OMG!!! My Crippled Husband is a Hot, Powerful CEO-Chapter 161 – How can he be gone?
Chapter 161: Chapter 161 – How can he be gone?
"Everyone, out," Alex yelled as he forcefully carried Joanna. There were just fifty-nine seconds for the bomb to go off, so if Alex had not seen it in time, they would have all perished in there.
However, Joanna was concerned for Mia and her father. "Dad and Mia are in there," she yelled. Alex was not thinking about protecting his image anymore and instructed,
"Jack, get her out. I will bring them." He handed Joanna over to Jack. The latter wanted to tell him to go with Joanna, that he would bring Mia, but there was no time to argue.
Throwing Joanna gently over his shoulder, he carried her out of the building despite her resistance.
Jack knew she would be stubborn as always, especially when it wasn’t his boss carrying her, which is why he used that method. Who knows? He might just make it back in time to help Alex.
"Call the ambulance when you get out," Alex instructed, as he and Dario screamed, "Everyone get out, there is a bomb."
The medical team was running out, except those in the theater who seemed to have no idea what was going on.
"Sir, there are just ten seconds left. You have to leave too," Ike said worriedly, ready to take on whatever responsibility Alex would give him, even if it cost him his life. But it was as if Alex was not listening to anyone, making his way to the theater.
"This place is going to blow up!" He yelled. The four people stared at him in horror just before the building went up in flames.
Outside, Jack had just succeeded in bringing out Cole, carrying him on his shoulder from the hospital bed when the building went up in flames.
The emergency services had arrived when Jack had not even made the call due to the sound of the blast and the fire.
Someone must have made a call due to all that, but Joanna was shaking from fear.
"No! Alex." She was running towards the fire without another thought, but Jack was fast enough to stop her after handing Cole over to the paramedics.
"You can’t go in there. It’s too late," Jack spoke in a disheartened voice. He was too late to rescue his boss, but Joanna was uncontrollable.
A part of him was missing the moment the building went up in flames. "Then let me die too," she yelled. Salvador’s men could only watch in tears.
They lost their leader as well, and Jack knew that Salvador was also gone. Even as the ambulance left, Joanna stayed behind as the firefighters battled the fire, tears streaming down her cheeks.
A car drove in their direction, and Violet ran out. "Joan, what happened? I saw you on the news."
Joanna had no idea when the media arrived and covered the whole incident but did not care. Something had died inside of her, making her feel soulless at the moment.
"He’s gone, V, Alex and Mia are gone," Joanna broke down, her countenance causing everyone around to shed tears.
Violet did not care about Mia but was worried for Alex. "How can he be gone? I know this building."
She was curiously looking around for the emergency exits, but with the fire and all, it seemed impossible.
"What are you talking about?" Joanna asked. It wasn’t just her but also Jack and Salvador’s men.
"This building is owned by a mafia organization, and only members of their organization get treated here," Violet revealed. Joanna was finding it hard to piece it all together.
"Alex and Mia were in there before the building went up in flames. It’s all my fault. I told him to save Mia," Joanna burst into tears. Violet hugged her and approached the firefighters.
"Can you let me in?"
Everyone was shocked, but the captain of the firefighters refused her entry. "Lady, the cops would be here soon, and they will be in charge of investigations. You can’t go in."
The police sirens were already in the air, and Violet’s enthusiasm gave Joanna hope.
"You don’t know this building as much as I do. There is a secret tunnel and bulletproof doors," Violet insisted. Joanna’s eyes shone with hope.
"Bulletproof doors? Does it mean they are still alive?"
The captain did not want to give them false hope. "Look, we can’t confirm that. As you can see, the whole building is collapsed, and the fire department would have found something by now if it were so."
It made sense that there couldn’t be any survivors, but here lies the case, no casualties had also been brought out.
The police took over the case as Joanna asked their superior. "At least we should see their corpses to confirm they are dead?" She was hanging on to the little shred of hope Violet gave her, just as the investigator tried to dim it.
"Fire incidences aren’t like others. This is an explosion, so chances are, the bodies must have been torn to pieces or even be turned beyond recognition."
"But there must be traces. Pieces of bones or some kinds of human remains," Joanna countered, looking helpless and pale.
"We are here to investigate. Give us your contact and go home. We shall call you when we need more information." The investigator brought out a pen and notepad, but Joanna took a step back.
"I’m not leaving. I’ll stay right here," she insisted, and with Violet by her side, no one could convince them otherwise.
"We shall stay too. Just do what you must," Jack said, removing his jacket and covering Joanna’s shoulder with it.
He took that of one of the bodyguards and did the same for Violet, as they sat there, waiting for news.
Embracing each other, Joanna couldn’t stop shedding tears. Only if she hadn’t insisted on Alex helping Mia, then he would have been safe. Was it even right for her to help Mia after all she, her mother, and Cole did to them?
"I’m so stupid. I shouldn’t have let him go. I shouldn’t have allowed Alex to go in there."
"I’m surprised you allowed him, but what exactly happened?" Violet asked, saddened to not have been there to help.
As Joanna explained it all, Violet could not blame her. "You did the right thing."
The fire department finished their job, and the cops found nothing. "We are sorry, ma’am, there are no survivors," the investigator said in a deflated tone, the color drained from Joanna’s face, and everything was going dark. At the same time, Violet’s phone rang.
"Joan, I will get you to the hospital," she said as Jack carried Joanna, but seeing the caller ID, Violet’s heart stopped. "Aiden?"
