Chapter 51: 51: Shimmering Secrets

---

"Hey, what are you doing? Don’t you wanna eat? Are you angry because Darius let you and Renna fight the enemies alone?" It was Lomar, a three-star rank fighter, asked with a gentle concern, stepping into view with a questioning gaze.

Kai quickly composed himself, offering a relaxed smile. "No, I’m not angry. I just came here for a quick piss. Let’s head back, Lomar. Is the meat roasting done yet?"

Satisfied with Kai’s casual response, Lomar nodded and they returned side by side to the warm glow of the campfire. The others were already fully engaged in their meal, laughter and conversation filling the air.

Kai cast a subtle glance back into the forest, relieved no one had witnessed his covert feast. For now, everything seemed perfectly normal.

The blazing noon had given way to a quiet, tense calm as the team finished their meager meal. The ambush of the insect beasts was now but a memory. In the cooling light of mid day, the five ant warriors, and Kai prepared to resume their journey. The soft rustling of leaves and the gentle murmur of the forest provided a deceptive veil of peace over the rugged path ahead.

Kai rose from his quiet rest on a bed of cool moss. The team gathered their supplies and readied themselves for another stretch of the journey, an uneasy hush fell over them.

Memories of narrowly avoided traps, the whisper of venomous vines snapping in the air, lingered in every cautious glance and every measured step. Captain Darius’s cold gaze, ever watchful, hinted at hidden schemes that set Kai’s nerves on edge. Even now, in the calm before the next storm, Kai’s heart pounded with the future promise of both triumph and betrayal yet to come.

The team began to march along a narrow woodland trail. The ground was soft with the imprint of fallen leaves, yet underfoot it concealed dangers like hidden crevices, sudden patches of uneven terrain, and slivers of loose stone that could send an ant tumbling into an abyss. As they advanced in a tight formation, Kai observed everything with his well-honed predator instinct, every sense alert to the wild’s capricious moods.

Without warning, the calm shattered. A low, guttural sound arose from deeper within the forest. At first, it was a murmur, a vibration that tickled the edges of Kai’s sensitive antennae, a warning sign that something large was moving. In that instant, his Predator’s Instinct flared like a beacon in his mind. The inner system overlay materialized before his eyes with a swift, urgent message:

[Ding! System notifications-

Warning: A pack of wild beasts is approaching.

Beast Alert: Mordusk

Rank: Two-Star

Common Skills: Crushing Charge, Sticky Grapple, Coordinated Ambush.]

The display was vivid, a testament to the wild’s unpredictable ferocity and it sent a tremor of anticipation through Kai. He barely had time to shout a warning to his team before a pack of robust, hulking two-star beasts burst forth from the dense undergrowth. Their chitinous bodies glistened with sweat, and their mandibles clicked with hungry menace as they converged on the startled ants.

Kai’s heart hammered as the team broke formation. The pack, led by the beast now identified as Mordusk, surged forward with devastating speed. The air filled with the sound of battle, sharp clicks, frantic cries, and the crash of bodies colliding on rough ground. In the chaos, Kai’s instincts took over like a well-oiled machine. He darted among his comrades, delivering swift, decisive strikes with his mandibles.

These beasts weren’t that strong for a team of three star ants. Kai with his stats boosted/upgraded was facing any issues. They were killing them very easily. With a strong aura attack Kai defeated a two-star beast. It fell under his relentless assault, his inner system chimed out a victory message:

[Ding! A Beast is killed. EXP +20.] freёwebnoѵel.com

The initial melee was chaotic. As Kai fought, he saw a fellow two star warrior stagger under the weight of multiple enemy’s crushing charges. Renna the two star rank ant wasn’t as strong as Kai. He and the beast both had the same rank and battle powers. Renna was facing two beasts at the same time. It was very difficult to fight alone. He got injured by one of the beasts.

Without hesitation, Kai threw himself toward the injured ant, his body a blur of movement as he repelled one of the attackers, his strikes precise and fervent. The combined efforts of Kai and Renna eventually forced the beasts to falter, their vicious assault slowed, their numbers dwindling beneath the coordinated might of the team.

But even in the throes of battle, an undercurrent of malice pulsed beneath the surface. Captain Darius’s eyes glittered with a cold, secret intent as he watched kai. His silences carried a promise that deeper treachery was still in the making. An ambush or something else that would ensure Kai would later suffer for this very success. Other ants were busy fighting with the beasts. Only captain Darius didn’t join the battle. He just watched them like he is above his team members. As if their one and only duty is to protect him.

When the last of the pack fell with a thunderous crash, a final guttural bellow echoing into the silence. The forest fell momentarily quiet. The survivors, their breathing ragged and limbs trembling with exertion, gathered in the clearing amid the wreckage of the fierce confrontation.

Kai’s victorious strikes and every surge of raw power were recorded within his system as discreet affirmations, a series of quiet victories that nudged him ever closer to the strength needed for the journey ahead..

A mere fraction of a second later Kai and others began to recover their Aura. Suddenly an ominous rumble vibrated through the underbrush. The calm after the battle was abruptly shattered as the ground trembled with an approaching force. From the depths of the forest, larger and more ferocious than the previous attackers came out. It was a towering beast emerging—a pack alpha, its hulking body rippling with muscular power and its eyes blazing with fury for killing its underling’s.
