Reawakening with Limitless Mana-Chapter 34: Remedy
Chapter 34: Remedy
They returned home not so long after.
The water prison was finally lifted and Kevin was startled to see his father being carried into the house by Bowman and Arthur.
"W-What happened to him?" Kevin was, naturally, flabbergasted and horrified to see their condition.
"Someone attacked them. Please bring some warm water and a clean cloth." Arthur told him hurriedly as he took his father to the bedroom followed by Virelle.
Kevin might have many questions in mind, but he didn’t think twice before heading toward the kitchen and heating up the pot filled with water.
His brows were tightly knitted as he realized the reason his brother rushed out of the house, leaving him here.
He must have gotten the news somehow; he still doesn’t know how and decided to keep Kevin safe by locking him up here.
"Hey, is it done?" Arthur reached the kitchen and asked.
Kevin nodded as he gave some space for Arthur to take the pot.
Just as Arthur lifted it, he heard his brother asking, "Hey, Art...am I that unreliable?"
Arthur knew it was coming. After all, in times of crisis, he didn’t trust his brother and rushed to the scene all alone.
Arthur didn’t offer flowery words; rather, he chose to reveal the truth, "Under normal circumstances, I would have brought you along for help. But in your current state, you would have been nothing but a burden." Saying such, he stepped toward the room, leaving a stunned Kevin behind.
The blond boy took a few moments to think about what he said. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Emotionally, Kevin was hurt. But his rational mind told him that Arthur had made the right decision. The bad man who hurt his father might have hurt Kevin as well if he had gone there to fight them in his current condition.
Silently, he also made his way towards the room.
Aston’s body was getting washed with the cloth and the warm water. The smell of blood was still quite fresh and that could lead to infection.
"What do you need right now?" Arthur asked as he wiped his father’s arms.
Kevin also stepped forward to help, gaining a look from Arthur.
Bowman informed him, "I will write down a few herbs which would help in improving his condition for now...but we need Redroot by tomorrow anyhow." Redroot is the same expensive herb that builds blood inside a person rapidly.
Considering Aston couldn’t survive while being so low on blood for long the Redroot was required urgently.
"I understand. I will bring everything by midnight, don’t worry."
Bowman still had no idea how they would afford the Redroot, but he didn’t question him further and wrote everything required to start the treatment with appropriate quantity and how much they might cost.
Arthur took the note before turning towards his brother, "I am leaving the house and our parents in your care."
Kevin nodded with a serious expression, "I’ve got this." He might not be useful on the battlefield but he surely could take care of injured ones.
"Art, come with me." His mother told him before she took out something from the cupboard and stepped out of the room.
Arthur already realized what it could be, so he didn’t show surprise when his mother handed him a pouch of gold, "You can buy two Redroots and a few other things listed in it...by tomorrow, I will ask for a loan from-"
"Mother, I have the money to buy everything. So please go rest."
Virelle was startled, "You have? But how?"
Arthur didn’t find it appropriate to explain things so he just told her, "It’s not illegal money, I assure you. I have earned it throughout the years. So go now and be with Father. Leave this to me."
Virelle was still unsure and slightly concerned about how her ten-year-old boy could have funds to buy such expensive ingredients.
....however, if she doesn’t trust him, then who will? She knows her children, and they would never steal money from someone.
Resting her hand on Arthur’s shoulder, Virelle softly said, "It’s truly a blessing...to have a child like you..."
Arthur just lowered his head and took a few moments to relish this warmth that only his Mother could provide him.
Blessing? Him? No...Arthur was blessed for the good deeds he had done in his past life to attain such a good family.
And he was well set on protecting them at any cost.
....
Arthur marched toward Atinberge once again, since all the herbs listed in the note could be found there.
The concrete routes allow the town to attract traders from all over the world. And thanks to the hot springs and other tourist places, Atinberg has always been a good market for traders.
Call it him being paranoid, but Arthur has surrounded the whole town with a water barrier for now. Since it was already late at night, he knew no one would leave the town at the moment. And this way, if there was anyone who was planning to attack his family again, at least Arthur would know immediately.
’Tch...’ Arthur clicked his tongue once he reached the town.
Most of the shops have been shut down.
The ones that were open were mainly brothels and bars.
Arthur decided to take the help of a local.
Looking at a group of drunkards coming out of the bar, he approached them and asked, "Bring me to the best herb shop in the town. I will pay you."
The group turned towards the kid, and upon seeing the pouch in his hand, they grinned.
One of them advanced towards Arthur and said, "Kid, having so much money at such a young age is no good. Come on, let me-auuuuu!" The man let out a sharp grunt as two fingers suddenly jammed up his nostrils, hooking deep inside. A moment later, they yanked outward with brutal force, stretching the skin until it felt like his nose might tear clean off his face. Pain shot through his skull, his eyes watered instantly, and a guttural cry tore from his throat.
"Listen, you as*wipe, I am already on the verge of losing it, so unless you want me to resort to violence, take me to the shop right now."
The man’s eyes were filled with tears as he glanced at his men, hoping for help....but they were all gone the moment they sensed the overwhelming mana radiating from the boy.
"Helping or not?"
"Aaahh! I will! I will!" He hurriedly said and finally got his nose liberated.
The man touched his slightly swollen nose as he said, "C-Come with me..."
He took him to a shop that was slightly far from that district.
Naturally, the shop was closed so the man said, "He lives upstairs. Should I call him?"
Arthur shook his head, "No, you can go now." Just as those words left his lips, the man fled.
Arthur climbed the stairs and reached the door where the shopkeeper lives
*Knock* *Knock*
A grumpy voice responded from the other end before the door was strongly pulled from the other side, "Who the fuc-"
"I need herbs. A lot of them. Here is your payment."
The man barely caught the pouch the kid threw at him before looking inside it.
And upon finding precious rubies inside, his mind went blank for a moment.
"...what exactly do you want?"
Arthur handed him the note and told the man, "Get me all this."
The shopkeeper glanced between Arthur and the list twice before saying, "The amount is not fair for the things you demand."
Arthur clicked his tongue...the guy is taking advantage of his situation.
Thankfully, he had brought another pouch...but then he stopped when he saw the man suddenly taking out a few rubies from the pouch and handing the rest back.
With a nod, he said, "This much would do. Now come with me downstairs."
