Chapter 188: Urgent Matter

[Rael’s POV]

After Rael and Zafira finished eating and testing the bed, they got dressed in more regal attire and left the room.

It seemed like Aria and Evelyn were already waiting for them, so Rael merely waved.

“Are you ready?” he asked.

“Mhm.” Aria nodded. “I’ll go to my father’s side the moment the summit officially starts, if you don’t mind.”

“That should be fine. Just don’t stray anywhere,” Rael replied. “Also, has Linlin arrived yet?”

“Not exactly. But I feel that she’s not too far away,” Evelyn commented. “She’s… she’s stumbling quite a lot though…”

Rael tilted his head. “Hmm? What do you mean?”

“I think she means Linlin can’t walk properly, Rael,” Zafira said plainly as she gently elbowed him.

He rolled his eyes but didn’t answer.

Something seemed off. Very off.

Qiqi wouldn’t just leave the group unless Linlin and she had a falling out. He couldn’t be sure, as he didn’t remember the sibling relationship he supposedly had with his sister.

Still… you don’t just leave the fucking group. That’s stupid. And Qiqi seemed pretty calm to do something so irrational… Rael pondered. But I guess I’ll see when Linlin gets here.

“Zafira, where’s this thing being held exactly? In the castle?” he asked.

She shook her head. “There’s a circular courtroom surrounded by shallow water behind the castle. It’s a very safe spot from what I’ve heard, and the view is nice. Apparently, they have the mythical cherry blossom trees there too.”

Noticing the subtle wonder in her tone, Rael raised a brow.

“I’ll make you a cherry blossom forest after we’re back, my queen,” he teased, causing her to giggle.

Nonetheless, a minute passed, and finally, Linlin barged through the door.

However, she didn’t seem her usual self. Not in the slightest. freewёbnoνel.com

Her eyes were red, almost as if she had been crying, and her clothes were stained in mud, even a bit of blood.

Rael frowned. “Are you alright?”

“N-No…” Linlin replied, gasping as she struggled for breath.

“Calm down.” Rael grabbed her shoulders and sat down on the ground, setting her head down on his thighs. “Breathe.”

Linlin seemed flustered, but upon meeting his gaze, her breathing gradually slowed until it returned to normal.

“Good.” Rael nodded as he reached into the premium shop and bought a soothing potion.

He waved it around in his hands, making sure Linlin saw. The moment she did, she opened her mouth slightly.

Rael immediately poured it into her mouth, then tossed the empty vial into his inventory, waiting for the effects to kick in.

“Zafira,” Rael called out with a sigh. “What’s the time?”

“We have 17 minutes left until we need to be there for the initial introductions. But if we choose to not show up for them and only show up for the main summit, then we have around 37 minutes,” Zafira explained. “But it’s better for us to show up. Otherwise, we won’t have as much leverage.”

“I see…” Rael nodded slowly before turning to Linlin, who, by now, seemed to finally snap out of her panic attack.

“What’s wrong?”

“My sister… I think she was kidnapped,” Linlin muttered in a shaky voice.

And the moment her words fell, silence enveloped the entire manor, with the only sound being Linlin’s suppressed sniffles.

Rael took a deep breath and stood up, setting Linlin down onto her feet.

She was a bit wobbly, but better than earlier.

“When?” Rael asked with a serious, cold tone. “Was it before or after she left the group?”

“After…” Linlin replied. “We had an argument, she left the organization, and stormed off to the other side of the alley. After that, I lost all connection to her. Even with my threads, I couldn’t find her anywhere.”

Rael stared at the trembling Linlin for a few moments before turning to Zafira.

She, like the rest of the people present, had a serious look on her face.

And she already knew what he was going to ask, almost as if they were perfectly in sync.

“This situation takes priority, Rael,” Zafira said. “I can deal with the initial introductions. But I won’t be able to delay the actual start of the summit. Can you finish up by then?”

A faint grin appeared on Rael’s face. “I’ll be back before the initial introductions even begin.”

He walked over to Zafira, and in front of everyone, placed a kiss on her lips, and gently touched his forehead to hers.

“Be back soon.”

Her earlier serious expression crumbled, replaced by an uncontrollable smile. “Don’t get yourself kidnapped too, okay?”

“Of course,” Rael replied, turning to Linlin. “Lead me to where you last saw Qiqi.”

“You’re really going to help me?” Linlin asked in disbelief.

Rael tilted his head. “Well, why not? You’re in need of help, and I can grant you the help you need.”

Hearing that, Linlin wiped away the faint tears that had formed in her eyes, and with a determined look, ran out of the manor.

Rael flashed one last glance at Zafira, Aria, and Evelyn before running after Linlin.

She was pretty fast, but definitely nowhere near his speed as he had to slow down considerably.

Nonetheless, after a solid minute, they arrived, and immediately, the stench of blood assaulted his nose.

“For fuck’s sake, Linlin,” Rael grumbled, staring at the corpses of three priests and a single man. “If you kill someone, get rid of the traces. Why leave evidence?”

“…?” Linlin tilted her head but dismissed his comment as she pointed to the other end of the alley. “This is where I last saw my sister. She ran that way.”

“That way, huh…” Rael muttered, and in the very next moment, expanded his senses.

He had figured out an interesting application of his mind-related skills. If he were to combine the effects of Sloth and Neuroweb, he could literally sense the minds of anyone in at least a 25-kilometer radius.

Still, he had to focus.

Let’s see… Qiqi… Qiqi… Rael thought, trying to narrow down the people who knew Qiqi existed.

Out of the hundreds of thousands of people present, there was a surprising number of people who knew about her.

A grand total of eleven.

He narrowed down the list, excluding Linlin, of course.

Some seemed like officials, one was even King Arthur himself. The rest were Rael’s group, and the last two were those he couldn’t recognize.

They were both underground and in very close proximity. But there was also one more person down there, someone who was knocked out.

And that person was none other than Qiqi.

“I found her,” Rael stated, causing Linlin’s eyes to widen.

But just as she was about to speak up, he cut her off.

“Be right back.”
