Nightmare Assault-Chapter 371: Please Survive
Chapter 371: Please Survive
Sensing the awkwardness, the driver laughed drily. “This tunnel is a good shortcut. Don’t worry. We’ll leave it quickly.” Soon, the driver was unable to laugh. They were in the tunnel for five minutes. At first, they’d see cars on the opposite lane. Eventually, other than the headlights of the taxi, there was only endless darkness. The darkness was like ink, swallowing everything.
“What… what is going on?” The driver panicked. “I often use this path. When did the tunnel become so long?” Nothing was wrong with the tunnel. Something was wrong with the passengers in his vehicle.
BANG!
It sounded like someone had smashed heavily on the top of the car.
BANG!
“What is that?!” The driver was so scared that his voice changed. He glanced at the roof, and his hands that held the wheel shook.
“Give up.” A weak sound came from Jiang Cheng’s side. He turned to see Chen Yi’s pale face. Her brows were creased together. She was in immense pain. “Let me out of the car, or she’ll never let you go.”
Jiang Cheng didn’t say anything, but his eyes moved to the car door. He knew that Chen Yi was right. Once they kicked her off, they would be safe. After all… the ghost only wanted her.
Chen Yi’s left arm hung weakly. She could barely move her right arm. Clearly, she was too weak even to open the door. Jiang Cheng slowly reached towards the car door on her side. Before he made the decision, Chen Yi’s weak voice could be heard again. “Don’t hesitate.” Her teeth chattered, and her consciousness blurred. She leaned on Jiang Cheng’s shoulder and closed her eyes. She didn’t notice the latter’s hand movement. She mumbled, “Do not waste time on me. I have no more value. I’ll only bring danger.”
The next second, Jiang Cheng felt the person on his shoulder shake her head. The voice continued, “This is not worth it.” Chen Yi said through heavy breaths. “And meaningless.”
Jiang Cheng’s hand that held the door handle paused. No value, not worth it, meaningless…
The terms came alive in his mind. Once upon a time, someone used the same words to describe him… Jiang Cheng’s heart winced. From his perspective, losing a teammate wasn’t immoral. She was targeted by ghosts. Keeping her around would bring danger to everyone. Furthermore… she volunteered to sacrifice herself.
The woman was about to die. Nothing could change that. The chance of her living was miniscule. But… why did he feel like that?
He was assaulted by inexplicable fear. He stared at the door like it was a horrifying beast. Once he opened the door, he’d be lost in the darkness. In a few seconds, his back was drenched by cold sweat. His heavy breathing overwhelmed the howling of the wind. Sensing the woman’s weak breaths, his hand trembled. Then, he slowly pulled back. He also gently pulled Chen Yi’s hand back and placed it on his knees.
“Hang in there a little bit longer.” Jiang Cheng placed his chin on her forehead and whispered, “We’re almost there.” He tried to make Chen Yi as comfortable as possible. The chill air spread in the car. The invisible pressure moved to him.
“Drive faster!” Jiang Cheng shouted at the driver. His effort was rewarded. Colours returned to Chen Yi’s face and lips. She started to cough violently. Blood stained her lips. She opened her eyes to see a side profile. Jiang Cheng was shivering from the cold, but he didn’t let go of Chen Yi. He stared into the dark. His eyes appeared to shine.
“What are you looking at?” When he noticed that she was awake, Jiang Cheng became a ruffian. He rolled his eyes and growled viciously. “I’m not saving people for nothing. Either you pay with money or your body. You don’t look like you have money, so you can pay with your body. At a conservative calculation, your life is worth at least 180 times. When you were asleep, I’ve already taken 20 times. The rest, you can figure out how to pay me.”
Chen Yi just woke up. She was confused, but she soon realised it was this shaking man who saved her.
“Don’t look at me like that.” Jiang Cheng widened his eyes as if afraid.
“Thank you,” Chen Yi whispered.
After a pause, Jiang Cheng turned away and huffed, “I don’t need your thanks. When we’re out, just tell your colleagues to let me go if they run into me during a mission. I’m very easy to recognise.” Jiang Cheng grinned wickedly. “I have two names that I use. The first is Mr. Silver Gun. It’s famous among young girls. The other is Land Dandelion. That is more popular among the rich ladies. Remember them.” ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
To Jiang Cheng’s surprise, Chen Yi thought about it seriously. Then, she looked at him and nodded. “Okay.”
Jiang Cheng was stunned and slowly pulled his hand back. Before things got worse, he adjusted his collar.
Light came from the end of the tunnel. Chu Jiu jumped with excitement. “Sister Chen Yi, we’re about to be home!”
The driver stepped on the pedal. The car roared. It sounded more like a racecar than a taxi. Jiang Cheng sighed in relief. Even though the chill was still there, it was a lot weaker. She could only trap them for so long.
“What is your name?” Chen Yi looked at him and asked.
Jiang Cheng shot her a side-eye. “Hao Shuai.”
“Real name?”
“I swear on my parents’ name.” Jiang Cheng raised three fingers.
“Fine.” Chen Yi smiled helplessly. “I’ll call you Hao Shuai. Thank you for saving me.” She looked into his eyes. “You are a good man.” Chen Yi turned to look out the window. “I hope you can survive. If possible, please help save the others.”
Jiang Cheng’s face dropped. The tunnel exit was right before them. With the light, he glanced at the rear-view mirror. The next second, his breathing stopped. The ghost on Chen Yi’s body had fully materialised. There was no pupil in her eyes. The scary thing was that the ghost was stepping on Chen Yi’s shoulders and crawling towards him.
“Mr. Hao.” Chen Yi opened the car door. The wind surged into the car. The rope that held her ponytail was shredded. Her black hair fluttered about like a ruined ink painting.
“You have to live!”
The next second, the taxi blasted out of the darkness. In the backseat, Jiang Cheng’s hand remained hovering in the air.
Under the sun, dust danced about in the car.
