Chapter 128: Chapter 128 Sawing Contest

After a while, fragrant smells wafted from the kitchen, causing Wan Chu’er’s mouth to water with hunger.

She sped up her pace and quickly finished coding the current feature. With a save, she trotted to the bathroom to wash her hands and then sat at the dining table, waiting for the meal to begin.

The dining table faced the glass door of the kitchen, and through it, she could see Jiang Kechu busily working inside.

Jiang Kechu’s cooking was actually quite good. In her previous life, Jiang Kechu had cooked for her a few times. Since she usually lived at the Jiang Family’s house and they had a housekeeper, there was no need for him to cook.

How long had it been since she’d seen this scene, since she’d tasted a meal made by Jiang Kechu?

Wan Chu’er rested her chin on her hands, staring blankly at Jiang Kechu in the kitchen.

The meal was ready soon, and Jiang Kechu ladled it into bowls before turning to carry them out.

As he turned around, he saw Wan Chu’er intently watching him, his heart stirred, but he said calmly, "It’s ready. Go get two pairs of chopsticks."

Wan Chu’er snapped out of her daze with an "Oh," and got up to fetch the chopsticks from the kitchen.

Eh, why was she being so obedient?

Wan Chu’er stood in the kitchen, biting her lip with the chopsticks in her hand, justifying it as her being hungry.

Jiang Kechu had made noodles, tomato and egg noodles, with a couple of green vegetables added. It looked quite appetizing with its red and green colors, and the taste was just right as well.

Wan Chu’er gobbled up the food as if she hadn’t eaten in ages.

Watching her, Jiang Kechu felt a pang of distress and said, "Eat slowly, chew carefully."

Wan Chu’er acted as though she didn’t hear him, but she slowed down anyway.

After finishing the last sip of soup, Wan Chu’er felt a sense of comfort both physically and mentally.

She pushed her bowl to the side and watched Jiang Kechu eat. There wasn’t much left in his bowl, and he finished it in two bites.

"Let’s talk."

"Let’s talk."

Both said the same thing at the same time.

Yet, both of them remained unflustered, just calmly looking at each other.

Wan Chu’er inwardly grumbled and quickly said, "You first."

Jiang Kechu raised an eyebrow and asked, "What have you been busy with recently? Why haven’t you been eating properly? Don’t you know ’people are iron and food is steel’? No matter how capable you are, if you don’t take care of your body, you won’t be able to do anything..."

He had the air of someone about to give a long sermon.

Wan Chu’er realized that whenever Jiang Kechu faced her, he was always nagging. Was she really such a worry to him?

The thought flashed through her mind, and she raised her hand to interrupt him, saying calmly, "Uncle Jiang, you can’t go on like this."

Jiang Kechu’s gaze deepened as he looked at Wan Chu’er.

Wan Chu’er continued, "I’ll take care of my own health, don’t worry. I’ll definitely have three square meals a day from now on. But you can’t keep doing this, you have your own career and should have your own life. Stop focusing so much on me."

As she saw Jiang Kechu’s expression grow more displeased, Wan Chu’er cleared her throat, pushing through the pressure to say:

"Um... you should find a girlfriend to start your own happy life."

Phew, she finally said it all.

Jiang Kechu didn’t respond for a long time and just looked at Wan Chu’er, making her feel uneasy. Despite that, she didn’t want to show weakness and tried to maintain an indifferent facade.

"First tell me what you’ve been so busy with that you can’t even find time to eat."

Um...

He pondered for so long just to ask this? Wan Chu’er really felt like hitting someone.

"Just developing a game for fun."

Jiang Kechu watched her with disbelief. This girl always avoided giving him a straight answer, always trying to muddle through—always taking things lightly.

Wan Chu’er helplessly said, "Alright, alright, I’ve been learning programming for almost a year now. I just wanted to use what I’ve learned to make something and sell it to.make money. I have no parents; one has to make a living, right?"

Jiang Kechu then asked, "Is it very urgent?"

"It’s not very urgent. I still have some money, at least enough to last for another two years. But, when I get to work on something, I just forget the time. You know, with programming and all, you have to press on. Doing it slowly, it’s easy to forget stuff."

She added another sentence: "Don’t worry, no matter how busy I am in the future, I will definitely eat on time. I can set an alarm, and when the alarm goes off, I’ll eat."

Jiang Kechu looked at her intently and shook his head, "I’m not reassured. You don’t look reliable at all."

He glanced at the slim Wan Chu’er.

Uh...

Wan Chu’er was about to go crazy. She clenched her fists and pounded the desk, Jiang Kechu always had a way of driving her into a rage.

"So what do you want, Uncle Jiang?"

She deliberately emphasized the last three words, reminding Jiang Kechu, you’re an uncle.

Just an uncle!

Jiang Kechu seemed to be oblivious to Wan Chu’er’s impatience and said, "You usually stay at home on weekends. From now on, I’ll come over to make sure you eat three meals a day during weekends until you gain some weight.."

"No way!"

"Then I’ll also come over on weekday evenings."

"You wouldn’t dare!"

Jiang Kechu fell silent again, just looking at Wan Chu’er definitively, with an expression that left no room for negotiation.

Wan Chu’er glared at him.

Neither of them would give in, so they were at a standoff.

Unable to contain her anger, Wan Chu’er grabbed Jiang Kechu’s hand from the table and bit down hard on it, biting fiercely to vent her frustration before letting go of his hand.

Throughout this, Jiang Kechu just frowned and tensed his muscles, letting her blow off steam.

Looking at the red bite mark on Jiang Kechu’s hand, Wan Chu’er said furiously, "What on earth are you trying to do?"

Jiang Kechu looked down at the bite mark, his eyes brimming with amusement. She hadn’t been willing to bite hard; she didn’t even draw blood.

Seeing Jiang Kechu suddenly gaze at her with such gentleness, Wan Chu’er felt goosebumps all over in an instant and she said defensively:

"Jiang Kechu, don’t mess around! I really don’t want to be involved with you in any way!"

It was the first time she called him by his name.

Jiang Kechu.

Hearing his name coming from her mouth, Jiang Kechu felt a tremor and said with a faint smile, "I won’t mess around, don’t worry."

How unsettling it was, Jiang Kechu actually smiled at her, crazy!

Wan Chu’er felt a sense of powerlessness. How can this man be so shameless?

Alright, he’s always been as thick-skinned as a city wall.

After thinking it over, Wan Chu’er gritted her teeth and played her trump card, "Uncle Jiang, you’re so much older than me. Every time I see you, you remind me of my dad. Since you care so much about me, why don’t I recognize you as my godfather?"

Alright, in a few years, godfathers are nothing good.

Now that godfathers aren’t bad, might as well make do for now, to deal with Jiang Kechu.

As expected, upon hearing Wan Chu’er’s words, Jiang Kechu’s face darkened and his forehead vein throbbed. Taking a deep breath, he said through clenched teeth, "I don’t have a daughter as old as you!"

Provoking Jiang Kechu once was okay, but Wan Chu’er did not have the guts to provoke him a second time, quickly waving her hand and saying, "Look, it’s getting late. I need to rest early and fatten up. You should leave now."

Jiang Kechu gave her a deep look and stood up, saying, "I’ll leave after washing the dishes." Then he took the dishes and went into the kitchen.

Wan Chu’er let out a groan and slumped onto the table.

Did he really have to be so virtuous?!
