Chapter 178 - 178

The Konoha ninja immediately realized they'd been tricked and sprang into action. Hiding was pointless now—shouldn't they just charge out? Otherwise, they'd suffocate to death down there.

So, from the inside, they desperately tried to break down the structure of the fortress, while from the outside, reinforcements kept patching things up. It was like a battle between a demolition crew and a renovation team.

"These guys..." Zixu didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Why the hell did things suddenly turn so ridiculous? This didn't feel right. Shouldn't the final battle be solemn and intense?

"But these guys better not hog all the top spots in the competition. If they do, people will say I rigged it... Whatever, I just hope they don't overdo it and slap too many faces."

Zixu shook his head and called Rosinante over.

That guy had completely evolved into a full-time slacker. He even pretended to play dead like he hadn't heard Zixu, but he still got dragged over.

"What the hell do you want?" Rosinante grumbled. There was nothing worse than getting caught mid-slack.

Zixu gave Rosinante a regretful look. The little black snake he'd raised had grown into a fat serpent—and now it was fishing with Rosinante. These two really made a pair.

"Quit slacking. I need to ask you something. Have you suddenly felt a strange power inside you?" Zixu was starting to suspect that the system he lost might've migrated to Rosinante.

"Nope. You asked, I answered. Can I go slack off now?" Rosinante said flatly, totally shameless.

Zixu stared into his eyes, trying to see through him completely.

But those eyes were dead inside—filled with resentment for work and pure love for slacking.

Zixu couldn't figure him out, but seeing how miserable he looked, he just let him go.

"Maybe it is him... We can't let our guard down. The person who gets the system definitely won't be content just sitting around. Let's see if anything big happens in the ninja world soon." Zixu kept the suspicion in mind, his heart heavier with unease.

"My head's killing me. After this tournament ends, we'll have to team up and wipe out the Akatsuki. Damn space-based abilities... what a pain." Zixu turned his eyes back to the arena.

After the demolition duo of Sasuke and Lee busted through, the giant turtle's rocky platform finally opened up, letting the Konoha ninjas breathe fresh air again. They'd tried using Earth Release to escape from underground, but most of it was steel—they were stuck and had to dig their way out.

Naruto burst out, stretching and shaking out his limbs. In the stands, he spotted Hinata watching him secretly. He flashed a bright, goofy smile her way. He was gonna show off.

Naruto unrolled the massive scroll on his back and closed his eyes. The clone meditating under the waterfall of Mount Myōboku disappeared. The sage chakra returned to the main body, and Naruto's appearance started to shift.

Red eyeshadow appeared around his eyes, which turned to golden horizontal toad-like pupils. He'd entered Myōboku Sennin Mōdo (Sage Mode of Mount Myōboku).

"Sage Mode? Hell yeah, let's go!" Aburame Hatsuizumi stepped out. Her figure shifted as she walked—purple eyeshadow formed, her limbs grew slender and pale, her eyes turned into golden vertical slits, and the ends of her hair lightened. She had activated Ryūchidō Sennin Mōdo (Sage Mode of Ryūchi Cave).

"Myōboku's Sage Mode? Let me see for myself~" Hatsuizumi walked up to Naruto. The air between them pulsed with sage energy—a mutual recognition of natural energy users, and strangely, a sense of hostility between them.

Naruto could sense incredible danger from her. His Sage Mode's sensory warning was flashing like crazy—this girl was even scarier than a tailed beast.

"Rasengan!" Naruto quickly created a clone and charged a spiraling sphere. The clone obeyed and charged straight at Hatsuizumi with the completed Rasengan.

Hatsuizumi formed a single-hand seal. Stone pillars covered in sharp spikes erupted from the ground beneath the clone's feet. Not only were the surfaces rough, but venomous bees also lurked in the cracks.

The clone leapt to avoid the trap, but the bees had already launched. Mid-air and with no escape, the clone was stung and vanished in a puff of smoke.

"No clones. Come at me for real," Hatsuizumi said calmly, still standing still. Everyone else had gone off to fight elsewhere—now it was just Naruto and Hatsuizumi.

"Ryūchidō Sage Mode, huh..." Jiraiya, watching from afar, seemed lost in memory. Orochimaru's departing figure flashed in his mind. He sighed and looked back to the battlefield.

"They've both achieved perfect Sage Mode. This new generation is something else."

Naruto stepped up in his real body, charging like a wild cat and aiming a clean punch at Hatsuizumi's stomach.

She could've dodged it easily—but as she moved, something around her resisted. An invisible force, a barrier of natural energy, hindered her motion.

"Ah, right—natural energy." Hatsuizumi chuckled, then took the punch head-on.

"Puchi—" Naruto's punch landed... and he immediately regretted it.

"Ow—damn! What the hell is that?!" Naruto shook his hand. The impact felt like punching an iron plate—his whole arm went numb.

Hatsuizumi didn't give him time to react. Natural energy users returned favors. And she was about to.

Tiny bugs—barely visible without focus—floated around Hatsuizumi. In Sage Mode, Naruto couldn't sense her at all. It was like she wasn't even there.

Then, a swarm of larger insects burst out. They spun midair and formed a small square formation in front of her.

Up in the stands, Mei Terumi, who had been chatting with Chiyo about marriage politics, suddenly stood up. Not because of Naruto—but because the insects Hatsuizumi released looked way too familiar.

"Wait a second... why do those bugs... look just like the Three-Tails?" she said, bewildered.

Wasn't the Three-Tails chilling somewhere outside her village?

"Maybe they just look alike. That little girl seems to like pranks, hehe..." Chiyo chuckled, trying to calm her.

But on the battlefield, Hatsuizumi didn't care what anyone thought. One of her bugs— Sanbi—gathered chakra in its mouth. A small black-and-blue sphere began to form.

Mei Terumi: "That's... is that a Tailed Beast Bomb imitation?"

Chiyo: "..."
