Chapter 24: Lost in words

The sun hung high as the trio made their way through the dense woods. Allen and Fina walked side by side, their laughter echoing through the trees like they were sharing the world’s best inside joke.

"I’m telling you," Allen said between chuckles, "the way she was sobbing and clinging to me, it was like I’d performed some kind of miracle."

Fina snorted, her tail flicking with amusement. "Oh, please, ’miracle’? She was begging like her life depended on it. ’Please, please don’t stop, I’ll do anything!’" She mimicked Mirielle’s desperate voice, sending Allen into another fit of laughter.

"Right?" he said, wiping tears from his eyes. "And when I told her to call me ’Master,’ she didn’t even hesitate. Just went full-on devotional mode."

"’Master! I’m your slave! Use me as you wish!’" Fina imitated again, dramatically throwing her hands into the air. "I thought I’d die laughing."

Rinni, trailing slightly behind, furrowed her brow. "What... are you two even talking about?"

Allen and Fina exchanged a glance, their smirks growing wider.

"Uh, nothing," Allen said, his tone too casual to be convincing.

"Yeah, nothing important," Fina added, though her grin said otherwise.

Rinni crossed her arms, her ears twitching with irritation. "You’ve been laughing about this ’Mirielle’ person for the last ten minutes, and I’m just supposed to pretend it doesn’t exist?"

Allen raised an eyebrow. "What, jealous you’re not in on the joke?"

"No," Rinni shot back, her cheeks pink. "I just don’t trust it. You two are shady as hell."

Fina chuckled, nudging Allen with her elbow. "She’s catching on."

Allen smirked. "Relax, bunny girl. Mirielle’s just... someone we helped. Let’s leave it at that."

"Helped?" Rinni asked, narrowing her eyes. "Helped how?"

"By giving her exactly what she wanted," Fina said with a wicked grin.

Rinni’s nose scrunched. "You’re so vague it’s annoying."

"And you’re so nosy it’s adorable," Allen teased.

Fina burst out laughing, her tail swishing like a metronome. "I love how she’s trying so hard to piece it together."

Rinni groaned, throwing her hands up. "You two are impossible. Fine, don’t tell me. I don’t even care."

"Sure you don’t," Allen said, his voice dripping with mock sympathy.

"Not even a little," Rinni muttered, though the way her ears twitched betrayed her curiosity.

Fina leaned closer to Allen, her voice low enough for only him to hear. "Think we broke her brain yet?"

Allen smirked. "Nah, but it’s fun watching her try to keep up."

Rinni shot them a suspicious glare but said nothing, her mind clearly racing.

And so they walked on, Allen and Fina snickering like mischievous conspirators, while Rinni followed behind, thoroughly confused and mildly exasperated.

Allen leaned closer to Fina as they strolled behind Rinni, his breath warm against her ear. "You noticed how she moves?" he murmured, voice low and teasing. "Like every step is a little bounce. Bunny girls, huh? I bet there’s something to those rumors."

Fina’s tail, as if acting on its own, curled around Allen’s leg possessively. She smirked, not missing the heat in his tone. "Oh? You planning to test those rumors, Allen? You’ve barely had time to recover from Mirielle, and now you’ve got your eyes on Rinni?"

Allen chuckled, his hand brushing lightly against the small of her back. "Just curious. I mean, you can’t blame a guy for wondering about the whole ’always in heat’ thing. Thought you’d know, being another beastkin and all."

Her tail tightened slightly around his leg, a playful yet possessive gesture. "I wouldn’t waste my time entertaining those old clichés," she said, voice dripping with mock indignation. "And don’t think I didn’t notice how you’re ogling her hips."

"I wasn’t ogling," Allen protested with a sly grin. "I was appreciating. There’s a difference, Fina."

"Oh, is there now?" she asked, her tone daring him. "And what exactly are you appreciating?"

"Her shape, her stride..." He leaned in closer, his lips just brushing her ear as he whispered, "but yours, Fina? Yours has me completely distracted."

She shivered slightly at his words but quickly masked it with a sharp grin. "You’re smooth, Allen. But don’t think I’m not onto you. You’re trying to rile me up, aren’t you?"

"Maybe a little," he admitted, his hand trailing lightly along the base of her tail before resting on her hip. "But honestly, watching your tail curl around me like this? Kind of feels like you’re staking a claim."

Fina purred softly, her eyes half-lidded. "And if I am? What would you do about it?"

Allen smirked, tilting his head. "Guess I’d let you, for now. It’s not every day a guy gets wrapped up by a gorgeous catgirl with a jealous streak."

Her tail flicked in mock annoyance before tightening once more. "Careful, Allen. I might start thinking you’re enjoying this too much."

"Oh, I am," he replied smoothly. "But you knew that already."

Ahead of them, Rinni glanced back, her brow furrowing slightly as she noticed the way Fina was pressed against Allen. "Why’s your tail all wrapped around him?" she asked, her voice full of innocent curiosity.

Fina’s lips curled into a sly smile. "Just keeping him in line, bunny. You’d be surprised how much he likes being tied down."

Allen barked a laugh, his arm slipping around Fina’s waist as he leaned in. "And you’d be surprised how much she likes doing the tying."

Allen’s laugh was cut short as Fina’s tail gave an unexpectedly firm squeeze around his leg, the soft fur brushing against him in a way that sent a shiver up his spine. His hips shifted involuntarily, and he realized too late that his excitement was... noticeable.

Fina’s sharp eyes caught it immediately, and her lips curled into a mischievous grin. "Well, well," she purred, her voice dropping to a husky whisper. "Seems someone’s getting a little *too* comfortable back there."

Allen cleared his throat, trying to act nonchalant. "It’s not what it looks like."

"Oh, it’s exactly what it looks like," Fina teased, her tail uncoiling slightly before brushing against him again, this time deliberately slow. "Should I be flattered, or is this just your natural state around every beastkin girl you meet?"

"Depends," Allen shot back, his smirk returning. "Are you jealous, or just proud of yourself?"

"Proud," she replied instantly, her fingers tracing circles on his arm. "Though maybe I should be worried for poor Rinni. One wrong bounce in that outfit, and you’ll be pitching a tent big enough for a caravan."

Allen groaned, his hand brushing against the base of her tail in retaliation. "You’re the one wrapping your tail around me like some kind of fuzzy boa constrictor. What’d you expect?"

Fina leaned in close, her breath hot against his neck. "What I expect is for you to keep it together, big guy. Unless you *want* Rinni to notice and ask why you’re walking funny."

As if on cue, Rinni glanced back again, her brow furrowing in confusion. "What are you two whispering about?"

Fina didn’t miss a beat, her grin widening. "Oh, just Allen’s... enthusiasm for beastkin culture. He’s very passionate about it."

Rinni tilted her head, clearly not catching the innuendo. "Passionate? Like learning our traditions and stuff?"

Allen coughed into his fist, trying to compose himself. "Something like that."

Fina snickered, her tail giving one last teasing flick before she released his leg. "Relax, bunny. He’s harmless... mostly."

Rinni shrugged, seemingly satisfied with the answer, and turned her attention back to the path.

Fina leaned closer to Allen, her voice low and full of mirth. "You’re lucky she’s clueless. Otherwise, she’d be asking why your cock’s halfway to freedom right now."

Allen groaned again, adjusting himself discreetly. "You’re the worst."

"And you love it," Fina quipped, her tail brushing against him one last time before flicking away, leaving him to stew in equal parts frustration and amusement.
