Chapter 72 - 72: A New Recruit, A New Fight

"This tastes good!"

"Wow, that guy wasn't kidding, the wine here is really good!"

"Indeed, it's quite powerful!"

"The beer is delicious too!"

"Woo woo woo~~Finally I can eat something delicious!"

"Robin, you are so reliable!"

"Until we find a dedicated chef, the kitchen is up to you!"

"No problem, it's rare that you like the food I cook."

"It's great!"

Faintly, Daz Bones heard bursts of noisy chatter. The tempting scent of food drifted to his nose, and a strong hunger surged within him.

"Are you awake? Do you want to eat something together?" Noticing Daz Bones stir, Genos walked up to him with a plate of meat.

"This is..." As consciousness gradually returned, Daz Bones remembered what had happened. He felt utterly exhausted from the fight, his body aching, but surprisingly, he wasn't seriously injured—just completely drained. What a monstrous way of fighting, relying solely on his inhuman recovery ability to drain me completely. However, only monsters can fight like this.

Standing up, Daz Bones looked at the Rhodes Pirates celebrating nearby. The iconic cactus-like peak confirmed they were still at Whiskey Peak. Around the pirates were piles of various fine liquors from the town. It was true, as they said, that feasts, good food, and wine, they would take it their own way.

Pushing all other thoughts aside, Daz Bones followed Genos to the group, sat down, and began to eat. As he consumed the food, he could feel his body rapidly recovering, his vitality returning, and strength surging from the rapidly digested meal.

A moment later, Daz Bones put down his plate, wiped his mouth, and his face was still calm. His gaze swept over Rhodes and his crew, pausing on Genos, before finally settling on Rhodes.

"You saved me."

"That's right."

"What do you want? I can kill for you."

Hearing Daz Bones's offer, Rhodes smiled. "If there's someone I truly want to kill, I'll do it myself." He continued, "How about getting on my ship? People like you deserve a better future. Organizations like the Baroque Works are too petty."

Daz Bones fell silent. He had no strong feelings for Baroque Works. He was originally a killer, tired of boring missions in the West Blue, and had only set out for the Grand Line after receiving an invitation from Baroque Works, hoping to see a different world. Strictly speaking, he wasn't yet an official member of the organization. However, even though they had just spared his life and rescued him, it didn't mean he had to join them.

"Defeat me!" After a moment of silence, Daz Bones stood up, looking at Rhodes with a calm but firm expression. "Use your absolute strength to defeat me fairly!"

"In that case, you'll join my pirate group, right?"

"As long as you defeat me fairly, you will be my boss." Daz Bones looked at Rhodes, though he doubted if Rhodes, with a bounty of only 71 million Beli, could defeat him head-on.

"You just went through one battle, are you okay?" Rhodes stood up, looking at the determined man.

"I just felt exhausted." The implication was that he suffered no lasting harm.

Rhodes glanced at Genos and saw the fighting spirit in his eyes. Daz Bones kept emphasizing "fair and square," clearly dissatisfied with the previous battle's outcome. However, if this can make Genos more motivated, it would be a good thing.

"Just to confirm, as long as I defeat you, you will join us, right?" Rhodes stretched his neck.

"I will never go back on my word."

"That's good!" Rhodes clenched his fist, causing an explosion in the air—the sound of compressed air bursting from his palm. "Because the Log Pose is full of magnetic force, we're ready to go after eating, and we really don't have time to wait for you to wake up."

"You mean, I'll be knocked unconscious?" Daz Bones, with his physical strength fully restored, felt he was in his prime.

"Certainly!"

The Six King Gun

Boom! With a powerful stomp, accompanied by a huge roar, Rhodes's body shot forward, appearing before Daz Bones with a whistling wind.

So fast!! There was no time for any effective counterattack. Daz Bones could only push his Dice-Dice Fruit ability to its limit. "Kill him!" This was a purely defensive move: while remaining still, his entire body, including his internal organs, became as hard as steel—an unbreakable, absolute defense!

"Six Styles Secret Technique - Six King Gun!" Without using any Haki, Rhodes simply unleashed the full mystery of the Six Styles he had studied. All the strength in his body gathered, bursting out through his fist the moment he swung it.

BANG!! A heavy punch slammed into Daz Bones's chest, the terrifying force sending his body flying instantly.

Boom-- Just as Rhodes's fist connected, a powerful shockwave hit Daz Bones's chest. The terrifying punch and the strong shockwave struck Daz Bones almost simultaneously. Under the effect of his Devil Fruit, his body, harder than steel, was instantly broken by Rhodes.

Puff-- Daz Bones suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, his pupils losing their luster and turning white.

"It seems a little too much."

Thump-- Daz Bones's body, launched into the air, fell vertically to the ground.

"Still alive." Law stepped forward and touched the artery in Daz Bones's neck. "But the surgery needs to be done as soon as possible."

"I accidentally overdid it," Rhodes mumbled, seeing the looks from his companions, feeling a little guilty. "Law, you go and prepare Bones for surgery first, and Bepo, you help Law. Let's take this opportunity to move all the wine onto the boat."

"All?"

"All!"

"Why do you need so much wine? It's too much."

"It's useful! Hurry up, we'll be ready to go soon."

Bepo carried Daz Bones on his back and followed Law into the infirmary, while the others kept moving barrels of fine wine between the coast and the Polaris, filling the cabin.

After a while, the surgery was completed, and Rhodes and his team had finished transporting the wine. Standing at the side of the ship, looking at the devastated Whiskey Peak, Rhodes waved his hand.

"Let's go!"

Rhodes has secured a new, powerful (though currently unconscious) crew member in Daz Bones, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with. What will be the immediate consequences of Daz Bones joining the crew, and how might his unique abilities and stoic personality impact the dynamics of the Rhodes Pirates as they venture deeper into the Grand Line?
