Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties-Chapter 268 - 267: Why So Formal with Me?
Chapter 268: Chapter 267: Why So Formal with Me?
Originally, Lin Dong suddenly walked toward the deep pit, disappearing suddenly, Wu Zhengyang reacted and threw down the net he was using to catch fish to save him.
"Lin Dong!"
The two struggled in the water but unexpectedly moved deeper as they became more agitated.
Lu Zheng saw this and without a word, dashed towards the river.
Lin Xia, scared out of her wits, yelled, "Dongzi!" Her mind went blank as she instinctively rushed forward.
"Ah!" Lin Qiu screamed in fright! She was bewildered, completely unsure of what to do!
Frantically, the two ran forward until the water reached their waists; however, since they couldn’t swim, they dared not go further and could only watch the river anxiously!
Wu Zhengyang emerged on the surface, but Lin Dong had disappeared!
Lin Xia and Lin Qiu cried out Lin Dong’s name heartbreakingly.
Lu Zheng swam desperately towards their position.
By the time he got there, Wu Zhengyang took a dive back down.
Eventually, the two managed to support Lin Dong and get him out.
Lin Dong, utterly panicked and out of his senses, had inhaled water.
He gripped Lu Zheng’s neck tightly, as if clutching a lifeline.
Wu Zhengyang tried to separate the two, but he couldn’t pull Lin Dong’s arms away no matter how hard he tried.
Lu Zheng swallowed a few gulps of water and finally managed to drag Lin Dong back with him, Wu Zhengyang following behind to the shore.
All three were completely soaked from head to toe, in a pitiable state.
"How is everything?" Lin Xia and Lin Qiu, with tears on their cheeks and still shaken, asked anxiously.
They had nearly been scared to death!
Who would have thought Lin Dong could suddenly drown?
Lin Dong, face red from choking, weakly gestured, "I’m... okay..."
The disaster had truly terrified him.
Though it was summer, everyone was soaked through, and the chilly breeze made them feel cold.
Lu Zheng was fine; he exercised daily and was in good physical shape.
He felt Lin Dong shivering against him and hurriedly helped him over to the fire.
Lin Dong, feeling miserable, lay down, coughing occasionally.
Lu Zheng pressed on him to help him expel some water.
Lin Xia hurriedly fetched towels to dry them off.
Her voice still trembling, Lin Xia asked, "What exactly happened?"
After coughing up some of the water he had swallowed, Wu Zhengyang explained, "There was a deep pit there. Lin Dong must have slipped on the edge and fallen in..." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Thinking back, he still felt a chill.
In his memory, it seemed like just a second ago, Lin Dong had been right beside him, scooping fish; the next, he was gone.
Lin Qiu, with tearful eyes, helped Wu Zhengyang dry off, mumbling nonstop, "You scared us to death!"
They had come out today hoping for a fun day. What would they have done if something had happened?
"Don’t be afraid, it’s all right now!" Wu Zhengyang comforted her.
Lin Xia checked Lin Dong over and saw that he was unharmed.
She then picked up a towel to dry Lu Zheng’s hair, "Lu Zheng! Thank you!"
She was incredibly grateful to Lu Zheng.
If something had happened to her brother, she would never have forgiven herself.
"Why be so formal with me!" Lu Zheng enjoyed Lin Xia’s closeness. Seeing her with teary eyes, looking so pitiable, his heart immediately softened.
If it weren’t for their undefined relationship and a few others around, and having just gone through such a harrowing experience, he really wanted to hold her tight and comfort her.
Everyone was silent for quite a while before they recovered.
Lin Dong sat up with a guilty expression and said, "Brother Lu! Thank you! I almost got you..."
He really felt sorry!
If he hadn’t suggested one last attempt to catch fish just now, perhaps the dreadful incident wouldn’t have happened.
And there was the time he had choked on water, clumsily pressing down on him, almost causing him harm.
Regardless of who had been hurt, both his sisters would have been extremely distressed, and there would have been tremendous trouble afterwards.
Lu Zheng waved his hand nonchalantly, "Lin Dong! It’s alright! Do you still feel unwell?"
He knew that people couldn’t control themselves out of fear when drowning.
So, he didn’t blame Lin Dong.
"Much better!" Lin Dong coughed a few more times.
Lu Zheng patted his back, "You’ll feel better gradually!"
After what had just happened, they weren’t in the mood for fishing and barbecuing like before, so they decided to pack up and head home.
As they passed by Jiang Mingyuan’s house, Lin Xia saw Lu Zheng, soaked to the skin, and said, "Lu Zheng! You should go change into some dry clothes first, don’t catch a cold... come over for dinner later!"
She knew Lu Zheng must have brought a change of clothes.
Lu Zheng nodded, "Alright! I’ll come over later!" He unlocked the gate and entered the courtyard.
Wu Zhenghong saw Wu Zhengyang carrying a tool bucket and the three Lin siblings passing by the door from the hair salon, and she hurriedly ran out.
"Hey! Why are you back so soon?"
She had heard from her mother that they were going to the river to catch and barbecue fish and weren’t coming back for lunch.
"It’s fine! We wanted to come back and cook!" Lin Xia signaled Lin Qiu to open the door.
Wu Zhenghong then noticed her brother and Lin Dong were both dripping wet, "What happened to you guys? Did you accidentally fall into the river?"
Wu Zhengyang hurriedly gave her a look, "Sister! Don’t make a big deal out of it, it’s nothing!"
Wu Zhenghong intended to ask that man but stopped when she saw her brother’s signal.
"By the way, Lin Xia! The business bureau came this morning to check the business license! It’s good that I listened to you and got it taken care of!"
"Is that so! Sister Hong, we can chat when there’s time!" Lin Xia was not in the mood to care about this matter as she was anxious to get home and have her brother change out of his wet clothes.
"Okay! Come in quickly!" Wu Zhenghong thought that she could find out what happened by asking her brother later, so she didn’t press further.
Wu Zhengyang followed them into Lin Xia’s house, placed the bucket in the kitchen, and said he would come back after changing at home.
Lin Dong entered the Western House, and Lin Xia hurriedly found clean clothes for him to change into.
Lin Qiu, shaken and weak at the knees from the ordeal, could only sit on the sofa to recuperate.
Afterwards, Lin Xia came out of the room and saw Lin Qiu’s pale face, gently consoling her, "Xiaoqiu! It’s okay now!"
Just now, Lin Dong had nearly scared them to death, her throat still painfully burning.
Lin Qiu glanced towards the Western House, wiping her eyes and whispered, "Sister! I’m still frightened when I think about it. If something had really happened..." She now deeply regretted suggesting they go out.
"Stop talking! It’s all right now!" Lin Xia whispered back to her.
Lin Dong certainly hadn’t recovered yet.
After a while, Lin Xia stood up and asked, "Dongzi! Are you changed?"
"Big Sister! I’m changed!"
Lin Xia then entered the room, seeing Lin Dong sitting on the edge of the bed looking miserable.
She anxiously asked, "Dongzi! Are you still feeling unwell?"
Lin Dong looked up, his eyes clearly filled with tears, "Big Sister! I’m fine now! I was really terrified just now! I thought I was going to die!"
That feeling was too terrifying!
