown of all the new abilities I acquired from the drifters I eliminated. Just the relevant ones, please."
[Yes. Immediately]
Ding!
New!
Shadow Transmission! Blood Bomb!
Unbreakable Will! Flame Shower!
Sparing a glance at the system window that materialized before me, I struggled to maintain my balance as the ground trembled beneath my feet.
’System, how many Saints do I have now?’
[User Has a total of 45 lower ranked saints and four higher ranked saints]
’Hmm... if the system counts Gumiho, Shiki, and Gobo as High-Level, then only one saint has reached their level of power.’ I shook off the unnecessary thoughts.
For now, I needed to get to the science lab to retrieve something crucial for concluding the arc. Fortunately, I could send a shadow to the administrative office and switch places with it when necessary, that alone resolved one of the major issues I was facing.
The reason I needed not just one but two things from the science lab was, firstly, because Reni would undoubtedly use her spirit form.
And although I didn’t know much about it, since she was a minor character whose backstory was never explored and was only relevant during the council elections—I knew it would still be a challenge to deal with.
The second reason was because I needed something to temporarily boost my mana. I couldn’t afford to run out of it mid-battle.
Screams, wails, and cries echoed from every direction, so loud they drowned out even the muffled sound of my own breathing through the gasmask.
Step after step, I finally caught sight of the eastern science lab in Block B, within the second-year area.
But it wasn’t exactly as I remembered it. No—the lab was now filled with growls and roars, sounds no human could produce.
However, these weren’t the cries of drifters. They emanated from a lower form of life that shared the same power and ranking system with humans: Mana Beasts.
Unlike drifters, who were often intelligent, some even surpassing humans in intellect; mana beasts were primitive, the kind of monsters typically portrayed in games and isekai anime back on Earth.
Goblins, slimes, minotaurs, and the like. But the scene before me was even more grotesque.
Hordes of mana beasts had infiltrated the lab, most likely through the minor spatial ruptures that had formed around the academy. Their numbers were overwhelming, and from what I could deduce, they had brute-forced their way past the students defending the lab.
And just like the savage creatures they were...
I clicked my tongue, eyes narrowing in fury and revulsion.
As I walked closer to the corpses of the male and female students who had fallen prey to the beasts, some battered with bruises, others clearly violated, but one thing was evident: they were all dead.
I closed my eyes and knelt beside the body of one male student, a senior I had previously met in the library. Closing his eyes and placing my palms together, I offered a silent prayer.
I might not have been the most devout, but this was the best I could do for him.
My gaze shifted to the lab’s door. The once-transparent glass was now painted in crimson smears.
Taking a deep breath to compose myself, I gave the fallen students one final bow before stepping into the building.freēnovelkiss.com
