Chapter 36: Challenge-1

About two hundred kilometers away from Westmere, in a quiet little town, stood a large mansion that covered a big part of the land it sat on. The mansion was grand and old, with tall windows and a wide stone staircase leading up to its front doors. All around it stretched several yards of open space, filled with neatly kept gardens.

Bright flowers bloomed in rows, bushes were trimmed into perfect shapes, and stone paths curved gently through the greenery. Trees lined the edges of the property, offering shade and a sense of calm. The peaceful setting made the mansion feel both elegant and a bit mysterious.

However, this was no place for tourism. Not only because it was private property but also because a place so heavily guarded always keeps tourists far away.

Every side of the mansion was under heavy security. Soldiers wearing shining armor and with their weapons strapped to their sides marched around while keeping an eye on the surroundings.

Inside the mansion, too, the number of soldiers easily exceeded a hundred who had an eye on everything happening inside.

The person who owns the place undoubtedly was a cautious man who has lived most of his life as a ruler, but now, all he does is exploit his power and influence to expand his son’s reach.

"He hasn’t responded yet." Inside his study sat the man who owns the heavily guarded property, currently eating some nuts.

"Should I send some people and check on him?" The tall man standing behind the owner asked in a heavy voice.

He was a tall man standing at a height of 6’3 with broad shoulders, curly black hair, and a white mask on his face. His very presence could make people suffocate in the room, however the only person other than him inside the room wasn’t wary of him.

After all, the ex-Viscount knows how loyal his servant was to him.

"If that bastard doesn’t get him here by evening go and hunt that dog by yourself," Turner spoke with a scowl.

A simple task he gave to Scott—abduct that dog named Aston and drag him to his feet. However, despite being over a day since he relayed the orders he has received no response.

"Do you think he betrayed us?" Turner asked in a low tone, his aura signifying the agitation he was feeling.

Although the task was simple, it held great importance to Turner.

It has been over ten years since that day when a mere commoner told him that he would marry his daughter. Turner had to remain silent at that time since he was sick. And later, when his son took over, he just forgot about the revenge completely. He said that they should move on.

’As if I could ever forget those daring eyes...’ Each moment of that day still lives green in his mind. Turner couldn’t forget how a vermin dared to raise his eyes before him. And for that insult, Turner would slaughter that man. He would be sliced into pieces before being fed to crows.

But he would keep the head safe so he could gift it to his daughter on her wedding anniversary.

*RATTLE*

Both men turned toward the window as they heard the glass shaking.

Not only that, Ross heard several hurried footsteps outside, as if the soldiers were in a rush.

"I will go have a look." The black-haired man said before he moved out of the room.

Turner had a frown on his face as he moved his wheelchair toward the window.

There was a sense of apprehension that was born in his chest as he slowly reached the window...and froze in shock upon seeing the scenery outside.

"Wh-What?"

He couldn’t believe what his eyes were showing him.

Outside, chaos had swallowed the mansion grounds. The land was no longer dry—it was completely covered in water like a flood had hit the place. Soldiers were shouting, slipping, drowning—running in every direction, but nowhere was safe.

Floating high in the air was a small black-haired child. His body was surrounded by a glowing orb of water, spinning slowly around him like a living shield. His eyes were cold, distant. He wasn’t even moving—but everything around him was.

Huge dragons made of pure water slithered and crashed across the grounds. Their bodies surged like rivers, their jaws opened wide as they lunged at the soldiers. One snapped its head down and crushed three men at once, dragging them underwater before vanishing in a burst of foam. Another dragon coiled around a squad, squeezing tight until screams stopped.

Weapons did nothing. Swords passed through the water beasts as if they weren’t real. Magic attacks fizzled out, absorbed by the flood. Even the strongest among the guards were helpless, tossed aside like toys.

It wasn’t a fight. It was a slaughter.

Turner’s hands trembled on the window sill. The air felt colder and heavier.

Suddenly, the boy’s eyes snapped toward him, and Turner recoiled back, his heart drumming in his chest.

Turner narrowed his eyes and read the lips of the kid,

’YOU ARE NEXT’

Turner gritted his teeth. Who this brat was to come to his place and threaten him?!

"Ross!" Turner smashed the window and shouted the name.

Instantly, a huge man jumped on the ground and the water dragons lost their form.

Ross slammed his hands on the ground and several golems protruded from the ground, catching the soldiers and destroying the water creatures.

Meanwhile, Turner has pushed himself off the wheelchair, using ’Augmentation’ to supply vitality to his legs before he jumped from the second floor and landed before the brat.

Even though his spells had been dissipated, he still levitated there nonchalantly.

Turner growled, "State your identity before I rip that head off your shoulders."

Arthur calmly hopped off the platform and cracked his fingers, "Ex-Viscount Turner, nice to meet you."

"Speak politely kid," Ross growled, his mana radiating dangerously.

Arthur ignored him and continued, "I came here to execute the man who harmed my father...however, I changed my plan." freёnovelkiss.com

Turner’s brows creased and then realization struck him, "You are that dog’s son?!"

Arthur chuckled, "You consider yourself all high and mighty, right? All because of this single man standing behind you as a shield?"

Turner scoffed, "You think such petty tricks would work on me?"

"Oh, no Turner. I do not hope to provoke you so you jump on me. I will kill you but only after shattering that pride."

Turner’s eyes turned cold but he remained silent.

Arthur turned toward the huge man before telling him, "You take pride in combat, right?" Arthur took the sword from the nearby fallen soldier and took the stance.

Ross also took out his battle axe and pointed it at Arthur, "Not the father but surely someone from the Stronghart family would die today."

Arthur grinned. He liked it when people showed over-confidence. It makes things easier.
