Chapter 33: Sacrifice

The air was thick with dread as Allen, Fina, and Rinni pushed through the undergrowth toward the source of the scream. The pained cry echoed again—closer now—until they broke into a small clearing.

What they saw twisted Allen’s gut.

The beastkin boy lay sprawled on the forest floor, blood matting his fur and staining the moss beneath him. The elf had her boot crushing into his back, her expression blank with cold hatred. The dwarf, grunting with effort, was dragging the boy’s arm toward the dark maw of a yawning hole at the base of an enormous tree. The opening was pitch black, radiating an eerie stillness that made the hairs on Allen’s neck rise.

"Don’t squirm, runt," the elf muttered, eyes flashing. "We’ll be rid of you soon enough."

The dwarf heaved harder. "Just get his scrawny hide over the edge—damned little shit’s barely worth the blood."

Allen didn’t know why the hell they were trying to shove a bleeding kid into that black hole, but his mind didn’t need a reason. The words alone made something snap.

"What the fuck are you doing!?" Allen’s voice exploded across the clearing like thunder, full of venom and disbelief. "Are you all out of your godsdamn minds!?"

The trio of adventurers turned as one, their faces curling into expressions of annoyance and contempt. The human warrior made a lazy motion toward his sword, the elf just sighed.

"Oh, it’s you again," the elf sneered, glancing at Fina and Rinni with naked disgust. "Should’ve known the stray collector would come running."

Allen didn’t stop. "You’re stepping on a kid’s spine and dragging him into some creepy-ass hole like it’s normal—are you insane?!"

The dwarf grunted. "Piss off, outsider. You don’t know what this is, and it ain’t your business."

Fina’s claws flexed, her growl deepening, but she didn’t move. Rinni hovered near her, eyes wide and trembling. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

The elf sneered again. "Why even bother protecting trash? You’ve already got two tail-raisers crawling after you. Why not let this one be useful?"

That did it.

Allen’s voice dropped an octave. "You really should’ve kept your mouth shut."

"Testicular Torsion!" he barked, his voice sharp and commanding.

The dwarf froze mid-motion, his face contorting as a strangled, guttural sound escaped his throat. He dropped the boy’s arm, clutching his groin with both hands as he stumbled backward. The sound of him collapsing into the underbrush was almost satisfying.

"What the—?!" The human warrior’s eyes widened, and he instinctively took a step back, his hand hovering over his sword hilt.

The elf faltered, her bow lowering slightly as she glanced at the dwarf writhing on the ground. "What did you—"

Allen cut her off with a glare so fierce it silenced her mid-sentence. "I’m not explaining myself to a bunch of lowlifes sacrificing a bleeding kid. You want to play dirty? I’ll go lower."

Fina growled low in her throat, stepping forward to stand beside Allen, her claws glinting in the dim light. "Touch him again, and you won’t leave this clearing alive."

Rinni, though shaking, moved to the boy’s side, her arms carefully cradling his battered frame. "We need to move him," she whispered, her voice trembling but determined. "He can’t take much more."

The elf glared at Allen, her grip on the bow tightening as though considering another shot. But when her gaze flickered to the dwarf groaning on the ground, her sneer turned to uncertainty.

The bleeding was excessive, each second that boy were losing his life, that’s when the elf laughed. "We should have tortured him more, before we even planned to sacrifice that pathetic mutt to the dark spirits."

Allen’s fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. The elf’s mocking laughter rang in his ears, grating against every fiber of his being. His voice cut through the clearing, low and lethal.

"You think this is funny?" he said, stepping forward. "You’re standing over a dying kid, laughing like it’s a damn game."

The elf didn’t back down, her smirk only widening. "Why wouldn’t I? It’s not like anyone will miss him. Trash like him should be grateful to serve a greater purpose."

Fina’s growl grew louder, her claws flexing, but Allen raised a hand to stop her from acting. His eyes burned with fury as he locked his gaze onto the elf.

"I’ve heard enough," he said coldly, his tone brooking no argument. "If you don’t leave now, you’ll regret staying."

The human warrior shifted uncomfortably, glancing at the elf. "Maybe we should back off. That guy’s not normal."

"Shut it," the elf snapped, raising her bow again and aiming squarely at Allen’s chest. "I don’t take orders from you. And I’m not leaving without the boy."

Allen didn’t flinch, his expression darkening. "Fina, Rinni, get the kid out of here."

"But—" Fina started to protest, her claws twitching.

"Now," Allen barked, his voice firm.

Rinni hesitated, her hands trembling as she looked at the boy. "I... I can’t carry him alone."

"Then both of you do it," Allen said, his tone softening just slightly. "I’ll handle this."

The elf laughed again, her bowstring taut. "Big talk for someone standing alone."

Allen’s eyes narrowed. "I won’t need anyone else."

Before she could release the arrow, Allen made his move.

"Testicular Torsion!"

The human warrior let out an agonized scream, dropping his sword as he doubled over, clutching himself. He crumpled to the ground beside the dwarf, their groans echoing through the clearing. The elf’s expression twisted in confusion and panic.

"What the hell are you—" she started, but Allen cut her off.

"Two down. Want to try your luck next, or are you smart enough to back off?" he said, his voice calm and cold as ice.

The elf faltered, her fingers trembling on the bowstring. Her gaze flickered to her fallen companions, then back to Allen. For the first time, uncertainty flashed across her face.

Fina stepped forward again, standing protectively between Allen and the boy. Her growl was low and menacing. "Leave. Now."

The elf gritted her teeth, lowering her bow slowly. "This isn’t over," she hissed before turning and stalking off, her steps quick and angry. The others followed, limping and groaning, leaving Allen, Fina, and Rinni alone with the boy.

Allen sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Damn idiots."

Fina knelt beside the boy, gently brushing his matted fur. "We need to stop the bleeding," she said, her voice uncharacteristically soft.

Rinni nodded, her hands still trembling. "I-I’ll find water," she stammered, standing and glancing nervously in the direction the adventurers had fled.

Allen crouched next to the boy, his expression grim. "Hang in there, kid. You’re not going anywhere."
