New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 131: A conversation during dinner
Chapter 131: A conversation during dinner
"Dinner’s ready!"
Renaldo and Coco perked up from their game when they heard Jacques scream from the kitchen.
Coco dropped her chess piece and sprung up from her chair, looking at the doorway that leads to the kitchen and to the man in front of her.
"I’ll clean this up." Renaldo assured her and nudged his head towards the door, "You go ahead. I’m sure my wife will be more than willing and happy to serve some food to you."
"No, let’s just hurry and clean this up." Coco crouched down and started separating the black pieces to the white, helping Renaldo clean the mess they made in the wooden center table.
Renaldo placed the pieces on the chess board and closed it before he picked it up, he stood up from his chair and walked over to the shelf, then put it where it was originally placed.
"We’re done cleaning up!" Coco informed Jacques as she walked through the door, a large and excited smile on her face.
"Really?" Jacques returned the excited smile, "Come and take a seat now. I’m sure the two of you are hungry."
"Thank you for having me!" Coco squealed and rushed to the chair that Jacques pointed to, sitting down properly and flinching slightly when Renaldo pushed the chair closer to the table, "Woah, I feel like a customer at a high end restaurant."
Renaldo rolled his eyes. "It’s a simple gesture."
"Oh! Well, okay! Thank you for your service, good sir!" Coco playfully saluted towards Renaldo and had him chuckling under his breath as he took a seat beside his wife.
"You’re welcome, kind ma’am." Renaldo said and lowered his head, returning Coco’s playful antics, which made the two erupt in laughter.
Jacques could only smile and shake her head.
"That’s enough now." She hushed the two of them with a wave of her hand, "Let’s eat. I’m starving."
"Yay! Jacques cooking!" A certain fairy squealed as she hover on Coco’s head and giggle, watching the pink haired woman cut the fried pork with ease and place some on Coco’s plate.
"I could serve my own food." Coco told Jacques with a puff of her cheeks, "I’m not kid, you know?"
"Shush." Jacques gave Coco a pointed stare and continued to put food on Coco’s plate, making sure to balance the food out with the others before placing a bowl of fruit beside Coco’s plate, "Let me do this, okay? You always refuse anyway."
"I don’t refuse free food." Coco blinked.
"But you refuse free services and would always pay us no matter what." Renaldo retorted back with a raised eyebrow as he put food on his own plate.
"Duh!" Coco exclaimed and rolled her eyes, "You two are working for me and I asked you to do things that take effort so I have to pay you for the labor. That’s not payment for the work, it’s kind of a reward."
"Then give us another reward and not money." Jacques sighed out as she put food on her plate, "You give us too much sometimes. You’ll give us money and give us meat, then sometimes, you will give us fruit or vegetables."
"Because you two are my friends." Coco stated as if it was the most simple thing in the world, "I give food to those important to me and some things that I could give to them if I have extra. I just happen to have those whenever I give some to the two of you, you know?"
"This tastes so good!" Lala cried out as she took a bite on Coco’s food.
Since no one can see her, she takes her sweet time to have a taste of everything, but from Coco’s plate— they can’t see her and the attention of the other humans were on Coco, making it easy for her to have a bite of everything.
"I see.." Jacques blinked, but the reluctance is still clear in her voice.
"It’s really okay." Coco smiled at them and picked up her spoon, "Besides, in exchange of those things, the two of you look out for my health. It’s a fair exchange."
"I think it’s normal to look out for your friend’s health when she’s too hard headed to take care of herself, Coco." Renaldo gave her a deadpan expression as he raised a spoon filled with rice.
"Whatever." Coco rolled her eyes at him for the second time and focused on her food.
She was careful to not bump on Lala and let her take her time to chew the food, not wanting for the fairy to choke on it.
She even sliced a small bit of the food she had on her plate and slid it to the side so Lala could take it instead, afraid that the fairy might get caught by her friends.
The dinner went relatively quick with a few conversations here and there, courtesy of Jacques and Renaldo asking questions because they were a curious couple who wanted to know some things in Coco’s life.
When they were done eating, Coco volunteered to wash the dishes and Jacques took it upon herself to dry them while Renaldo put the plates back to the cabinet.
"Teamwork makes the dreamwork, huh?" Coco smiled softly as she watched Renaldo stack the plates on one side and place the bowls they used to the other side, "It’s nice to see a household as peaceful as this one."
"Like husband and wife, right?" Jacques asked, handing the last plate she dried towards her husband.
"Yup." Coco agreed with her popping the letter ’p’ and raising a thumb at Jacques’ way, "I love my house and I love how chaotic it gets, but your household is one of the best out there."
"It’s nice to be complimented by one of the best wives out there, too." Jacques giggled and shook her head, "Guess I should be calling you ’wife’, too? You know? As a joke?"
Coco laughed. "That’s fun! I don’t mind!"
