Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 203 - Attack from above
Chapter 203: Chapter 203 - Attack from above
The sky was a muted grey, the wind carrying the stench of burnt rubber and old blood. Yunfeng and the others had been walking for hours now, careful and silent.
The streets were quieter than expected—too quiet.
Even the groans of nearby zombies had faded into nothing more than occasional echoes in the far distance.
Grandpa Kailun shuffled slowly beside Yunfeng, his breath a little ragged, but his determination fierce. The soldiers flanked them cautiously, watching every alley, every broken window, every shadow that danced across the cracked pavement.
"Not long now," he whispered more to himself than anyone else. "We just have to make it to the barricade."
A soft buzz interrupted his thoughts.
The satellite phone in Kailun’s bag vibrated sharply.
The old man fumbled for it and answered, pressing it against his ear. "Hello? Who—"
Before he could finish, Shinju’s voice blasted from the other end, frantic and breathless.
"Something huge is coming your way—RUN!!"
"What?! Speak slower, Shinju!" Kailun barked, trying to calm the line.
"There’s something HUGE—just run! Run, NOW!"
Everyone stopped walking.
A chill sliced through the heat of the sun.
Yunfeng looked around, his ears straining.
No shaking. No tremors. The birds had stopped chirping, yes, but there was no roar, no thunder of claws on concrete. If something massive was approaching... shouldn’t they feel it?
He frowned and looked down at the ground.
Still. Completely still.
And then—
The sunlight vanished.
Like a cloud had suddenly covered the sky. But no cloud could cast a shadow like this.
Yunfeng’s breath caught in his throat as he slowly raised his head.
There it was.
Clinging to the side of a towering high-rise, like a blasphemous gargoyle of flesh and bone—a massive bat-like creature.
Its wings stretched unnaturally wide, leathery and dark, the edges torn and frayed. Long fingers clung to the crumbling edges of the building like claws, its entire body hunched as if it had just awoken from a thousand-year slumber.
Its eyes.
Two blood-red orbs stared directly at them, full of intelligence and hunger.
Its face was twisted, vaguely humanoid but stretched into something beastly. Rows of sharp, blackened teeth lined its mouth, and drool dripped like acid from its fangs.
The air went completely still.
It opened its jaws—and screeched.
The sound shattered windows across the block. A sonic blast of rage and death. The humans flinched and covered their ears, some dropping to the ground.
Yunfeng didn’t wait.
"RUN!!" he screamed, pulling Kailun by the hand.
They sprinted, hearts pounding, weapons clanking against their backs. The bat-creature let go of the building and soared into the air with a gust of wind so strong, it sent dust and debris flying.
"It’s following us!" one soldier shouted.
They ducked into alleyways, slipping behind wrecked cars and torn-down fences. But the thing was fast. Too fast.
Every shadow seemed to scream their names.
And still, Yunfeng ran, every muscle in his body burning. He didn’t look back.
He couldn’t.
His mind was screaming with one thought:
Please... please let Muchen be safe. Please let me live to see him again.
The shriek tore through the sky like a blade through silk, rattling windows and sending birds scattering from the few trees that still stood in the crumbled city.
Yunfeng’s breath hitched.
He had never seen anything like the creature—its wings stretched wider than a truck, leathery and blackened with veins pulsing red. Its eyes were like twin pits of molten blood, locked onto them with hunger.
"It’s seen us!" someone cried.
"RUN!" Shinju shouted again through the satellite phone, the signal crackling with static. "Run! That thing is massive!"
They bolted. Yunfeng grabbed Kailun’s arm, dragging him along as they ducked under broken balconies and into the skeletal remains of an old subway entrance.
But no matter how fast they moved, that shadow was always overhead, tailing them like death itself.
"It’s too fast!" Kailun panted. "We’ll never outrun it on foot!"
Yunfeng’s heart was pounding from fear.
He stopped running.
"What are you doing?!" The old man screamed.
He turned to them, a flicker of determination in his eyes. "I can stop it."
"Yunfeng, no—!"
But it was already too late.
A wave of wind slammed against them as the creature swooped down.
Yunfeng raised both hands, and a pulse of searing blue flame erupted from his palms, spiraling upward like a twisting dragon of fire.
The creature shrieked as the flames caught its wing, licking along the membrane with a furious blue hue. It staggered midair, veering to the side and crashing into the upper floors of a high-rise building. Glass shattered. Steel groaned. Smoke billowed.
The others turned in awe.
Blue fire clung to Yunfeng’s arms, shoulders, and chest—alive, dancing, burning brighter by the second. Yet he stood there unharmed, eyes focused and unblinking.
He stepped forward as the beast tried to rise again, one wing dragging uselessly behind it. Its shrieks turned desperate.
"I’ll get this done in a few minutes," Yunfeng whispered.
He raised both arms. Flame curled around him like armor, and with a fierce yell, he launched a final torrent of blue fire directly at the creature’s face.
It hit with the force of an explosion, consuming the monster in a brilliant blaze of ghost-blue flame.
Its screeches faded into ash.
The city fell quiet.
The only sound was Yunfeng’s soft breathing as the flames slowly died down, disappearing into his skin like mist returning to air. The scent of smoke lingered.
His clothes had burned away now leaving him completely naked again. He quickly hid his family jewels with his palm. "um.. did you guys bring a few spare shirts?"
Kailun stared, mouth trembling.
"um... ah... I... I think we do," he whispered. "d-does that not hurt you?"
Yunfeng gave a silent nod, eyes drifting to the heap of ash where the creature had been. "It burns everything... except me."
Shinju’s voice finally returned over the phone, broken but clear. "Is it dead?"
Yunfeng answered, eyes still glowing faintly. "Yeah. It’s dead."
He turned to the others, voice resolute. "Let’s go. We’ve wasted enough time. We have to get to the barricade... before it’s too late."
