Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 81 Politeness
Chapter 81: Chapter 81 Politeness
Upon hearing Wan Chu’er’s words, Teacher Zhu’s mouth twitched slightly. Afraid of trouble? Doesn’t want to be in the spotlight?
Since the founding of Wutong Middle School, no one has been more in the spotlight than Wan Chu’er.
But this outstanding student was her own protégée and even the provincial science top scorer, now so grateful. Naturally, Teacher Zhu beamed and happily accepted the money.
After leaving the school, Wan Chu’er went to see An Lian.
In the courtyard of An Lian’s house, upon entering, Wan Chu’er saw An Lian sitting on the steps. In front of him was a pot of an evergreen plant, and his lips moved as if he were saying something.
Wan Chu’er looked intently and felt that the pot of evergreen seemed very familiar.
Then she remembered, Bai Zhixi had once feared she would damage her eyes from constantly reading and studying, so she bought a bunch of green potted plants, placing them on the windowsill. Every time she read for a while, she would look at the plants to relieve visual fatigue.
The pot of evergreen in front of An Lian was indeed one of those plants Bai Zhixi bought. In recent days, due to Bai Zhixi’s illness, she had neglected to care for these plants, and most had died, except for this pot of evergreen.
It was an inanimate object that sparked memories of someone dear.
It seemed An Lian’s feelings for Bai Zhixi were deeper than she had imagined.
Indeed, Bai Zhixi was such a wonderful person. The more one knew her, the more they liked her. For Bai Zhixi, Wan Chu’er always thought she was the best woman in the world.
After noticing Wan Chu’er, An Lian felt somewhat embarrassed and stammered, "I saw that your mom used to water this plant frequently, and now there’s only this one left... You’re about to leave for college, so I took it upon myself to bring it back..."
His words were a bit incoherent, revealing his discomfort.
Wan Chu’er smiled faintly and said, "Thank you for remembering my mom and this plant."
When Bai Zhixi was mentioned, An Lian fell silent again, his gaze returning to the evergreen.
Wan Chu’er silently sighed in her heart, gathered her spirits, and said, "Teacher An, in a week, I’ll be leaving for Beijing. I came today to say goodbye and hope you’ll take care of yourself."
An Lian hesitantly raised his head, "It’s not yet time for your registration, is it?"
"I want to go to Beijing early."
An Lian nodded, assuming that Wan Chuer didn’t want to stay here surrounded by memories and agreed, saying:
"It’s good to go early. If you arrive before the school provides accommodation, you can go to your Brother An Gang. He graduated this year and rented a house in Beijing. You can stay with him initially. Hold on, I’ll give you his number. If anything comes up in Beijing, call him. I’ll ask him to take care of you."
This was An Lian’s goodwill. Although Wan Chu’er did not intend to contact An Gang, she still accepted his phone number, thanked him, and left.
Then Wan Chu’er went to the Glass Factory Family Quarters. Aunt Ma had mentioned a few days ago that someone wanted to buy her house. It was during Bai Zhixi’s last days, so she hadn’t managed to handle it.
When Aunt Ma saw Wan Chu’er, she grabbed her hand and sighed.
"Oh, your mom was such a good person. How could she just be gone like that? All of us old neighbors and colleagues feel it’s such a pity. Good people don’t live long, while evil ones linger.
But the most pitiable is you. Already without a dad, now you don’t even have a mom. Visit often, even though your mom is not here anymore, we are all your family. We’ve all watched you grow up..."
Wan Chu’er replied sadly, "Thank you."
Only now did she realize the goodness of these old neighbors. When Bai Zhixi passed, she hadn’t informed them, yet many came to bid her farewell.
Aunt Ma had comforted her several times back then.
"Silly child, don’t mention thanks anymore." Aunt Ma said.
Wan Chu’er nodded and changed the topic, "You mentioned a few days ago that someone wanted to buy our house? Could you help arrange a meeting with that person? I want to settle it soon if the price is right."
"Oh, okay. Are you still staying at that small courtyard near the market these days? I’ll bring the person directly to you once I arrange the meeting. Don’t worry, Aunt Ma will be there to support you, making sure you don’t suffer any losses."
"Okay," Wan Chu’er gratefully replied.
After leaving Aunt Ma’s house, Wan Chu’er received a wave of sympathy and comfort from old neighbors.
In her past life, these people had the same attitude, yet she took their kindness as a joke and thought they were mocking her, feeling sorry for her, and she had scolded them.
This time, Wan Chu’er naturally wouldn’t be as reckless as in her previous life. She accepted their goodwill one by one and expressed her thanks.
As she walked out the door, she could hear someone behind her saying, "Chuchu has become more sensible, her mom taught her well, just as polite as Shi Guo."
Hearing this, Wan Chu’er almost shed tears.
In her past life, she was many times pointed at and scolded for lacking family education, for her parents not teaching her properly.
On her way, she casually picked a restaurant to have lunch before walking slowly back home.
From a distance, she saw the upright figure of Jiang Kechu. He was carrying a large bag of fruit in one hand and a cloth bag in the other, silently standing under the crooked elm tree at the courtyard gate.
Wan Chu’er slowed her pace. In an instant, she figured out how to face Jiang Kechu.
Since this life wasn’t going to entangle with him, she would treat him politely and courteously.
"Uncle Jiang, hello."
Hearing this title, Jiang Kechu felt an ache as if he’d been punched in the gut. He had been waiting here for two hours, and now Wan Chu’er hit him with this.
Did he look that old?!
Wan Chu’er noticed Jiang Kechu’s nostrils flaring slightly and couldn’t help blinking. This was a sign that Jiang Kechu was unhappy.
She quickly turned to open the door, saying, "Please come inside."
Once inside the courtyard, she found that there was no furniture to sit on anymore. All the tables and chairs had been sold yesterday.
Jiang Kechu also noticed this. He placed the items on the steps below the windowsill.
After setting things down, he glanced around. Though he had hurriedly looked around yesterday, now he felt the emptiness more acutely and couldn’t help frowning:
"I heard about your mother’s unfortunate passing. On behalf of the troops, I extend my condolences. I hope you can muster up your spirits, remain resilient, and live life to the fullest."
It all sounded like a template speech. Wan Chu’er internally mocked but outwardly showed gratitude, "Thank you. Thanks to the troops for the care."
Jiang Kechu’s eyes narrowed. He felt that something was off with Wan Chu’er.
The last time they met, this girl was so proud and overbearing, almost like a triumphant rooster. Now, she had become so gentle, harmless, and pitifully fragile. Could Bai Zhixi’s death have impacted her so severely?
Jiang Kechu shelved his speculations and continued, "I heard you got accepted into the first university in Beijing. Congratulations."
Wan Chu’er: "Thank you."
