Chapter 97: Chapter 97 Great Financial Prospects

The next day, Wan Chu’er got up at five-thirty as usual and ran twenty laps on the sports field before returning to wash up and have breakfast with Mai Qiqi, ready to start their classes.

For the first time in her two lifetimes, Wan Chu’er sat in a university classroom to attend lectures. This experience was both fresh and exhilarating for her, so she listened with extra care and also found it fascinating.

After a full day of classes, Mai Qiqi asked her how she felt.

Wan Chu’er thought for a little while before seriously responding,

"University professors are different from high school teachers. They’re both open-minded and erudite. While their lectures seem easygoing, what we learn is anything but."

Mai Qiqi laughed heartily and said, "Chuchu, you really are adorable."

Wan Chu’er wordlessly gazed up at the sky: "..."

That week, Wan Chu’er was attentive in class, took diligent notes, and after class, she would head straight to the library to pore over a heap of resources related to her courses to broaden her narrow perspective, only returning to the dormitory close to lights-out.

Her diligence seemed to bring her back to her high school days,

But this time, Wan Chu’er did not feel tired at all. The abundance of interesting knowledge she was absorbing each day made her feel like there just wasn’t enough time.

The more books she read related to her field, the deeper her understanding of computer science grew, and the more she came to love her major, grateful for her well-chosen specialty.

One day after reading the history of computer development, she exclaimed to Mai Qiqi, "The field of computer science really has a lucrative future."

Even though she had lived an additional decade and knew that the internet would develop well after the twenty-first century, her grasp of its ’lucrative future’ had not been profound until reading the history of computers, after which she felt her blood boiling with excitement and eagerness.

Before, she had been worried about depleting her family’s savings, but now, she had no worries at all.

Choosing the computer science major at the first university was like choosing a shortcut to a treasure mountain.

If she could master relevant computer technologies, when short of money, developing a few small software applications and selling them could bring in cash!

This was far more profitable than making pickles or tutoring part-time, and going solo was no problem at all.

Wan Chu’er had never doubted her ability to learn computer programming; while she might not be able to handle large systems on her own, she was confident in creating small applications.

On Friday morning, after her classes ended, Wan Chu’er slung her backpack over her shoulder, planning to head home since there were no classes in the afternoon.

This time, she borrowed several books on the fundamentals of programming from the library, intending to give them a thorough read at home.

She also brought the Tiger Roar Jade Pendant back with her, determined not to lose it again.

On Saturday morning, she awoke at her usual time of five-thirty, read for a while, got ready, and then went for a run in the park.

It was then that she remembered the appointment she had made last week with Grandpa Ge, wondering if he still remembered it as she ran.

Halfway through her run, she saw Grandpa Ge leading a boy about ten years old, who appeared clean and fair but also frail and slight.

From a distance, Grandpa Ge waved his hand and shouted, "Keep running, we’ll talk after you’re done."

Wan Chu’er smiled and nodded in greeting, then continued her run.

Watching Wan Chu’er’s charming figure disappear into the distance, Old Man Ge turned to his grandson and said, "You see, Grandpa didn’t lie to you, Sister Chu’er really is beautiful, isn’t she?"

Mr. Ge’s Grandson nodded vigorously, his eyes sparkling. Suddenly, he let go of Old Man Ge’s hand and sprinted after Wan Chu’er.

"Oh, where are you off to?" Old Man Ge was anxiously shouting as he tried to catch up.

A ten-year-old boy is at his most resilient, and even if he is slender, he can run faster than a man in his sixties.

After chasing for a few steps, Old Man Ge saw his grandson running after Wan Chu’er and, with a sigh of exasperation, he stopped panting and cursed "little rascal" before going to wait at the corner where Wan Chu’er used to practice martial arts.

Wan Chu’er quickly noticed a little radish head tailing her, so she intentionally slowed down. When the youngster was just four or five meters away from her, she sped up again, and the youngster followed suit, picking up the pace...

After a lap, the little radish head behind her had turned red-faced from holding his breath. Worried there might be an accident, Wan Chu’er quickly stopped. Exercise is something that needs to be gradually approached; hasty efforts won’t do.

"Chu’er... Sister, you... you don’t need to worry about me, just keep on... running."

Mr. Ge’s Grandson was also considerate, afraid to disrupt Wan Chu’er’s exercise routine, he said between gasps.

Wan Chu’er smiled and her heart warmed up to this little radish head. She wiped off her sweat and said, "Come on, let’s walk slowly for a bit."

While walking, she instructed the youngster on how to slow down his breathing and helped him to gradually recover.

By the time they reached Old Man Ge, the youngster had stopped gasping. Speaking in a low voice, he said, "Sister Chu’er, my name is Ge Erdan, please don’t despise me, okay?"

Ge Erdan?

Wan Chu’er seemed to understand why the child was often bullied. At this age, children love to give nicknames, and with a name like Ge Erdan, there was bound to be a slew of nicknames.

"Who gave you that name?" Wan Chu’er asked, raising an eyebrow.

Ge Erdan pursed his lips and replied softly, "My grandpa."

Wan Chu’er felt a wave of sympathy for Erdan – if the name Ge Erdan were used in the countryside, or even in Wutong County, it might be passable, but in big Beijing...

Surrounded by a bunch of names with grand connotations like ’Pengfei’, ’Haoran’, ’Boyuang’... suddenly having an ’Erdan’ is like a chicken appearing amongst swans. How could Erdan fit in and avoid being ostracized?

Plus, given the lad’s introverted nature, it was almost certain he’d be a frequent target of bullying!

"Ah, you’re back?" Old Man Ge, watching from a distance as his grandson and Wan Chu’er spoke softly, cheerfully said, "This is my grandson, Ge Erdan."

Such pride in his voice!

"You follow me and do some warm-up exercises first, stretch a bit, okay?" Wan Chu’er said to Ge Erdan.

Although she sympathized with Ge Erdan, she also didn’t want to spoil him, and he was a boy after all – there was no need for coddling. Time would tell.

Ge Erdan nodded eagerly like a pecking chick, easy to please.

Thus, Ge Erdan started warming up and practicing boxing with Wan Chu’er. Even though his movements were not perfect, he managed to imitate about fifty to sixty percent of it correctly.

After completing the simplest set of moves, Wan Chu’er stopped.

This little guy was not bad, quiet, and sensible. Wan Chu’er decided she would let him join her for exercises in the future. It could be considered doing a good deed every day.

"Ge Erdan, every Saturday and Sunday at seven in the morning, come here to gather and exercise with me, got it?"

"Just Saturdays and Sundays?"

Ge Erdan blinked his little eyes and asked Wan Chu’er. This sister was not only beautiful, with a clear and distinct voice, but she also treated him very well. He really wanted to be with Sister Chu’er every day.
