Chapter 54 - 54: Baratie, the Floating Restaurant

"Nami..."

Hearing the name, Karina immediately turned her head, her gaze flickering slightly.

Smart as she was, she had already vaguely guessed what the other woman was thinking.

After all, upon hearing about the three types of Haki, she too deeply desired to learn them.

Only by doing so could she avoid falling into danger when facing strong enemies in the future—and maybe even help share some of Will's burdens.

That helpless feeling of always having to watch Will fight alone wasn't exactly pleasant.

Will, hearing this, couldn't help but smile. Their thoughts aligned perfectly with his.

He nodded right away. "Don't worry. I'll help you."

Then he glanced at Karina and spoke seriously to both of them:

"As for your regular training routines, I've already thought everything through."

"I'll be giving you proper guidance in mastering Haki too."

"All you need to do is follow my instructions from here on out."

"Whether or not you succeed depends on your individual talent."

"Got it!"

Nami and Karina both nodded seriously, showing no objections.

The three didn't linger any longer. Soon, they set sail once again.

After adjusting the ship's heading and course, they made for their original destination—Loguetown.

Meanwhile—

Sabaody Sea Region

Floating Restaurant Baratie

Luffy and his crew had just finished a fierce battle with Dracule Mihawk, the world's strongest swordsman. After a short two-day rest and helping to rebuild the heavily damaged floating restaurant, they were finally preparing to leave and set off again.

The crew sat around a table, enjoying a hearty meal and chatting casually.

"Hey, you! You were that badly hurt, and you're really not going to stay in bed a few more days?"

Sanji, with his signature blonde hair and curly eyebrows, cigarette in mouth, glanced at Zoro, who was currently stuffing his face. He frowned slightly.

"Relax. It was just a fatal wound. I'm good after two nights of rest," Zoro replied nonchalantly while gnawing on a chunk of meat.

"Tch. Keep acting tough. Just don't drag us down later because of those injuries."

Sanji chuckled sarcastically.

He hadn't forgotten how terrifying that guy had been—Mihawk, the one who nearly sliced this stubborn moss-head in two with a single strike.

And now, just two days later, Zoro was not only out of bed but already training again—and still putting on that tough-guy act.

Though, looking at him now, he didn't seem like someone on the verge of collapse. Could he really have a monster's body?

Sanji, a normal human himself, couldn't wrap his head around it and gave up trying.

Meanwhile, Luffy was completely ignoring the conversation. He focused solely on shoveling food into his mouth, his belly ballooning with each bite.

Next to him, eating more elegantly, was Usopp, whose long nose twitched slightly as he turned toward Luffy with curiosity.

"Hey, Luffy, about that guy with the big sword—Dracule Mihawk or whatever."

"When he fought Zoro, he almost killed him with one slash. But when it came to you, he suddenly held back. Why's that?"

"Do you know that guy?"

The question had been bugging Usopp ever since their battle with the terrifying swordsman two days ago. He just hadn't found a chance to ask until now.

The others, hearing this, also looked over with curiosity.

"Huh?"

Luffy paused, his hands and mouth frozen mid-bite. After thinking for two seconds, he smiled sheepishly and said:

"Nope, I have no idea."

Honestly, he really didn't know.

That swordsman had clearly been about to strike him down, yet suddenly stopped at the last moment.

Luffy hadn't figured out why—and frankly, he didn't care to dwell on it.

After all, Mihawk was Zoro's future target and rival. It wasn't really Luffy's business to figure out how to defeat him.

So with that said, he simply went back to devouring his food.

"...Huh?"

The rest of the crew were taken aback by Luffy's utterly useless answer.

But since he didn't seem to be lying, they could only sigh in defeat and continue eating.

Soon, Sanji—who was the first to finish eating—turned to the quiet man beside him: a bearded, dark-eyed figure with a serious expression.

"Gin, you've really made up your mind to join Luffy's crew?"

Gin, who had fought alongside them two days earlier, slowly lifted his head. His tone was low, yet serious.

"Yes. The pirate crew I belonged to... was completely destroyed by Mihawk."

A few days ago, after receiving a meal from Sanji as an act of kindness, Gin had left alone to rendezvous with his captain, Don Krieg, at a previously agreed-upon location.

But when he got there, Krieg was nowhere to be found—not even the ship.

Gin spent some time searching and gathering intel.

But none of the nearby towns had any news of the Krieg Pirates.

That was when he realized that his crew had most likely been annihilated by the man who had relentlessly pursued them—Dracule Mihawk.

Devastated, Gin had returned to Baratie to repay Sanji's kindness.

But soon after he arrived, the man who had slaughtered all his comrades showed up there too.

Driven by a thirst for vengeance, Gin joined forces with Luffy, Zoro, and the others.

Together, for various reasons, they challenged the terrifying swordsman.

Though they lost, for reasons unknown, Gin was spared—making him the sole survivor of the Krieg Pirates.

After the battle, just as Gin found himself lost and aimless, Luffy invited Sanji to join his crew—and extended the invitation to Gin as well.

Recalling this, Gin turned to look at Luffy, who was still wolfing down food. He spoke with solemn determination:

"For someone like me, who had nowhere left to go—Captain Luffy was the one who gave me a place."

"That's why I've decided to follow him and head to the Grand Line!"

"Ahahaha!"

Luffy burst into loud laughter, then beamed at him:

"You're not bad at all! Wanting to avenge your fallen crewmates, and being really strong on top of that!"

"Plus, you've already been to the Grand Line before, and you managed to survive alone on the sea."

"Guys like you are exactly the kind of people I want as crewmates!"

"Gin, from now on, you're our navigator and combatant!"

Surprised by the level of trust Luffy was placing in him—handing over such an important role—Gin was deeply moved.

He nodded solemnly.

"Yes! Don't worry, Captain Luffy. I'll take care of everything!"
