Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster-Chapter 96: Some Information About The Depths
"I'm back... You two seem to have gotten along?" Seryn remarked, approaching closer.
By now, Caedia was fully healed, yet she had still been rubbing her left cheek since earlier.
"Pfft..." Rael held back a laugh as he turned to Seryn. "No ships, right?"
Seryn shook his head. "None, though the people did seem to be a little aggressive. I'd guess they aren't actually the residents."
"Yeah, you guessed right," Rael nodded. "This empress over here invaded this city for some item, and now that she's got it, I'm taking her with us."
"Why? Just kill her and take the item?" Seryn tilted his head. "She seems like a burden—at least strength-wise, she's not very useful."
"I heard that..." Caedia muttered. "Also, I'm not going to be baggage."
"If you say so." Seryn shrugged, turning to Rael. "So what's the plan now? Are we going to change seating arrangements?"
Rael scoffed. "Nice try, but no, Sweepus is still shotgun."
Nonetheless, now that they were all here and their banter was over, it was about time they got to more pressing matters.
"Karnyx is fucked, right?"
"Pretty much," Seryn affirmed. "Most of the food stalls are looted, some houses are destroyed."
"A shitshow..." Rael finished.
It wasn't surprising since life in the Depths was much harsher than back in his own world, so he wasn't even going to bother judging them.
After all, being a hypocrite wasn't on his agenda.
Despite that, he summoned the car, and Seryn immediately got inside and within seconds, fell asleep.
Caedia seemed a bit confused, so he opened the door for her. "Get in. It's like a carriage, just a bit faster."
Obviously, it was more than a bit faster, but she'd find out in just a moment.
"Very well..." Caedia took a seat in the back as a surprised expression appeared on her face. "These cushions are very comfortable."
"I know, it's an expensive car, so don't tear it—for my wallet's sake," Rael added and sat down in the driver's seat.
Sweepus was immediately taken out of storage and placed in the passenger seat, and with that, he put the car into autopilot.
The monument was behind Karnyx, and as the car sped through the streets, he actually got a good glimpse of the surroundings.
They were bleak because of the invasion, but he was surprised by the number of stalls around.
It was a merchant city, clearly.
They had wares of all sorts—armor, clothing, even edible food. They had it all.
A valuable city, too bad it fell... Rael turned to Caedia. "Did you kill the ruler?"
She shook her head. "I tied him up and hung him upside down near the town hall. The civilians likely already untied him."
"Aha..." Rael nodded. "While we're at it, can you tell me about the Depths?"
"Like what?" Caedia asked. "There is a lot of stuff I know, but I doubt I'm even touching the tip of the iceberg for this place."
"Let's start off with the basics then," Rael said. "How many continents are there?"
"Eleven that I know of. We're on the Valheria continent," Caedia replied instantly.
Eleven continents that she knows of...? So there could be more? Rael thought.
He had expected this place to be massive, but not that massive.
"How big is Valheria compared to the other continents?"
"Second smallest," Caedia stated. "Gremgor is the smallest continent, which is to the west. None of us have gotten there since the ships have been confiscated by the people living in the Scorched Lands."
"Those are the red lands, right?" Rael asked, and she nodded.
"Volkrath and Kurozan are the two cities that control all our trade, movement, all of that. We can't even enter the Scorched Lands because of their pet spider..."
"I see..." Rael muttered. "How about rulers? Do the Depths have someone like that?"
"You could say that, yes," Caedia replied. "The Depths have strong monsters watching over the continents, and the Beast just so happens to be the one in charge of watching over us."
"But why does it kill people and infect them then?" Rael asked.
"Nobody knows how people are chosen to arrive in this place, but some consider the Beast's cruel acts a blessing," Caedia said, shrugging. "No one knows what happens to us after we die in the Depths, so maybe we go back to our previous lives?"
"Well, you said the key would bring you back, right?" Rael wondered. However, he was left speechless at her lack of response.
"So it's just some fairy tale you heard? Is that it?"
Caedia stared him straight in the eyes for a few moments before slowly nodding.
What a fucked perspective... this is borderline religious, Rael thought with a sigh.
"So each continent has a monster similar to the Beast then? Is our Beast strong?"
She shrugged. "No one knows. From the limited information I have, I do know the other continents have similar pop-ups when their monsters begin their hunt, so I'd wager they're all about the same strength."
So when the Beast mentioned a fuss 400 years ago, it probably meant the other continent-ruling monsters, huh? Rael deduced, then slumped in his seat.
This was a lot of stuff to take in, and he knew he was nowhere close to tackling it head-on.
After all, in the grand scheme of things, he was still incredibly weak.
Nonetheless, as silence once again returned to the car, he glanced toward the road.

To his surprise, they had already arrived at the monument, and yet again, there were no monsters.
That motherfucker... Rael furrowed his brows and stepped out of the car before approaching a familiar blood engraving on the ground.
'I killed these ones by accident, my bad.'
Fuck you. Rael kicked the ground and began walking toward the monument.
Caedia stepped out of the car, startled. "W-What do you think you're doing?"
"I'm going to light this thing," Rael replied, and after a few moments of searching, he found the torch buried in the ground before tossing it into the bonfire.
"W-Wait!" Caedia yelled. "Don't you know what happens when you light th—Wait... you two aren't the ones going around lighting the monuments... right?"
Rael didn't bother denying it. "Mayhaps."
And while she was staring at him with a shocked look, Rael lit the fire.

Just as Rael was about to dig into the Ember, a certain set of pop-ups made him halt.
