Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 89 Theft
Chapter 89: Chapter 89 Theft
"Shut your filthy mouth!" Wan Chu’er glared at Ma Tianjiao, her gaze as sharp as a sword’s edge shooting towards her, making Ma Tianjiao somewhat flustered.
"What did you say?" Ma Tianjiao shouted back, her voice tinged with inner fear.
Wan Chu’er coldly said, "If you have a problem with me, speak openly and straightforwardly. Don’t be passive-aggressive like a gossipmonger. Where I live has nothing to do with you. It’s just a crappy laptop; I, Wan Chu’er, don’t even care for it!
I warn you, stop being passive-aggressive around me. I have a bad temper, and if you provoke me again, I can’t guarantee what I might do!"
After she finished speaking, she swiftly kicked out horizontally, "boom" went the sound as the chair beside Ma Tianjiao toppled to the ground.
"Ah—" Ma Tianjiao screamed in fright, shrinking back and asking, "What... what do you want to do?"
Wan Chu’er sneered disdainfully, "Consider this a warning!"
Ma Tianjiao was so angry she was gasping for breath, her face shifting between red and pale, struggling to utter a word.
Lin Yufei, standing nearby, thought Wan Chu’er’s kick was downright cool. Her eyes sparkling, she looked at Wan Chu’er and exclaimed, "Chuchu, you are so awesome!"
Mai Qiqi, however, was amused by Wan Chu’er’s phrase "Consider this a warning." Who seriously says "Consider this a warning"? She couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Seeing their reactions, Ma Tianjiao felt even less justified as they neither stood up for her against Wan Chu’er nor helped mediate but rather took joy in her misery. She suddenly felt overwhelmed with anger and exclaimed, "You’re all being too much," before covering her face and running out of the dormitory.
Mai Qiqi and Lin Yufei weren’t the kind to care for others’ feelings, and Wan Chu’er certainly wasn’t going to bother about Ma Tianjiao, so after Ma Tianjiao ran quite a distance, no one chased after her, adding to her feeling of being wronged.
When feeling aggrieved, one often thinks of home. Being pampered by her parents, Ma Tianjiao felt this even more acutely. She found a public phone and immediately called home.
"Mom—sob, sob" Upon hearing Mrs. Ma’s caring voice, Ma Tianjiao burst into tears, prompting Mrs. Ma to repeatedly ask what was wrong.
Ma Tianjiao, exaggerating the truth, complained that she had been bullied, specifically by a "country bumpkin" in the dorm.
Mrs. Ma was disturbed by the news and immediately advised Ma Tianjiao to report it to a teacher so that the teacher could handle the matter and teach Wan Chu’er a lesson.
Fortunately, Mr. Ma understood his daughter’s temperament well and, after asking for details again, roughly guessed the situation. Considering his daughter would be away from home for at least four years and might even end up working in Beijing after graduation, he thought this character trait wouldn’t do her any good. He decided to let her face this setback to educate her, advising her to stop dealing with Wan Chu’er in the future.
After shedding tears and acting spoilt with her parents, Ma Tianjiao finally calmed down. Realizing it was getting late and thinking to improve her living situation at her uncle’s place, she headed towards the dormitory.
But when she arrived, she found the door locked and a note stuck on it.
"Ma Tianjiao, we all went home. We waited for you for a long time and worried about leaving your crappy laptop behind, so we locked the door. If you don’t have the key, you can ask the dormitory Aunt for one. Lin Yufei."
Upon reading the note, Ma Tianjiao’s recently abated anger flared up again. She furiously tore the note into shreds, cursing her three roommates thoroughly as she vented.
Once she finally entered the dormitory, Ma Tianjiao angrily pushed Wan Chu’er’s desk to the ground, scattering everything on and in the drawers all around.
After blowing off steam, she remembered Wan Chu’er’s icy gaze and the kick to the chair. Biting her lip reluctantly, she crouched down to start picking up the items.
"Ah," Ma Tianjiao exclaimed in surprise.
She picked up a wad of paper which felt somewhat heavy in her hand; there was something hard wrapped inside it.
What could it be? So secretive and wrapped in a wad of paper, definitely nothing good.
Curious, Ma Tianjiao unwrapped the paper to find a jade pendant the size of a walnut inside. The jade appeared lush and translucent, its touch smooth and glossy; she instantly fell in love with it.
How did Wan Chu’er come to possess this? Could it be that it’s not hers, or perhaps it’s not something decent at all?
Her eyes shifted around, concluding it must be something worthless. Otherwise, why would Wan Chu’er wrap it in a mere scrap of paper?
Yes, it must be worthless, Ma Tianjiao thought and slipped the jade pendant into her own pocket.
Perhaps because she took something of Wan Chu’er’s, she felt a bit guilty, hurried to tidy up Wan Chu’er’s desk, grabbed a bag casually, and headed to her uncle’s house.
The jade pendant Ma Tianjiao took was actually the Tiger Roar Jade that Bai Zhixi had given to Wan Chu’er before leaving. How did it end up in a dormitory drawer?
It turned out that when Wan Chu’er was busy taking care of Bai Zhixi, she casually tucked the pendant into her pocket. After dealing with Bai’s matters, she completely forgot about it, apparently not taking the pendant or her great uncle seriously.
The day she packed clothes for school, she inadvertently included the clothes with the pendant in her luggage. Upon organizing her clothes at school, she found the pendant.
Since she was going to military training the next day, she thought about it, tore a piece of paper, wrapped the pendant in it, and placed it in her desk drawer, intending to bring it home later.
Today, due to a quarrel with Ma Tianjiao that left her agitated, she forgot about it again, and it ended up in Ma Tianjiao’s hands.
Setting aside the fact Ma Tianjiao stole Wan Chu’er’s item.
After reaching home, Wan Chu’er cleaned the house thoroughly, as it had gathered dust over a month of being unoccupied.
The next day, she slept in until the morning was bright, then took a basket to the nearby market to buy groceries.
After eating, she took out her ledger to do some accounting. She had paid several thousand in tuition and accommodation fees at the beginning of the term and had bought some daily necessities. Calculating it all, she had a little over thirty-four thousand left.
If there was no further income, surviving four years of university on this amount would be tough, especially since she planned to buy a good computer for her computer science major – not having one felt like scratching an itch through a shoe.
After much thought, she decided she had to increase her income; as for cutting costs, Wan Chu’er didn’t want to live too frugally, since money wasn’t something one could merely save excessively on.
That day, she went out to buy several newspapers to check job listings. After reviewing a few, she found the jobs unsatisfactory. She tossed them aside, thinking she would slowly find a suitable opportunity later.
The next day, Wan Chu’er resumed the routine she followed before her college entrance exams, waking up at 5:30 AM. After getting up, she read some English material, then went to a nearby park to run for an hour, followed by martial arts training.
The park was filled with elderly folks exercising. One old man took notice of Wan Chu’er and watched her for quite a while, nodding continuously.
When Wan Chu’er finished her routine and was about to head home, the old man approached with a smile and said, "Miss, you have good skills in boxing."
