Chapter 107: Give me the title

".. You made her go where and do what..?" Zaque asked.

When Coco and Heiren arrived at the house, Alhai and Quizen were nowhere to be seen, but Zaque was in the kitchen, grinding something using the mortar and pestle which was large compared to the usual small size ones.

Now, Zaque expected Heiren to come back before lunch because he needs to cook something to eat, but he didn’t expect to see Coco smiling brightly as Heiren invited her in.

He had no choice, but to make Coco take a seat and serve her tea.

He tried to give her a sandwich, but she merely refused his offer gently by taking out the sandwich he made yesterday so he left the tea instead.

Coco was put on the corner with the table before Zaque dragged Heiren to the kitchen so they could have a private conversation while Coco enjoyed her sandwich and tea.

"To Jonathan? The old bunch who were known for their strong desire to get money, doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, as long as they get the job done?" Heiren asked, no, his words didn’t sound like he was asking, it sounded more like he was trying to ring a bell in Zaque’s head.

Thankfully, it did.

Zaque let out a horrified gasp. "You brought her to the scary Jonathan? Are you looking for trouble?! What will you do if he comes back to hunt Coco down?!"

Heiren flinched at the volume of Zaque’s voice, making him raise his hand and cover his ears.

"Relax.. I only asked her to come with me so she could talk to him. I figured that since she has a bad reputation here.. She might intimidate him." The second husband explained, his eyebrows furrowed.

"But she’s not Coco anymore!" Zaque hissed, jabbing a finger on Heiren’s shoulder gently, being careful to not hurt him, but still wanting to drill the truth in his friend’s head.

"Not Coco anymore..?" Heiren murmured under his breath before he shook his head, "You know.. You have been acting weird since you went to trouble our wife on the mountain. What now? Did she do something terrible that makes you want to believe her?"

Zaque sucked in a sharp breath, his hands balling in his sides as he did his best to keep his cool.

While it is true that it is hard to believe that Coco Hughes is not Coco Hughes anymore, they should still think of how much she’s adamant to prove to them that she’s not their deadbeat wife anymore.

She left the house on her own accord because she didn’t want her to impose on their privacy, give them allowances, vegetables, fruits, and meat to cook for breakfast, lunch, and dinner— heck, she even bought them tea, soaps, and essential oils!

Not only that, she also bought them a couple of new clothes

Their deadbeat wife wouldn’t have done that because by the time she married Heiren, she was already changing for the worst known to humans.

What would be the possible logical reason to explain why Coco was doing things that she wouldn’t normally do?

It all comes down to one answer.

"I’m not your wife anymore! I actually woke up with no recollection of all of you whatsoever!"

She already answered the questions lingering in the back of their minds, but they were too blinded with hurt and abuse to actually see and believe the changes happening right before their eyes.

"She didn’t do anything to me out there! In fact, instead of protecting all of her crops, she ran to me and saved me! She wasn’t scared of losing all the possible earnings she would have, but was scared to lose me to that monster!" Zaque hissed quietly under his breath.

He wasn’t lying when he said that Coco was scared to lose him to the monster, but he doesn’t know if it was because he would lose his life or because he was loved— maybe, it was just wishful thinking, but he’s glad that he’s still breathing.

Although, the mediator before him had a different reaction.

Heiren scoffed. "Coco? Afraid to lose you? Lose us? The lowlife mediators? That pulled her down from her so-called ’palace’ in the main city?"

Zaque pursed his lips, not saying anything because he knows that Heiren might be right, but for a different reason.

To Coco, they were just strangers that were tied to her legally when she took over their wife’s body so they could be considered hindrances in her new life if she deemed them to be.

She can even throw them aside for the rest of her life and get new mediators with the money she’s earning.

However, she didn’t do any of that.

Instead, she stayed, took responsibility for the mess that Coco Hughes had left behind, earned money, took care of them, and gave them whatever they may need and want.

What more could they ask for?

Shouldn’t they be thankful that Coco has been nothing, but a patient human being with them?

Zaque sighed deeply and opened his mouth, but was cut off when Coco spoke up, her mouth full of the chocolate sandwich.

"Sorry to cut into your conversation, but I have a very important question to ask and it should be answered as soon as possible!" Coco exclaimed, raising a hand as she took a large gulp from the tea cup.

"This tastes nice by the way, good job, Zaque!" Coco complimented the red haired mediator which made him smile.

"I’m glad you enjoyed it." He replied, nodding his head.

"As much as I am thankful for having you help me." Heiren said, not liking how cozy Zaque looked at Coco and immediately got between them, "After you ask your question, would you please leave?"

"Heiren!"

Coco blinked and nodded her head. "Seems like I overstayed my welcome."

"Coco, you didn’t—"

"Just get on with your question." Heiren cut Zaque off again.

"Give me the title of Alhai’s favorite book."
