Reawakening with Limitless Mana-Chapter 61: Preparation
Chapter 61: Preparation
[Two days ago.]
Kevin sat quietly inside the massive examination hall, waiting for the written assessment to begin.
There were more than five hundred students around him, each one from a different corner of the nation. He even noticed a few who seemed to have come from foreign lands.
But that wasn’t too surprising. After all, the Academy stood above all others—it had the best facilities, the highest standards, and the most difficult entrance exams. Becoming a teacher here was considered a great honor. The process for them was said to be ten times tougher than what Kevin was about to face.
Once a person get admitted here, there was a very thin chance of him to become a useless unemployed person after graduation.
And with that success rate, it was no surprise that there were so many who wanted to become a part of the Obsidian Spire.
"Nervous?" a soft whisper came from the girl beside him—Anastasia.
They had met earlier near the entrance and decided to enter together. She had arrived with a butler, since her family was, as she’d said with a shrug, "too busy" to come with her. And since the Capital wasn’t far from the Academy, she didn’t seem too bothered.
Kevin gave a small nod. "Anyone would be."
He wasn’t particularly afraid of battle—after all, after seeing some young warriors train recently, he’d realized that thanks to Arthur and his father, he could probably stand his ground against a real soldier.
Compared to those students who liked to shout out flashy spells and swing their blades in exaggerated ways, Kevin had real strength. Real training.
But written exams? That was where doubt crept in.
"You look prepared, though," Anastasia murmured, almost as if she hadn’t meant to say it out loud.
Kevin turned to her, curious. "How can you tell?"
She looked a little caught off guard but smiled anyway. "I saw you earlier. You were sitting at the edge of your carriage, reading your notes. There were people moving all around you, but you didn’t even flinch. You just kept reading—focused and calm. I thought that was... impressive."
Kevin felt his face warm slightly. Being praised—especially by someone like her—wasn’t something he was used to.
He smiled, a little shyly. "It’s just... my brother made those notes. They’re easy to follow, and he explains things in a way that’s really clear. Makes learning feel simple."
Anastasia’s eyes widened. "Your brother? He’s younger than you, right? And he made those notes for you?"
She sounded genuinely surprised.
"Yeah," Kevin said, leaning back in his seat. His voice grew softer, more thoughtful. "Most of us are busy trying to prepare for this assessment. But him... I think the Academy might need to prepare for him."
There was something in his tone—quiet pride mixed with deep admiration.
Anastasia smiled, her expression soft and fond. "You have a very good brother."
Kevin nodded without hesitation. "Undoubtedly."
There was a brief silence before he turned to her again. "What about His Highness Eric? How’s he doing?"
Anastasia let out a light laugh—warm and bright, like sunlight breaking through clouds. To Kevin, it was music. Sweet, golden, and just a little dangerous. He couldn’t help but think that her laughter is kind of addictive...
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said, "He’s been training like a man possessed these past few years. He’s already broken over a hundred swords—and shattered the confidence of more than twenty swordsmen."
Kevin raised an eyebrow, amused. "Sounds like he’s a bit restless."
The Princess gave a small nod. "Ever since his battle with Arthur, something changed in him. He found a purpose—and now, he’s completely focused on chasing it."
Her voice held a strange mix of pride and concern. Kevin could hear it, faint but real. Maybe she admired her brother, or maybe she worried the path he’d chosen was burning too hot.
Either way, the air between them grew quiet again—comfortably so, as the distant murmurs of the examination hall faded into the background.

Only four days remained before Arthur would have to leave for Durnhalm.
Lately, he’d been spending most of his time in the forest, working to build a stronger bond with the Terra Spirits.
Using nature as his training ground, he wasn’t focused on unlocking new spells. Instead, he poured his energy into mastering the basics—refining them until they felt like second nature.
He believed in being a master of one, rather than a jack of all trades.
’I’ve been slacking on sword training though...’ he thought with a small sigh.
It wasn’t entirely his fault. The best way to sharpen his swordsmanship was through sparring, but there weren’t any decent swordsmen nearby. And with his father away from town, his options were close to none.
The truth was, times had changed.
With the rise of magical tools and the surge in population, most wealthy families now hire soldiers for protection. But in the past, learning how to fight had been a basic necessity, not a choice.
Back then, demons and humans shared the same world. And the demons ruled it.
They raided towns, slaughtered innocents, and abducted them. Back then, knowing how to fight wasn’t a talent—it was survival.
{Your brother looked satisfied after his exams,} a small voice chimed in his ear.
Arthur smiled softly at the spirit’s words.
Kevin had always dreaded the written tests more than anything else. If he managed to pass them with decent marks, there was little doubt—he wouldn’t be coming back home anytime soon.
Looking at the moon, he sat down and decided to continue his training.
He still had no idea what kind of foe he would need to face in Durnhalm to protect the Chosen One, that’s why he was preparing for the worst.
Naturally, he wasn’t going to sacrifice himself to protect her. After all, for him, his family and this world held much more importance.
