Chapter 514 - Fallarbor Contest (2)

The fair-skinned girl, Sora, with long, straight, cream-colored hair and dressed in a white dress, stepped onto the stage and released her Pokémon, Beautifly.

She still wore a black rabbit plush as an accessory at her waist, and the two black bows on her head remained unchanged.

It was the same outfit Sora was wearing when Terrance first met her. However, after more than a year had passed, Terrance noticed that her Starter Pokémon, Beautifly, had improved significantly in terms of breeding.

"Using Beautifly?"

Terrance was slightly taken aback, and both Fuego and Joy also glanced at him.

If they remembered correctly, the Pokémon that had earned Terrance the honor of Top Coordinator was also Beautifly.

Terrance smiled slightly and quietly watched, waiting to see what kind of performance she would put on.

After Sora walked onto the stage and steadied herself, she began issuing commands. Her Beautifly spat out a large mass of silk into the air. As the mass of silk was launched skyward, a gust of wind suddenly lifted it up. Then, Beautifly flapped its wings and used Air Cutter!

Slash! Slash! Slash!

The wind blades cut through the silk, and after a burst of light and shadow, the silk was reduced to countless fine threads.

Seeing this, Terrance's expression became somewhat peculiar, but he continued to watch calmly.

Beneath the scattered silk fragments, a silver whirlwind surged upward, swallowing them all.

Accompanied by a whirring sound, the whirlwind carried the silk fragments, resembling a rolling wave of silver light—dazzling beyond words.

The white silk fragments, swept up by the silver powdery scales, were ultimately brought to a close with Beautifly's "Morning Sun." As the fragments gently drifted down, Beautifly danced gracefully among them...

This was...

Silver Meteor Shower.

The technique Terrance had once showcased at the Verdanturf Contest was now being recreated by Sora.

"I remember that a year ago, her Beautifly couldn't even use Silver Wind to control a flying disc, yet now it can replicate my silver meteor shower?" Terrance was slightly astonished.

Silver Meteor Shower, accompanied by Morning Sun, with Beautifly dancing within—it was breathtaking, like a scene from a fairyland.

Many spectators were utterly mesmerized, quickly reaching for their cameras to capture the moment.

"So...beautiful." Fuego slowly spoke. "However, I can only give it a 9.7."

9.7?

Such a spectacular performance, yet only a 9.7? Many people were puzzled, feeling that Sora had been treated unfairly.

Contestant Aiko, who had scored a perfect 10, was in the contestant room when she saw the "Silver Meteor Shower." She was momentarily stunned. In terms of technical difficulty, it was even more complex than the technique her Sneasel had performed, as it incorporated far more moves.

One small mistake in any step could have led to complete failure.

Yet such a performance only received a 9.7?

Why—

Doubt arose in the hearts of many.

"I accept the score because this technique is not my original creation." At that moment, Sora spoke. "I once saw this technique performed by a senior in a Pokémon Contest. At the time, it was at a level I couldn't even hope to reach. That senior and his Beautifly deeply inspired me. This performance... to a large extent, is meant as a respect to him."

As soon as Sora finished speaking, the entire venue fell silent.

"If I'm not mistaken, that senior must be Terrance," Fuego said with a smile.

His words instantly startled the audience, who all turned to look at Terrance.

The Verdanturf Contest was a regional event, not broadcast publicly. All recordings were archived by the Contest Committee, meaning outsiders were unaware of Terrance's "Silver Meteor Shower." Other than those who had been present at the contest, very few people had any knowledge of it.

What truly made Terrance famous was the Grand Festival, a large-scale competition broadcast live across all of Hoenn.

That was why everyone was so shocked when they saw Sora's "Silver Meteor Shower." They had never seen Terrance perform this technique before, making this their first time witnessing it.

"So the original creator of this technique is Terrance—"

"I never would have thought... I assumed Sora had created it herself."

The crowd erupted in astonishment. Now they understood why Fuego had only given it a 9.7. The performance was undoubtedly stunning, but it was merely a reproduction. Even though it achieved the same effect, its value was diminished since it was not the first time the technique had been displayed.

"9.8." Terrance finally gave his score with a smile. To be honest, the fact that she had managed to replicate it at all was already surprising to him.

After all, Beautifly's "Silver Meteor Shower" wasn't something just anyone could perform, even if they knew its composition and core techniques.

To execute it, one undoubtedly requires a high level of coordination and a deep understanding of Beautifly!

"I did it..." Sora let out a sigh of relief. For an entire year, she had been studying the "Silver Meteor Shower" that she first witnessed Terrance perform during her debut Pokémon Contest. That stunning scene had been etched into her memory. Determined to recreate it, she and Beautifly had put in an enormous amount of effort. But their hard work was not in vain. In the process of learning Terrance's technique, both she and Beautifly had made remarkable progress in various aspects. Just mastering this single technique had allowed Sora to grow rapidly. Only after experiencing the true value of the Silver Meteor Shower did she fully grasp the gap between herself and Terrance.

This time, she had also come to challenge Terrance and, by paying respect to Terrance's technique, she had achieved a temporary second place in the overall score!

Terrance noticed Sora looking at him from below and couldn't help but smile slightly.

This was the same rookie he had once encouraged, guided, and even criticized.

Now, it seemed she had fully grown and was here to test her own strength.

"This Fallarbor Contest is turning out to be quite interesting," Terrance thought to himself.

"Up next is Chisana's performance. Let's see what kind of brilliant performance he can show... on a real stage!"

...

...

With most of the Fallarbor Contest's performance round completed, it was now time for a break.

Terrance and the other two judges retreated to a lounge, enjoying some tea as they discussed the previous performances.

"So, it seems that Contestant Aiko and Contestant Sora have a high chance of standing out in the Contest Battle round?" Nurse Joy asked.

"Not necessarily. Quite a few Coordinators actually excel more in battles rather than performance. Many of them have prior experience as Trainers... so the final result is still uncertain," Fuego replied.

Taking a sip of tea, Terrance added, "If we consider the rules of appeal points, the scores from the primary judging are quite telling."

"Oh? Then, Mr. Gym Leader, do you have the confidence to defeat whoever ends up winning?" Nurse Joy asked teasingly.

"Uh..." Terrance was momentarily stunned before responding:

"They all have great potential... but for now, they're still too inexperienced."
