Chapter 143: Chapter 143: See You From Afar

Jules’s sharp rumble echoed intensely inside Barnes’s head, freezing him momentarily. His heart was churned from the agony he had endured over all these years, and now Jules’s question led him to face the reality that he never knew the answer himself.

But a small sad smile curved his thin soft lips when Barnes mindlinked his answer, "I don’t know, Jules. I don’t know what would happen if he remembered me once again. But the only thing I am certain about is...I don’t want Master Aiden to hate me...

"For that to happen, I will be glad if he never retrieves the memory of the past we shared in the first place. But I have made my decision already. Until I am alive, I will not abandon him this time, no matter what happens."

His determined words made his wolf Jules fall completely silent inside him as he couldn’t bring himself to oppose his decision which sounded like an oath upon which Barnes’s life depended.

Amidst the anticipated silence that fell between those two giant men standing in the hallway, Barnes initiated to start a cordial conversation first and stretched his hand for a formal handshake, "Then...shall we reintroduce ourselves once again now?

"Hello, I am Barnes Weikfield, and I am...very happy to meet you, Master Aiden." His lips curved wide with a warm smile.

Aiden didn’t reciprocate his handshake and rather stared intensely into his smiling brown eyes that had a tint of sadness in them. Being able to observe someone keenly, Aiden felt a strange uneasiness growing inside him at his formal greeting, and rather chose to keep a distance from him.

"Since you know me already, there’s no need to reintroduce ourselves." Aiden coldly stated, slowly tainiting the smile from Barnes’s face. He crossed his broad arms over his chest before inquiring him, "I am very curious, how did you get inside the Academy in the first place? Are you working for someone here?"

"Oh...yes. I am working under Young Master Zenith here...as per instructions by my Boss Mr. Clark." Barnes answered his question in an amicable tone but the moment Aiden heard about it, his face turned quite solemn.

"Then why are you wasting your time here while chatting with me? You should go and fulfill your assigned duty by looking after Zenith here." Aiden intently tried to sound rude from his tone, since he couldn’t help but feel skeptical about Barnes, especially after his wolf Dazen had also felt something was off.

However, sensing his rudeness, Barnes still answered politely when Aiden tried to walk past Barnes once again towards the direction of Kylian’s room, "Umm, I was not wasting my time it’s been a while since I wanted to meet you like this. Anyways, Master Aiden...are you perhaps trying to go to Kylian’s room?"

"You know about Kylian already?" Aiden lifted his brow and sounded quite skeptical, asking him in a deep grunt, "Did Zenith tell you to keep your watch on him as well? Is that why you’re trying to block me from going to Kylian’s room?"

Barnes was a little startled to realize Aiden had grown up quite smart enough to observe people’s actions, just as he did to him. Knowing that Zenith and Kylian were together inside, Barnes didn’t want anyone to invade their privacy, especially after witnessing the kind of strenuous situation Zenith had to endure today for Marita.

Thus, he was actually trying to keep Aiden off limits from that room, so that Zenith would get to spend some quality time together with Kylian, especially after being aware of his precious worth to Zenith.

But when Aiden blatantly asked him this time, Barnes couldn’t forge any more lies and answered in a stiff voice, "Well, you’re right. I am trying to stop you from going over there because...I don’t want you to make Master Zenith furious by invading their quality time together. You must be well aware of his temper, right?"

"Together?" With a gaze of disbelief in his rolled big orbs, Aiden deliberately gazed towards that direction of the hallway when he uttered, "Does this mean...Zenith is together with Kylian in this room now?"

"Yes." Clearly sensing his utter disappointment from his tone, Barnes had no spare choice to protect Aiden from being a nuisance to them as he stated, "Young master is with Kylian right now...and...I think you should just let them be."

"Haha..." A small scorned sneer escaped from Aiden when he shuffled his brown hairs above from his forehead, exhaling a heavy sigh. "That damn Zenith doesn’t have time to answer my calls but he gets the fuckin’ time to check on Kylian from time to time. Is he really having a great time with his new plaything?"

"I...haven’t been by Young Master Zenith’s side for long, but...I think he’s quite serious this time. He...really do care about Kylian, a lot more than anyone expected."

When Barnes unexpectedly stepped up for Zenith, Aiden’s face turned surly with a gaze of jealousy darkening his wide-open eyes. He glowered at Barnes for a moment and turned away in the opposite direction with a scowl, "Fuck...it seems like you actually came here to ruin my mood even more...didn’t you?"

"Pardon me, but Master Aiden what did I—"

"Don’t call me fuckin’ Master anymore!" But before Barnes could finish his mumble, Aiden scowled aloud at him in a scary voice, making him wince. "You only serve Zenith now so keep your loyalty to him, you don’t need to act chummy with me. Also, I don’t give a damn about whatever past we shared, but from now onwards, we are strangers and you must remember it well. Do you understand?"

His cold hurtful words stirred the agonizing pain deep down inside his chest, but holding a small amicable smile on his lips, Barnes didn’t let out a word to oppose him. The only relief he felt was watching Aiden from so close, and with a nod, he obeyed, "Yes, Sir."

Aiden turned his face away from him and was about to run towards the opposite side of the hallways. But before he could take a step ahead, Barnes asked him keenly from behind, "I was also considering a night walk, so mind if I join you too, Sir?"

"Of course not!" Aiden grunted, sounding quite crude, "I don’t allow strangers to accompany me. It makes me uncomfortable." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Without a further word spoken, Aiden went running ahead and watching him still from behind, Barnes curved a small smile on his lips, as he murmured on his own, "I am sorry, Master Aiden.

"But...if I don’t annoy you by sticking close, I would be at least allowed to see you from afar, right?"
